We had a doll store that we would go to to look, and Mom got us each an 18" doll from there and came with a cheap outfit. When these newborn dolls first came out, they had one on display and Mom asked if we girl could see it, when the lady said yes, Mom went to pick it up and when that head flopped.....her Mama bear instincts kicked it and she "dove" for the baby's head. The lady had warned Mom the head would flop......but she wasn't expecting it to be THAT realistic! Lol

I never got into these dolls beyond admiring the artistry, I remember when they were thousands of dollars/pounds because premade kits didn't exist (I don't know if you're using premade or not) & the doll makers had to handpour & make custom molds themselves. I'm so glad that those kits allow this sort of thing to become more accessible! I'm actually shocked at how much the price has dropped in comparison to the earlier days of this artistry! You do wonderful work!
@annataymond95294 ай бұрын
Are you thinking of silicone dolls? Because I’m pretty sure berenguer dolls were used when it started and that’s where the term reborn came from, because they were “berenguer reborn” since they stripped the factory paint and repainted them.
@eduardochavacanoАй бұрын
price drop, means low demands.
@BrettHunter97Ай бұрын
@eduardochavacano to be fair, reborn dolls were NEVER popular. Actually, they were quite stigmatized, and since they were mostly bought by women who had miscarried or were infertile, people further demonized it as "sad" and "disgusting." The stigma is still here, unfortunately, but they're actually gaining in popularity and less hated on now. The price drop is because there's more accessible ways to make them, making less work for the artists. BUT normally you'd be correct. Personally I'm not going to judge someone for buying or making it, I'm just here because I admire the skill of turning a blank silicone canvas into an art piece that has deeper meaning to people. Even better if it helps them deal with grief.
@princessmyhand4 ай бұрын
Yes, you DO DEFINITELY DESERVE to be paid your worth! These dolls are a work of art! ART!!! They are not play things…. They are not TOYS!!! They are touchable, holdable, movable ART!!! Dropping them or rough handling can/ will result in damage! These dolls are designed for gentle handling and display only! They look like REAL babies! The more a doll looks and feels real, the more time, effort, and supplies are used to create these masterpieces! If you want a doll with quality such as this… you have 2 options. Buy one from a reputable artist and/or seller OR have the skill to make one yourself! Either way IT WILL cost money to do!!!

Your price of dolls is completely fine! If someone really wants a high quality and EXTREMELY CUTE baby doll, then they’re going to have to pay that price. I did have a question, though. Why are the dolls called “reborns?”
@musicmom78894 ай бұрын
Before blank kits were available, artists would buy factory-made dolls at the store. They would strip off all of the paint, repaint them, add hair, weight them, and add other small details. The dolls were essentially “reborn” into new dolls.

Dolls aren’t something I’m personally interested in, but even I can see just how much talent and work it would take for someone to be able to create a doll that is so incredibly lifelike, like yours are. It really irritates me when people complain in comments about the cost of an artist’s work, and saying things like it’s “not worth the price” the artist is charging. If you wouldn’t buy it or don’t feel it’s worth it, no one is forcing you to spend your money on it, and you have no business telling others who would, that they shouldn’t. Perceived value… what is “too expensive” for one person might just be a great deal to someone else. What I suspect tho, is that they DO actually want one, but can’t afford it or simply can’t justify the purchase in their budget. That isn’t the artist’s fault tho, and they should keep their unsolicited comments regarding pricing to themselves.
@MissTrixie29Ай бұрын
People who do art always hear “I could do cheaper” or “I know someone who does this (for cheaper)”. It doesn’t matter what the art or craft is, someone will be judging the cost. They never recognize the cost of the materials and the cost of your time. £150 is insanely low.
