I remember watching btn in primary school, this just randomly came up on my KZbin and wow. So relatable, and so important! Literally like, so important to be making videos like this, god knows I could’ve used it a few years ago…

Three important factors to really understand behind the statistic. One, is an increase in young people identifying as gay or bisexual actually correlated to an increase in the number of young people engaged in homosexual relationships? Two, it's completely expected that there would be an increase in the number of young people identifying as LGBTQIA+ by simple virtue of the fact that that acronym has grown from initially being LGB, then LGBT, then LGBTQ, etc. It would be completely unexpected if the number stayed the same. Thirdly, there is a big difference in how people come to identify as gay as opposed to trans. Identifying as gay or bi depends on where one's physical attractions lie whereas identifying as a gender one wasn't born as is a far more complex proposition. It depends greatly on what an individual believes is the difference between men and women. Asking how or why someone identifies as trans or non-binary cannot be answered as simply as what the crux of the matter is in sexual orientation: to whom are you attracted? Thus, it is completely expected that there would be an increase in LGBTQIA+ identification because it includes identities that come from both objective and subjective measures.

Yeah. Especially if they're in high school. You can always tell if someone never grew up from high school.

I live in a rural area in Australia (not remote, about half an hour away from a city by car), and I don't really feel safe being totally out. I'm out to most of my friends and teachers, but I don't know if being completely out is a good idea yet. Maybe someday when I leave the rural dump for a better life (i.e. in the city), I'll feel better about being totally out. Edit: Shows like Heartstopper have helped me come to terms with my sexuality. So happy I found it

primary school teachers who show this to the class need to be investigated lol. it's totally okay to explore our sexualities but this type of media should stay away from young and developing kids.

I do agree although it does say “BTN High” indicating it’s for high school, and the reports look mostly into people aged 16, 18, and 20s. Anything below that was only mentioned once and it was only with people who are usually at the age they make those realisations.
