I studied in kyrgyzstan for 6 years, the country is poorer than India and even Pakistan, but India is nothing in front of Kyrgyzstan when it comes to hygiene, cleanliness, woman safety, respect to the elders, discipline, traffic, clear sky, fresh air, weather, mannerisms, social awareness, mental peace and a lot of things. Neatness and cleanliness is not a function of how rich or poor you are but that of mentality and principle.

In India, privately owned properties like houses, inside parts, lawns of Big marriage halls, factories, Hotels etc are clean. Clearly proves that public places owned by Govt are poorly managed. But the Leaders who are responsible blame it on population and the people just accept it

As an Indian expat in Australia, I can say that the major reason for me leaving India is the lack of civic sense and mutual respect amongst the people there. Everyday somebody out there is phishing for you. It’s almost like a battle against zombies where everyone is trying to get you, trying to drag you down in one way or the other. There is little to no mental peace no matter where you live and how much money you make. It was never about earning in dollars or euros but about the mental peace because in the end that’s what everything boils down to.

I can’t say the same for other people here. I do not wish to look down on India or our people because I am full Indian in the end, but how would we ever address this issue? I agree with your comment. The one main thing of living in some of these western countries is privacy and mental peace. But, that is also changing - with ao many Indians now coming to these western countries they are bringing the same bad attitudes and habits here as well so, this part of the world will also change and become as bad as India in a few years.

The real development begins in the minds of the people. No matter how many bridges, bullet trains and skyscrapers you build, if people are going to drive like maniacs and don't think pedestrians exist, spit while driving and riding, light up fireworks that enter houses during Diwali, and dump trash in rivers, the true progress remains elusive. Sustainable development requires a shift in mindset, a collective awakening that goes beyond the physical structures and embraces a cultural evolution. Until that happens, I am never looking back.

It’s all well and good you understand the direction the country should head towards. But you hold yourself to a very low standard if you think this happens overnight, year or even 10years. What India needs from its NRIs is an entrepreneurial spirit, a lot of strength, resilience and cunning. It’s a bit too much to ask and it may make it sound like un recognised freedom fighters but that’s what it needs for radical change. Change happens over Generations so at least educate your kids properly

The same people who throw garbage in a railway station platform would not do the same on the metro platform. It's also a function of the environment. If the railway cleans up its premises, provides adequate bins for disposal, behaviour can be changed easily. Mindset is not rigid. I agree we lack discipline, but it's not the same everywhere, and you will be surprised how fast people adapt.

I have a house in a village(panchayat) area which is located at a 30 minutes distance from the city where I live. I went to my house to live for about 10 months as an experiment to see how it really feels to stay in a village area and there, I got to know what the real India looks like. I didn't realize the issues while I was staying in my city. All those corruptions, theft have changed the perception of whole India in my book. Another thing I noticed living there is that there is no drainage facility, bad electricity service where there is daily power cut for two - eight hours, no drinking water supply. I had to buy 20 litres drinking water bottles daily which was a pain. I never had such problems living in the city of joy. It seems people living in villages have no idea what facilities they should get from our govt. Sad, indeed. I just could not live there any longer so I returned to the city after 10 months of physical and mental torture. I do go there for from time to time but avoid staying there at night and do not interact much with the locals. It was a hell not because of the lack of facilities but because of the political goons asking for money at every single time I breathe for absurd reasons. Disgusting as f***. No wonder people are leaving the country. 😠

WB is not truly a great place to live. However I have been to MP hinterlands and it is not the same. Many aspects are digitized and thereby removing chances of corruption. However it is also the responsibility of the people to protest and raise their voices and fight corruption. Think about it this way, if Subhashchandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Patel and many many more had decided to leave India for other countries due to poverty (which was way more then) would India have been free of colonial rule? Also population of India is its peak and hence this acute competition and congestion. India is going to be the only few countries reporting positive GDP and growth.

Which village you were living in that there were political goons? No proper electricity and no clean water? Drainage system is actually issue in many villages. But electricity is there everywhere, people in villages have handpump and electric water pump motor connected to well or underground. So water supply like cities are not required there. In cleanliness I found villages much more clean than cities. But there is no waste management system, no proper place to dump garbage. There are many issues that needs to solved but govt. focusses least on villages.

1) Access to good quality Air, water is not there. Extreme Air pollution, water is also polluted, even the water cans delivered to our houses are sometimes not from proper souce. Extreme Noise pollution, people need some sort of silence for peace. But we know that our cities are on the top 10 cities for noise pollution in the world. I can keep listing various sources of noise pollution. 2) Spitting, Urinating & Shitting in public places, almost every where, no place to walk even on the broken side walks, due to that much Filth and dirt. 3) Even for basic RTO activity like getting a license needs some amount of bribe. I am not asking for every road to be perfectly laid out. But at the least when they are laying new roads they can design it properly taking into account various factors like pedestrian side walks, proper aligned planting of trees on the side walks instead of abrupt placement, proper parking for 2 wheelers, sign board, lanes, markings. But that is not the case, when they lay new roads again, same mistakes, over night they do a shabby work, I have seen roads laid leaving the road portion where roadside cars are parked. 4) Cows, cats, dogs are every where on the streets and center of the roads, no corporation cares. Lot of kids, elders were bitten in our area, yet no one cares. Lot of accidents in the road due to cows, no one cares. In the night, they all start their parties barking heavily cats/dogs with extremely loud noises which disturbs sleep/peace. There must be some sort of method to atleast control(Spay) their population increase. All these animals also shit/urinate in open roads in the cities making it extremely difficult to walk past them due to foul stink. 5) Even if we try to use side walks, they are always in broken state, with drainge overflowing into the roads, wires dangling from the electricty poles, man holes uncovered, 2 wheelers parked abruptly, Flower shop, tea shop, cloth iron shop, some Auto walas having tea & chit chat & spitting, trash overflowing from dumpster everywhere. 6) Some small temple built on the side walk in every street where Loud speakers are run 3 times a day on high volumes. It is ok to have music during festival days, but every day it's a noise pollution. People visiting temples overflow to the middle of the road blocking the entire traffic. Many many things to add on to the list. I am not asking for big buildings and beautiful roads. But atleast keep the city clean and accessible clean basic resources like Air & water.

Well, I will present a peculiar complaint of mine. I deliberately did not leave country while most of my cousins did. Not that I am a patriot but just did not have any special interest in any other country. I got my PhD recently from IIT Delhi and started a job at Vadodara. I must say that I am very sensitive to sound; I can't sleep with any unusual ambient noise. I am surprised at the loud speaker culture here at Vadodara, people just randomly start loud music for every minor occasion or pooja and don't stop till midnight, without bearing in mind the noise pollution they are forcing on others. I called local police station once at 10:30 PM and complained about local noise. Unsurprisingly, they asked me to come to police station and lodge a formal complaint with all my details. I am slowly getting frustrated with such noise at nights and days. So, my only appeal to leave country would be a serene surrounding.😅

My friends and cousins who are doing well for themselves couldn't stop talking about how great India is doing and how everything is just going so well... It was all about India's growth story. Somehow, they just don't seem to notice the poverty around them. Some of them have 2-3 servants working for them for 10-15k rupees a month. They complained to me about racism in US / Canada and somehow they don't realize how racist they themselves are to poor people! Everyone I talked to was trying to convince me that life is better in India and that I should move back. I am conservative and a capitalist myself and hate the left here in Canada but I cannot even imagine a life where I would have 3 people serving me 24/7.

Bro forget about conversion rate. The RBI has the worst governor since decades. I can't even believe why he is soo keen on decreasing the value of rupee against the dollar. That idiot has been saying that it will increase exports. He has been saying this when the a dollar fell to 74 INR. The government is not realizing that it will be good in the short term for exports but will be disastrous in the long run. People are just considering that they pay income tax but forget they are paying indirect taxes too. Basically everything you purchase comes with a basic tax (GST@18%). The government has become a blood sucking capitalist for the middle income society. They should at least decrease the indirect taxes. In western countries they have high income tax for the rich but very less indirect tax which makes living affordable considering their pay.

I left India 30 Years ago, there were many reasons. 1. In mid 80's VP. Singhs reservation system obliterated the chance of employment. I was a teacher and another was allotted to the same post, though he had failed in the previous years. (some may disagree with this it is fine). 2. Technology, only in the last decade have we seen the technology change; even in the early 2000's Bangalore was filled with call centers (BPOs). No innovation, the college I studied at uses the same old syllabus with minor updates. 3. Though corruption exists, it is not only rampant. How many of them work ethically? (i.e When the Bank mentions 9-5, it is at 9 AM they serve the customer not opening the door at 9 AM). I have worked in most private companies, we are always ahead 10 minutes to warm up and stretch before we begin work (sometimes handover). 4. Many citizens though they earn more, have fake certificates to reduce their contribution to society. With the advent of e-pay systems, Hope IT is going to be efficient in claiming tax from the citizens. 5. Freebie culture, many states' adoption of freebie culture has decimated the economies of their respective states. 6. How many government employees do children study in government schools? They know, the quality of the teachers, you need brilliant teachers to produce brilliant minds. Not all can become exceptional. There are few schools in Bangalore, where even teachers' vehicles occupy the pavements (footpaths which are meant for public walking). Education is different from knowledge, we are only pumping out students who are educated not with Knowledge. (This may have changed since my last visit).

Your country can’t provide a single girl to me for marrying. I better marry with other country girl. Your country does not provide reservation. They have good cars, safety, healthcare, clean air, no Gunda Gardi from local netas. Nobody snatches your passport there anymore. Please Don't seek a passport, always seek a good lifestyle with enough money. It's extremely hard to say but you must forget your parents' coz they'll never let go beyond your limits. I Barely talk to family anymore. A false sense of achievement and overhyped nationalism has downgraded our ability to think. Typical Indian mindset is what kept India where it is today. Reaching the moon and still not able to pick up the rubbish of your capital (Delhi) is an absurdity, forget about the air quality. Bank doesn't shutdown suddenly, House possession doesn't take years, slow lame courts/judiciary, third class policing and corrupt bureaucracy make things worse. And nobody talks about our Great Leader anywhere in fact they most of them see him as bigoted. People still see India as a dirty country, all thanks to the food bloggers who exposed Indian street food on KZbin/Insta.

However, nowadays, wherever I go, from small towns to cities, I notice a significant increase in the Indian population. More and more Indians are opting to leave India due to intense competition in various aspects of life, limited job opportunities, pollution, corruption, high living costs, expensive education, lack of work-life balance, and costly healthcare, among other challenges. This perception is based on conversations with recently arrived Indians abroad.

How is it possible that in just 2.5 years, 28 lakh Indians have gone to US with Work VISAs? Because each year, at max there are about 120,000 work visas given out on lottery basis where around 8 lakh people apply. In 2.5 years, you don't even have 28 lakh applicants in the first place, let alone that many work visas. At max, in 2.5 years, 300,000 Indians can go with Work VISAs.

Very clinical analysis - I am from the Medical field - and have seen all of these topics in different contexts, but the core of the issues is the same - for instance, take - kickback practice and radiology - It is rampant in India - doctors complain about it - but also involved in it and everybody knows that - it is not going to change much in the near future. The one point I need to add here is Culture - and mindsets - (not just work - but also family traditions and day-to-day life expectations on human behavior - they need to be addressed, too, I believe mine was more of a cultural migration).
