The da Vinci Handheld Camera connects to a da Vinci system vision tower and your choice of laparoscope, eliminating the need for a separate lap tower in the OR during robotic-assisted surgery.
Dr. Collin Braithwaite, Professor of Surgery at NYU, explains: “Prior to having a Handheld Camera, one would have to have a separate tower that is wheeled in at the beginning of a case. You get to that portion of the case when you transition to robotics and they have to wheel that back out.”
Dr. Kathy Huang, Surgical Director at NYU, adds: “The motivation is not just to save money, it’s how can we decrease the footprint in the OR? What needs to be there and what doesn’t need to be there? The more we can streamline the technology across one vendor, the easier it is for the nurses.”
