In the year 2023, being afraid of elevators is actually irrational. From a statistical perspective. A vehicle is defined as a mechanized mode of transportation. Elevators fall into this classification. Elevators are a vehicle. In regards to injury and death statistics, elevators have the lowest injury/mortality rate of all vehicles that humans ride on. Safer than cars, bikes, boats, trains, and even planes. 0.002% of human beings that use elevators are injured or killed using them. Out of that 0.002% 98% of the injuries that do occur are incurred by elevator technicians. This means that human beings are only ever injured by elevators during maintenance. Which means that a well maintained elevator will almost never result in injury or death. Literal safest vehicle on the planet, by the numbers, fewest injuries or deaths. If you're not afraid of getting in a car and driving, you have no reason to legitimately fear getting on an elevator. Statistically speaking its the safest vehicle you will ever ride on.

Even outside of the statistics, they basically can't fail outside of crazy outside circumstances (think earthquake). There's a ratchet mechanism so if the elevator releases it will only drop a couple feet. A lot of folks can't really conceptualize statistics without a bit of schooling but I feel like if more people knew about the safety mechanisms they wouldn't be afraid.

He demonstrated his design by standing in an elevator and then cutting the cable and the elevator didn't move an inch. The reason why we have skyscrapers today is because of how reliable William Otis's tension spring was. It's the reason you see OTIS in many elevators, they are still using his patent or a variant thereof 200 years later because it was that damn good.

@@Rafael-kr6zv it could be a specific form of claustrophobia; known as elevatophobia. fear of being stuck in an elevator during a power outage. that's less irrational. power outages do occur and one could be stuck in there for quite some time as they coordinate a rescue. but the Final Destination fear that the elevator is going to plummet to its doom is actually irrational. it literally can't happen.

That lakes is quite nice place to swim in. There is a path on the road side which leads down to a very small "beach". I like to swim back and forth on the widest part. Also the used to be a wooden structure on the mountain side which we used to jump down and also use the zipline.

As a person who worked at a factory where the elevator safeties were ROUTINELY bypassed... They are very safe, they are not going to fall. Just make sure there is an elevator actually at the door when you walk in, so you don't fall down the shaft.

I don't get why people praise Asmon for being a recluse who eats like 2 different meals, never gets sunlight, doesn't exercise or bathe.
