When you want to see the aproximative value of a set, all you have to do is to divide the number of pieces and divide it with 10. And, if it's from a licensed theme, you should add 10 dollars more. The main problem where I see it being too expensive is the types of pieces. For example, the new General Grievous set is 80 dollars and its only 400 pieces, and ITS BIG PIECES. When most of a set is made of large pieces, it should be cheaper, if it is a lot of smaller, detail pieces I could understand but, Grievous's ship is literally made of 5 major size pieces with some smaller details. I can buy an entire building set with 3 floors, furnishings, figures, and plenty of outside details for the architecture for the same price as 1 space ship. I think they are taking advantage of demand, perhaps that is disney's doing but, hard to tell.

For Canada, the Canada vs US Dollar has been roughly the same. The problem is that the markup between Canada and USD price has increased. Before a $50 USD set will be $60 CAD. Not it is $70 CAD. A $80 USD set will be $100 CAD. Now it is $110 CAD. Lego mos eisley. The biggest example is 75222 and 75290. Both are $350 USD but in Canada $400 CAD vs $450 CAD. Also lego has gradually increased pricess for similiar size sets. The 2020 poe x wing got increased $10. I don't think pieces are an accurate way to describe size. The box is probably the best defining one. Knights of Ren Transport and General Grievous Starfighters have really small boxes for their price.
@pian-0g4454 жыл бұрын
It really comes down to 1. Newer specialised pieces costing more than an average brick or plate, which they’ve obviously been increasing in use, especially technic in system sets. Also, technology as they are also ‘evolving’ Lego pieces with more frequent uses of dual moulded pieces for their best selling series like the Super Heroes theme and Ninjago, and soon, Monkie Kid. 2. Licensing as he said at the end. There’s a reason series like City and Ninjago have much better deals, as there’s no licensing fees, which obviously Disney is making high, but Lego continues to pay for it as they’re obviously still getting good profit from it and also attention, as someone who might nippy really play or buy Lego might look at a set (like the razor crest) and buy it. 3. Oil prices. Pretty simple if you understand what’s going on with oil, or fossil fuels as a whole. 4. Marketing team... they know a lot of people are gonna buy it anyways even if overpriced, no doubt about that. No matter how you look at it now, Lego is a more, how to put, premium toy product. Obviously not the level of premium of apple, but the name Lego itself, shows quality, maybe not in the build, but the pieces. They know if someone wants a quality gift, this will be on the list. I mean it’s bliming Lego.

I just go online and buy mini figures for sale because that’s the coolest part to me personally. Then when a really cool set catches my eye I’ll buy it because I rarely buy sets anyways. It’s just the way you look at it. I’m more into collecting the rare stuff and mini figures only. And I think that’s the best way to spend your money. No need to buy the entire set when you can just buy the mini figures. I just buy well sized display sets. I had to get the comic con exclusive 40 year anniversary Luke vs Vader because it was $75 on eBay the day after it came out. Now it’s worth around $140 or something. You just gotta be watching and pay attention. You can honestly make money with lego if you’re smart.

I want to get the LEGO Rebel X-Wing but it is way too expensive. I remember I recently got the Resistance Y-Wing and that thing was not worth the $60 it asked for. At most that was a $30-$40 set. The abilities of the ship are small in number as well as generic, the figures aren’t very rare, and it isn’t as good to look at as previous Y-Wings. I also got the advent calendar and none of those figures or mini-sets are worth the prices they are asking for on Amazon and Target. The lowest I could find was $30 from Walmart. The only set this year that I think was worthy of being as expensive as it was is The Razor Crest. There is no wasted space and the entire ship is accessible. Not to mention the figures are very good quality (despite Mando not having his Beskar armor but that’s a small detail).

Everything with grievous is jacked up to Luke $.20 a piece. Look at the one with Mace Windu and the new one with Obi-Wan. Horrible prices

This is a very intelligent video that took into account the facts, despite the feeling of the more expensive sets. If only US news could do the same :(

Let's not forget that the same applies to all of the licensed themes LEGO has acquired over the years

I think its very unfair to use price per piece as the main metric on the value of a set. The reason why price per piece had gotten so low is because legos design team values small gribble detailing and strutural integrity into their sets much more than they did even 10 years ago. This means that even though the set may be 1000 pieces for $100 It would now be equivelent in size to maybe around a $60 dollar set from 2009 because they originally mainly focused on getting the look of the set just by getting the general shape down and didnt care as much about small details and structure. Which means a lot of tiny pieces usually wasnt included. Its difficult to analyze this as size for money cant really be calculated the same way as price per piece but its much more than just nostalgia goggles on why lego is getting more expensive.

Off topic from starwars Lego City sets on lego.com are 150$+ each That is madly ridiculous, also, fin isn’t that great to overprice him, he’s probably iverpriced rn because he’s from the latest starwars movie and because he’s related to the latest & one of the highest paid movie, its gonna be expensive. Its a high cash out on something they’re available to
