Lots of good information for anyone just starting their gardening adventures and for those seasoned gardeners who keep hitting the same walls year after year! This is my second year attempting to put a dent in our weekly grocery bill. Many many years ago I would help my father in his allotment back in the UK (don't seem to have those here in the USA) and some things I learned then seem to emerge from the dusty recesses of my mind from time to time, although anything he would grow in a greenhouse is grown outside here in South Carolina.

Here they call allotments community gardens. I had a community garden plot when I lived in Boulder Colorado in my mid 20s. I learned a lot from the old hands who had been there for years. The big thing is pest and disease pressure, and soils, change depending on where you are located. So there are general "rules" and then there's stuff that is specific to where you currently live. I've gardened my whole life in the western U.S.; northern California, eastern and western Colorado, Arizona, Washington. Irrigation is always the FIRST thing you think about when starting a garden in this part of the country. I'm always stunned at people who rely on rainfall. Just a completely foreign concept to me, lol. Thanks for the love. Good luck with your garden this year.
