Hello! Did you know I recently released a 97-page book titled The Neocaridina Shrimp Handbook? It covers everything new and experienced hobbyists alike need to know about Neocaridina Shrimp, including Red Cherry Shrimp. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Check it out here 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 fishkeepinganswers.com/neocaridina_shrimp_handbook/

Just how it is with them sometimes. I've had super high grade ones and sometimes pure black or brown. It's kinda fun

A agree! You gotta love Cherry Shrimp 🦐

Many of my females yellow shrimps turn green or even brown when they become berried but then go back to yellow after releasing the babies.
@FishKeepingAnswers2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing them it’s tricky, but shrimp eggs can be gold, brown or green so maybe the eggs are affecting the shrimps color. Yellow shrimp tend to be more translucent than reds. Glad to hear they are reproducing though. Always a good sign 👍🏻🦐

@@FishKeepingAnswers I've been keeping shrimp for over 15 years now. I think it's genetic. I put some of the females that remained yellow with some of the brightest yellow males in a tank and none of their offspring turned green again. I still think it's weird though.
@FishKeepingAnswers2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s not one I’ve come across before. I have a number of red females that always carry bright green eggs, but I’ve never seen it with my yellows. 🤷🏻♂️

I have a bright colony of orange cherries in one of my 5 gallon aquariums. I'm also breeding cories, so I added a few into the breeding tank. The male quickly became a super pale colour. Substrate colour & gender play huge roles in shrimp colour imo. A white substrate will make shrimp (males especially) colour suuper faded.

I could not agree more 👍🏻🦐

I just wanted something to watch while drinking my cup of tea. 😊 But I wonder more about the yellow neos. I'm having a hard time figuring out if I need to cull males because they look almost completely transparent. I can't tell if they've reverted to wild, maybe crossbred with red so I got a higher percentage of wild/ reverts? That would be an awesome video, maybe go over how males are generally much more transparent and how/ when to cull in breeding colonies? Or how to pick the best males to keep on the red, yellow, blue males when starting a colony? Hope you have a wonderful day!! ✌️😊

i bought some shrimp off a guy and when i picked them up he told me they change color based on the substrate too. he said if you have white sand they become more pale. if i have black sand the colors become darker. i thought thats prety cool

It’s amazing how creatures so small have adapted to survive! All the best with your shrimp 🦐

@@FishKeepingAnswers it really is, i still have so much to learn on them. thanks soo much! i noticed one of them is carrying eggs too so ill have babies sooner than i know!

Hey! quick questions, I also made the mistake of putting sand in the tank as substrate which caused all of them to come out in pale colors. So if I change the substrate now, will the color of the shrimp change?

In my tanks, reds, blues, and blacks breed the best. But I have had no success with yellows. I can't figure it out. The other colors survive for far linger, with reds and blues being 4th-5generation, and blacks being 3rd. I also have amino as well.
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
It’s good you are having success with the other colours. Is it possible the yellows are all female?

I am so happy that my RCS are bright red after week or two after I bought them. I have sand substrate but black background and lots hiding places beacause of so many plants. They rarely get down on the bottom as it's always busy with bottom dwellers. Aslo One Question for you: Three of my big females passed away 2 days ago after releasing the babies, all other shrimps seems to be fine and thriving, don't know why.
@FishKeepingAnswers2 жыл бұрын
I am pleased to hear your RCS are doing well and showing bright colors. I am not sure why 3 would pass away and the others would be fine. Typically, carrying the eggs does not take a toll on the females. It is not like a guppy giving birth do dozens of live babies, which can lead to the female passing away after birthing. You said the females were all large. It is possible that they were just old. The main thing is, the rest of the shrimp appear to be doing well. Hopefully your colony will quickly All the best, Richard

@@shubhamdandekar20 Berried females are more prone to stress. A water change or other factors will likely kill them due to stress. This happened to me also recently, where all my shrimp were fine except my berried females.
@shubhamdandekar202 жыл бұрын
@@GoGogleUser okay, so that's definitely not the case with me cuz I didn't do any water change before they die.

Why would you suggest paying the top dollar price for buffering substrate when neos dont need it? Im not trying to be an ass, just curious what your logic is.
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
Buffering substrate? Was it Fluval Stratum in this video? Fluval Stratum won’t buffer your water. It’s just balls of volcanic soil 👍🏻
@MimicNature Жыл бұрын
@FishKeepingAnswers according to fluval it "helps maintain a neutral to acidic pH". Is that not buffering?

I was wondering if their colour declines after generations, within the same colony. I started with 12 and now I have about 100 and I am noticing more colour decline in the newer babies. My red cherry’s seem to be losing their colour through generations, I have 4 in a new shrimp only tank, to start a second colony, they have been in there since they were very young, and 4 months later they have hit maturity in size and behaviour. 2 are bigger and very red, and I assume are female, one has the obvious gold saddle, the other doesn’t. The two smaller ones are racing around the tank for the first time today, I assume they are both male and dancing to encourage mating, but they have almost no colour at all. There are plenty of plants and hiding spots, the water quality is great and been constantly stable, but I have a bare bottom tank so I can reduce the number of seed shrimp, which is working very well. There is a lot of java moss, cholla wood, drift wood with anubias attached and a terracotta pot with two rooted plants in it, with fluval stratum.

Nitrates are not the final step in the nitrogen cycle if you have a filter and filter medium that can enable anaerobic bacteria to grow.
@FishKeepingAnswers2 жыл бұрын
That is very true, but there are very hobbyists that use filters that contain deep sand beds or other methods of creating anaerobic zones for the right strains of bacteria to grow. For 99.9% of hobbyists, live plants and/or water changes are by far the best way to reduce nitrate levels in the aquarium.
