I was absolutely scared to death of Tex from the THX trailers as a kid. The sounds he and his jet pack make when he flies up or crashes down to the foreground of the screen were so unsettling, and they gave me the impression that he wanted to hurt me. Also, the fact that he didn’t have eyes or a visible mouth, and was red and silver also scared me. I always had nightmares growing up where he’d bust into my room in a cloud of smoke, walk up to me in my bed and drill into my chest with his sharp claw hands. I stopped watching every Pixar film with the Tex or Moo Can logos because I didn’t want to be startled by him. I honestly prefer Tex’s 2006 redesign to the original one that John Lasseter created in the 90s because he looks and moves in a more humanistic manner (which adds a nice touch because it implies that he’s advancing alongside THX’s sound technology), and especially because he has regular hands instead of big metal claws. He’s so cute in the trailer he and Bob are in, even if its animation looks a bit cheaper.

Woah! He drilled in to your *chest?!* I always thought he made the logos less scary, not even more!

Honestly I really like the cheap logos and synthesisers, they're absurd in a way and I love weird stuff. I liked the THX logo with Tex, it was a little unsettling with the cow moos being kinda warped but I liked it, especially with the logo breaking down and Tex having to fix it being quite funny to me (even if I didn't laugh lol) What really got me was the Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo from the 2000s, with the space background (I particularly remember black space not blue) and the loud choir. I was already kinda scared of Bear in the Big Blue House, I think I had nightmares with the logo and Bear and the Big Blue House in general and the logo was kinda apart of it. Still loved the show though and watched it kinda frequently. What scared me when I was older was the MTM Entertainment logo made for the end of the final episode of "St Elsewhere" which is already kinda melancholy but you see the cat mascot hooked up to life support and at the end you hear a distorted (thanks to analogue) high-pitched flat-line, all in this black background of course. Synthesiser credit music (I know I said I like it but here it's kinda creepy) plus just looking at the ending to the episode the ending is really sad too. It seemed to be a tribute to the real cat too, quite sick they could have just had the RIP text at the end.

Just gonna be real, I’ve never had ANY really big fear of logos, except for maybe a couple of instances. However, I’ve never been scared of V of Doom, S from Hell, THX or any other logo that scared most folks like those. Great video btw.

So the old DirectLine phone and mouse combined with the horns and clicking noises used to scare you? Interesting. I personally have always been a fan of it, and especially now since it brings a huge feeling of nostalgia my way every time I see it.

Yep, that's the one. I can still remember 8-year-old me being relieved when they stopped using it in 2012. Nowadays, it's nostalgic for me too, even if I still get ever-so-slightly uncomfortable listening to it.

@@ALTV31 One thing that always horrified me as a child was the 2000 Ragdoll logo, the one where the face is drawn on a yellow background whilst horrific ear bleeding whistle noises played. It is honestly still pretty freaky to me all told.

I think the S from Hell was feared back then at least in part due to Moog synthesizers being relatively new and people back then being rather unfamiliar with the sounds that vaguely sound like orchestral instruments but don’t at the same time

I think the S looking like an eye doesn't help really May be my perception though

Growing up i was the same with THX tex. Not moo can. Tex himself didnt scare me, it was the deep note jumpscare and how sudden it started again combined with the uncanny animation. Moo can's cows didnt startle me and i more was confused

I was afraid of the main logos used by PBS, in the US, from 1984-1998. The PBS Kids logos never scared me though.

That whole logos being mad, kinda is interesting. I've always not been scared of THX, but I mean doesn't the letters kinda look a bit done with everything? It has that Garfield face. Same with Viacom, not been scared by them but when looking at them they looks almost irritated. And yeah I was scared by a logo as a kid. Still scared by it. Feel free to guess.

The only logo I watched as a kid that I was “scared” of was Paramount’s Feature Presentation bumper from the early 00s. Fuck that logo and the ppl who made it. I remember being freaked out by the music and the cold and dark looking atmosphere of the logo.

There was a cinema advertising logo I guess I could say startled me as a kid, in Australia our cinema ads are done by Val Morgan, They had a few different logos during my childhood, but their logo from 2014-2019 genuinely scared me off going to the cinema, to the point where I'd pretend to go to the toilet and instead just wait in the stall looking at my watch, waiting until at least 5 minutes after showtime to walk in. Their "Creepy Blue Eye" logo had all the things that would startle a young autistic child like I was back then, Loud noises and creepy visuals. It was these blue speckles and shards that would form an eye before wiping away with the text "Deeper Engagement", then it would form a blue mouth which would exhale, and the "ah" was so bloody loud it would just startle me, it would wipe away to form "Highly Effective", Then it would form another eye for some reason before zooming through it as it forms "cinema advertising delivers results" before forming the logo "ValMorgan Pre Show". This ident would play after the local business ads would finish (without warning or any sort of local advertising outro), around 5 minutes into the previews, it was only an intro, there never was or has been an outro at least. But that was the one that got me as a kid. They use a much better ident nowadays. Also for a while, at Hoyts cinemas, the lights would stay on, there was no music before the show and the screen would literally turn on and play the ads without warning, that was quite unnerving too. Anyways, that's my story I guess.

Weird mention but I used to be scared of certain logo variations from around the late-2000’s/early-2010’s where the main person shown in the logo gets hurt in some way, like for example the DreamWorks boy on the moon in the logos for Bee Movie, Madagascar 2, and Monsters vs. Aliens, as well as the Columbia torch lady in the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania logos. Seeing a beloved logo suddenly scream out of nowhere just kinda terrified the shit out of me and for the most part I was scared out of watching animated movies in theaters during that trend, besides Disney and Illumination. Now I just think they’re neat variations that I still have slight trauma over.
