I think the main issue is that little girls don’t really have any.. little girl trends. Back in my day (I’m 15 lmao), we had shopkins, squishiest, slime etc and celebrities to moon over. kids now don’t really have that I think, so they turn to teen/adult trends. It made me sad tbh
@humerus_7 ай бұрын
This is something that I never really thought about so thanks for commenting! I remember when there would be a lot cheaper (and more exciting) trends that would last a lot longer. Everybody could join in and, even after the trend was over, these products/toys could still be used. I'm the same age as you and I've noticed that with the rise of TikTok, younger kids put so much more pressure on themselves to grow up. Yes, most children want to grow up quicker and that's why products like fake kitchen playsets and playhouses are so popular. But how they express it has changed. For example, I would pretend to be in an active conversation with adults when I was younger. Sometimes I would try on eyeshadow but I would view it as "rebellious" or "too mature". A lot of kids now see people on social media with very excessive skincare routines or makeup looks and they don't fully understand that they aren't expected to do this (to be clear, they feel pressured into having the same routines as adults even though they don't need to). I believe I know why they do this but this is purely speculation: On social media, everybody is technically anonymous. Nobody needs to know your name or age. This means that there's no real boundary between children and adults because nobody knows your age. Adults don't look down on kids/ignore kids because they don't know that they are kids. This means that everybody regardless of age can engage in discussion (just to clarify, this isn't necessarily a bad thing). Kids feel like they are on the same level as adults. When an adult posts a skincare routine, kids might feel inclined to follow because they are on the same level. It's almost like if a friend told you all about a new hobby they have; you might want to try it too. The issue is that adults on social media are, understandably, engaging in hobbies and trends exclusive to adults. Kids see these trends and follow them because there's no boundary. They don't view these things as exclusive to adults or mature because they are on the same level. I wish a lot more parents would be stricter on social media with young kids and, even better, wait until a bit later on before they start allowing their kids to use social media (early tweens at the earliest perhaps). Unfortunately, since TikTok is so mainstream, a lot of kids feel like they're missing out if they don't have it. Hopefully, this isn't too wordy and you understand what I mean. I know I just wrote like 3 paragraphs lol TL;DR Since kids are being exposed to more content online meant to appeal to older audiences, they feel pressured into following trends that they don't need to follow. Especially skincare regimens that are unnecessary so early on in their lives.

@ari_299717 ай бұрын
As an old/early gen alpha (nearly gen z)I agree! 10 YEAR OLDS!!! LITERALLY 10 YEAR OLDS!!! are needing dermatologists? The only time when a person needs a dermatologist is when they have skin problems or skin cancer. If they had no skincare rn they wouldn’t be needing a dermatologist. I think it’s a sign of the parents letting the iPad raising them instead of their own. Does these 10 year olds have a iq of a spoon? they have NO wrinkles. The only thing they need is a very very gentle cleanser, then moisturizer and in the day spf. NOT toner’s (well maybe, idk ur skin) or serums, AND NOT retinol. Now I do use skincare products, but it’s not crazy like this. Brands like CeraVe, is one of the best brand in skincare category.

it's so scary and discouraging how we (society) are prioritizing beauty standards and there's a HUGE influx of virtual entertainment (i.e., streaming, social media, influencers, content creators, etc). this is what this generation is growing up in and society is failing them. what about their education?? in the US, education is at an all time low and it should be prioritized. i just want to grab those parents by their shoulders and demand them to wake tf up and pay more attention to what media they're consuming and how they are doing academically. kids are not at fault-we should stop ridiculing them or, on the other hand, exploiting them (like sephora and sad beige moms, they're not a source of income, an accessory, or an aesthetic). let kids be kids!!

At 10, i was in Sephora for one reason, i had started getting acne then and needed something for my face, BUT, i was there with my mom walking with her everywhere she goes cuz i didnt wanna be alone. Im now 15-16 and i find it hilarious 10 yr olds are raiding sephora

But like it’s actually sad for Gen alpha because Ngl I don’t think any of them have like played with barbies/ shopkins and all those stuff I had when I was younger like it’s actually sad when you walk into a restaurant and see little kids with tablets/phones to entertain them,when I was younger I never even had an iPad or tablet and these kids have like not had a childhood it’s actually sad

I can understand kids using makeup as something that's fun and cute but skincare is not necessary at that age unless you have ACTUAL skin problems. Most skincare are scams and just trying to get more money because of "cute packaging" 💀

i totally agree with you. i have gen X parents and my mom is closer to millennial than my dad and you can see the difference of parenting. my mom still punishes my younger siblings, but not as harsh. like my dad would totally still spanck my siblings if it wasnt for my mom. anyways the mix makes well-respective children who literally only stepped in a sephore once (didnt even get anything) who have limited screen time. its OKAY to punish your kids or raise your voice.

i understand the 10 yr olds and skincare aspect because ur changing and 6th graders ARE RUTHLESS, they notice everything, the redness of your skin, the bags under your eyes, EVERYTHING especially this generation.

I am not a whole lot older than these ten year olds, but I was raised to only get what I need and not give into wants like thousands of dollars in skincare. I grew up getting kids makeup pallets and clip-on jewlery from claire's, and mixing play-dough colors, and I really respect my parents for raising me to not be like these ten year olds. I think media having this much of an influence on children is disgusting, and I hope that when I become an adult and eventually have children that they are raised with the same values as I was.

I was 8 when I gained my consciousness, when I was 10 [4 years ago] I hated skincare, I hated pick me's, and I hated makeup. I was also above average on everything, so I was educated about other things earlier, now im 14, for makeup all I wear is 2 things, Mascara, lipgloss, and the rest of the makeup I use for fun

These parents should seriously let them run outside, watch childhood Disney movies, read with books, learn to ride a bike, run after the ice cream truck on Sunday’s, hang with friends while they can, before they go through puberty and loose that chance of having a childhood, PLEASE!

Ben here is me drama: I need help to none of my friends believe I’m autistic even tho I’m diagnosed and they make me eat food i REALLY don’t like! So instead of turning to my counselor about it I’m turning to a Radom ass 24 year old online that had an existential crisis over talking about 10 year olds. ( sorry that it’s over 1 sentence I tried)

When i was 10 i was scared of sephora cuz it was the “big kid” store
@D4rl1ngSt4rd4st07 ай бұрын
Some ten year old can be benefited by skincare if they have acne or skin disorders as long as the skincare is actually good. Some skincare probably is a scam, but as a whole, its not.

Hi there I think you should stand your ground and stay true to yourself and what you want. Good on you for knowing what you don’t want!
@alphamarina13717 ай бұрын
I think you should be honest and turn down his request to go on a date. It’s a lot better than leading him on imo
