My 16 year old son has stage 4 cancer. He is having to sit his exams at the moment. The school has been very supportive but not the same can be said about the exams boards or the education department. We have had to get our local MP involved. The secretary of State of education couldn’t even be bothered to respond to him. Now the election has stopped our mp from helping. I wrote to the pm and got back the pm doesn’t deal with these matters. The system is broken education, NHS, defence, the country.

@@marlene56423 no he was a fit & healthy lad. He played rugby went the gym. He developed a cough in January. After a couple of weeks we took him to the GP we were told it’s a virus. The cough changed we took him back and again told it was a virus. We took him back to the GP because he wasn’t getting better but worse and again told it was a virus. He’s was sent home from school because he was being sick after coughing couldn’t get him at the doctors so went to A&E this march which was when all the tests started. We sent home and we had to return for X-rays 8th April. We then called back into hospital on 11th April for more scans and tests which was when we were told that they think he has cancer and he was being transferred to alder hey children’s hospital.

It is strange that the current generation of people in their forties who are affected by this were also among the first to be educated since school age about the dangers of smoking and are on average less likely to have smoked as much tobacco as their parents generation but are now potentially more likely to get cancer?! As someone who was always taught that smoking was the number one cause of cancer I would have thought that less smokers would lead to less cancer diagnosis?!

It's only one type of cancer and no doubt there are many other factors apart from smoking. We do know for a fact that being overweight increases your risk of developing certain cancers. It's also true that in the last 20 + years or so we have seen a huge increase in ultra processed foods, although I couldn't begin to tell you how much of an effect that has had, if any. As for all the comments in respect of the vaccine. Cancer rates amongst younger people have been on the increase for the last 30 years, long before the so called 'untested' vaccine was developed. As the medics always state: correlation is not causation.

As for the cancer vaccine, I did a paper on using immunotherapy for cancer in college in 1973. It was based on published studies I found in our science library. Some used the BCG vaccine, but I will never forget the study out of Canada that used the patients' own lung tumors to make a vaccine. It worked in 1973. Now it's 'new research'. If they wanted to cure cancer, they would.

Chris Knobbe makes a very good case for it being caused by seed oils. This young generation buy a lot of takeaway, or restaurant food which almost invariably uses high omega6 oils. This damages the mitochondria which then triggers cancer.

From the States, you guys are one of my few "go to" news sights. Great reporting! Just pure speculation, but I notice that the younger generations overall tend to be outdoors less playing sports (I grew up in the 1970s/early 1980s); it is the period of the computer/information revolution, where people are on their devices. Also, both cooking oils and high fructose corn syrup plus more processed food consumption has really took off in the last 40 years plus. Not sure, but this may contribute to some cancer rate increases. Suggest people check out the podcast of Peter Rogers, MD. He comes off as a bit acerbic, arrogant and odd at times, but he does a good job of explaining the biochemistry and physiology of the human body, and potentially human illness, including cancer. You'll definitely learn something, but you be the judge!

Low levels of Vit D? Been ages since seeing kids out in the streets playing until time to come in when it's getting dark. If they do get out on occasion they are lathered up with sunscreen. The sunscreen by itself gets soaked up into the skin and into the blood stream. Sugar ladened cereal for breakfast and high carbs of Mac and Cheese and pizzas. Heartbreaking to witness. Unconscious parents are setting their children up for disease and an early death.

I wondered, listening to the podcast, if Vitamin D/time spent outdoors could have something to do with it. I was born in the late 70s and distinctly remember that even the kids just a few years younger than me were outdoors far less than I was. People born around 1970-1985 or so really were the last generation in the western world to spend significant amounts of time outdoors during childhood. It's so strange to think how common and normal it is now to basically never see young children playing outside unsupervised.

I think part of the problem is a fear of sexual deviants, but those people were around in the 70s/80s; it just wasn't so much in the Press (the same with wreckless drivers and drugs). I spent three years in England, and it was quite a change with the weather (from California). I remember the sky getting dark so soon in the Winter (northern latitude) and the obvious overcast & rainy days (pays dividends for an invigorating Spring & Summer though). A person can get a good workout at the gym, but unless a gym goer runs outside and does an appreciable amount of hiking, gardening, etc. (especially at a northern latitude), it's very difficult to get enough vitamin D. Plus, the gym workout can become mundane, perhaps not very enjoyable. I think that is a negative on a person's biochemistry.
