and this is why people who say that the two of them should "ditch tashi and get together" don't get it, like they would never allow themselves to be that open with each other and step over that line of no-homo friendship, and tashi is the one who helps them see their feelings for each other and the importance and worth of the other guy in their lives. tashi and patrick didn't last (art is stability), art and tashi fizzled out (patrick is passion), and art and patrick would forever be skirting around each other (tashi is the facilitator). all three of them need each other to be complete and happy.

EXACTLY. Everything you said is correct

nah, they had a great dynamic before her and tashi’s only love is tennis. all of them, especially art, are way too jealous for that to ever work. everything patrick did was to get arts attention and art only got w tashi bc he was hurt by patrick. and tashi herself says she doesn’t like to be a homewrecker!

I definitely don’t get how people can say something like this is "Bromance"

i love your analysis! i have to say i was initially one of those people who thought art patrick should've had more onscreen intimacy. the tension between them and the chemistry of the actors was so palpable its hard not to want more! but you're absolutely right. its necessary to the story and their dynamic that we only see this one moment between them and tashi is the one who "allows" them to be intimate with each other. now i can't see it happening any other way!

This is the correct reading of their dynamic

I also think they kissed each other because Patrick wanted to, but like Patrick said to Tashi later in the movie, he wanted permission; Tashi was moving his head. Plus I just subbed this analysis was really good!

Tashi is my favourite character she really deserved better. But i completely agree and i would add that i think she was somehow their scapegoat. They misjudged her by painting her as someone that manipulated them. She didnt. She knew that their relationship was messy at worst (because they kinda hide who they were which is quite understandable as you explained it ) and codependent at best. However because she is clever, ambitious, and in love of tennis she makes sure to have her part of the cake too. she has her flow but i don't think she is the villain as the way people portray her. I loved so much this movie so so good. And so many rooms for interpretations

I agree. I don’t think anyone was a true “villain” in this movie, especially Tashi. She lost the one thing she truly loved and was passionate for so the things she did made sense as a flawed human in my opinion.

I hated her. She manipulated them from the beginning. I’m sorry Tashi lost the one thing she loved when she was what…18? She obviously needed psychotherapy and didn’t get it. So grow up! What a bitch. Art should have walked away from that hot mess. I felt bad for Patrick.

It’s sad that I can relate to this story because I’ve had 3 friendships with this dynamic and they all ended up in flames because as our friendships progressed with very high speed and intensity there was always an explosion at the end that made us become distant but we all knew there was a “something” that for one reason or another couldn’t happen. Maybe there’s an unknown relationship dynamic between men that our society hasn’t acknowledged or put a label on yet that’s less than a couple but more than a bromance.
