After 3 months away from the boat to reset my Schengen clock, I return to Portugal to start preparing my boat to sail into the Mediterranean. Join my as a have engine issues as usual and get a visit from my favourite crew member !

Another brilliant engine fix Ali. I would recommend "bleeding" the fuel system using the primer pump at least once a month, it just takes a few minutes with basic tools and should prevent any air pockets building up over time. If you do notice that air is getting in each month you may want to start replacing any dodgy looking hoses and even getting the main tank "pressure tested" to make sure that it is airtight (you can even do this yourself with a simple bicycle pump !!).

Great to see you back on board and Caroline too, you are both very entertaining. We have the same engine and have recently changed the alternator. I was shocked how thin the positive wire to the starter motor and the negative wire to the engine block was. Replaced both with 25mm so the alternator can supply full power. Saw an increase from 43A to 55A, though some of this may be down to cleaning up the 34yr old connections too. If you have an hour or two well worth the effort .

great videos. For someone looking at getting a boat, do you suggest trying to get one with an outboard engine rather than a sterndrive?

It all depends on what you want it for? Is it just for weekend cruising ?

@@thenomadsailor2165 it would be much smaller than yours. I’m looking at 14ft to 18ft range. But yes it would be used for basic weekend cruising probably around the essex coastline, maybe looking to take to south coast during the summer.

@@umesh1548 Ahh that’s awesome ! I think personally for that size boat an outboard would be a lot easier to manage and maintain, there’s a channel called “Alex Goes Sailing” who has boat that’s in that size range and has an outboard I recommend checking him out!
