Why are whooping cough cases increasing in the PNW?

We're old & someone brought back home a type of kennel cough from Portland 2 weeks ago. Not sporadic fits and not flu but a slow building over a few days thing until a two -3 day epic coughing and runny nose deal that was helped by Aleeve, Generic nighttime cherry liquid, and extra doses of zinc along with cal-mag-zinc liquid. It was a something different than we ever experienced.
