CO2 is heavier than O2 and makes an effective blanket on the surface where gas exchange should take place,and redisolves in the water column. Use a fan to blow away stagnant CO2. Your ph and O2 levels will rise as well.

Also having a lot of live plants in the aquarium can help as they absorb the carbon dioxide and release more oxygen into the water.

its also in the nature of guppys to swim at the surface to be first for food, sometimes its just normal behaviour. i can quickly tell apart guppy babies from other livebearers because they swim at the surface

i have a planted aquariaum and a air/bubble bomb ( conected to a vulcan) i see not all of them but 1 or 2 in the surface (i have a good ammount of surfice plants). And i have a guppy male in the bottom allways laying there and only swim to eat, i put him in a quarantine aquariaum and see if he gets better, his colors look good but he allways laying in the bottom (white guppy with orange tail)

I have a sponge filter that, including the straw at the top, is probably too tall for the tank I have. I've rigged it so that the air pump's flow is split between the filter and another air stone, and some of my new fish have started exploring the floor! Not the most elegant solution, but it'll do for now :)

I have almost all live plants like guppy grass and some others (I have a few fake ones also) and my filter creates surface movement and bubbles underneath the surface. I don’t think my guppies are gasping but it’s kinda hard to tell sometimes because being at the surface is usually normal guppy behavior. Do u think they’ll be ok??

I need help!! I have a guppie and one african drawf frog. Had 2 guppies, but now one died. My 5 gallon tank has done the cycle for about a month before adding fish and added quick start for added bacteria, the frog is doing great, but my fish not so much. Constantly swimming at top. I've watched your video, and added an air stone, ammonia levels are good (I have the api tester kit) have done a water change, water is conditioned tap water and temp is at 75, and still no change in behavior. I have a few fake plants and ornaments in there and ample circulation. I don't know what to do. The little guy is probably not gonna make it. Maybe its just a crappy filtration system on my tank (pondon). No clue, any help would be appreciated!!

In my experience, plants that are submerged will release more oxygen into the water than plants that are floating on the surface 👍🏻

Goppy goes to top of water after eating for about an hour like hes gasping for air, but the water is good. Why is he only doing it after he eats for about an hour? After that, it's normal back in bottom of the tank and in the middle. Like a nice, healthy Fish.

But why only guppies? I have 600 liter per hour falling from 10 cm away of water surface constantly. I have neon tetras rummy nose otocinclus goramies but only guppies. All the rest of fish are in the middle but mostly near the bottom of the tank.

Mine are new too, I have 2 oxygen stones one at each end. I think they are scared of the other community fish. My neons are good swimming all around. One female larger guppy is comfortable across the tank. The smaller guppies are getting attention from my angel fish who are not so friendly. I think they are attracted to their tails. I do water changes once a week. I also test. At night I place the guppies in a small breeder tank in the main aquarium tank just so they are safe from predatory behaviour.

Got guppies at top of tank near the bubbles forming from the sponge filter. But weird thing is nitrates/nitrite levels are great and no ammonia. Also have sponge filter, air stone in a bubbler decor a few plants and a hob filter. So should be plenty of oxygen. Can’t figure out what’s going on.
