Nalanda was destroyed 2 Times by Hindu Huns and Gaudas before Kilji. Brahmin Pushyamutha sunga destroyed 84, 000 Buddhist monastries after King Ashok. AADHI Sangarachariyar burnt tons of Buddhist books in Kanchipuram , Kerala and kannada and Persecuted Buddhists monks . Vedic Shivaitis destroyed Anuradhapuram and Buddhist Great Shri Vijaya Empire in Malaysia & Java. Bothi Saththuwa , Bothi Dharma, Buddha sena , were Tamil Buddhist scholars . What happen to them . If Hindus treated Buddhist well in India , Why they need to bring Buddha's youth relic SECRETLY to Sri Lanka. Buddha's youth relic too was stolen by Ariya Brahmin rulers from Madura ( Pandiya supported ) . And later many struggle , they return to Sri Lanka In real , Budhists were persecuted by Hindu Brahmins when Buddhism gave equal rights to all casts and access of education to all casts. Brahmins and hight caste royals w were unhappy for that . They systematically destroyed Buddhist strategic places . Only one book says kilji. But who was real author of that book . ? What if Brahmins wrote book in Muslim name to put all blame on Islamic Invaders? A Tibeatean Buddhist books says But that Kilji plundered only Mavihara but 2 Brahminic students burnt Nalanda university after few Buddhist monks locked them by throwing water on their face . Why no one considered Tibet resourcers. Because British needed to spread Islamophobia against Ottoman Empire to defeat them from the time of colonialism. What ever There, Brahmins played big role in Buddhist destruction in India more than Islamic Invaders. But Brahmins are busy blaming Islamic Invaders in order to hide their atrocities on Buddhists and jains .

When you're ruled by foreigners for centuries who have no relation to the history of the land and people they now rule, how can you expect any other result? The British were slightly different colonizers because they were going through the Renaissance, Industrial Revolution and a revolution of scientific thought, which made their archeologists and Indologists to play an important role in bringing back many forgotten figures of India into our public consciousness (see James Prinsep and his deciphering of two ancient Indian scripts and the subsequent translation of Ashokan edicts that were found all the way from modern Afghanistan to modern central-south India). Although I do have one quibble with your statement - memories of these places do exist, but they exist in oral traditions, and even written accounts are in India's various languages, which are often ignored or just inaccessible to the western and English-speaking historians who've established the historiography of India that we're still dealing with today. Things are starting to slowly change now though, but much of India's history in the medieval period is yet to be documented from oral traditions, or translated into English, or even buried under ground

I had been reading books for the last 26+ years, on Buddha's eachings & Buddhism in india till, thanks to Buddhist Council @ taiwan. They had been kind enough to provide me with materials on Buddha & Buddha's teachings whenever I required. My basic knowledge about Buddhism now is fairly good & sound. My only ambition now is to be reborn as a devout buddhist in a buddhist family in a buddhist majority country like Thailand where therevada Buddhism is thriving. Hope, with the blessings of Buddha my wish would be fulfilled.

I also observe my Hindu traditions like Diwali, holi, sankranti etc and even visit temple occasionally. I do not see my Buddhist practice conflicting with my Hindu culture and traditions. Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism are all extensions of Vedic teachings and are therefore rightly called as dharmik religions. @enlightenedsoul7468 Sir, Thanks for your wishes. Yet, I have to agree to disagree with you. I am sorry to say so. I have read vedas & imaginary stories of hindu Festivals & gods in Epics. To say Buddha's teachings & vedas are one & the same is like saying black & white are one & the same colors. I say so without any disregard for either. This is my personal & considered opinion. I don't want to go into it further. I am 73+. Not a day had passed by in the past without my going to temples every day. I followed in the footsteps of my grandparents who were devout hindu till their last breath. I, too, was like them till 47. A moment of life or death happened in my life. Fortunately & unexpectedly, I was resurrected. I went into all hindu scriptures in search of some solace from them but found none. I even first turned to the Bible & then only Buddhism. I finally found not only the solace but also panacea for all the ills of my past life. It didn't happen all of a sudden. For every illness, there is a palliative in English medicine, but total cure is there only in Siddha medicine. This is my experience. Hinduism gave me superficial happiness. Buddhism is incomparable & comprehensive. It goes to the bottom of life's complexities. There is a complete solution for each one. I could draw contentment in Buddhism. It is much deeper than momentary happiness. Theravada Buddhism is original & conforms to the true teachings of Buddha in Pali Cannon. Mahayana Buddhism is influenced by Hinduism. My family members are still Hindus. We have Ganapathi deity in a temple within our premise. Pooja is conducted every day by my wife. I am not against any religion, least of all against Hinduism. The latter had lead me in the path of spirituality in my early life. I am now inexplicably & inexorably attracted to Buddha's teachings like a fish that takes to waters. I pray for your pardon if i have offended you in any way. Best wishes. Thank you very much.

a lot of unanswered questions. How did a horde of 200 turks slaughter a population of 10,000 students (monks and non monks)? Usually a place of such scale as Nalanda has its security forces, at least 200 based on its size. for a population of 10,000 to overcome 200 Turks, it is 50 people to one Turk. Food for thought, good video here as it jolt us back to history

Sir, Learning and wisdom acquired by the students can't be destroyed by anybody. These universities have imparted knowledge in various branches to people all over the world. As in Hinduism, the Guru says after the acquiring knowledge there is no need of texts. Only this the future generation could not achieve the knowledge at one place. The knowledge and wisdom is scattered all over the world through the students of different nations who have passed out of the Nalanda University at that time

Who ever is interested in Nalanda. The university was 20 sq km in square. There were sixteen villages. There was also a single gate which is so big that it is a village today. There's an eighty foot bronze Buddha statue and a 100 sq ft bronze ashram. All these can be seen in the KZbin video " Nalanda sangaramma in it's entirety."

About Nalanda or 🛕 Takahashi, in India still we have many hidden manuscripts roting away still not deciphered or preserved 40,000 of such manuscripts at Bhubaneswar's State Museum,palm-leaf manuscripts 📜 stacked in the museum. Most of them are written in the Oriya script, though the language is Sanskrit text was copied from one leaf to another. The oldest manuscript here belongs to the 14th century but the text can be dated to the 2nd century. Many more in Rishikesh's(devpaayag) Varanavasi's haridwar's temples & National archive of India. We need cutting edge tech like high-resolution X-ray detector that creates 3d map separating inc from material its used on, called HEXITEC Smithsonian museums are using. & can digitally archive our past.

Nalanda University was India's ancient University alright. It didn't just house books on Buddhism & it just didn't have only Buddhist teachers. Even before Buddha was born, even before Buddhism could take it's infant steps, ancient Indians, who are told called hindus had accumulated vast scientific knowledge about various things. For example ancient Indians knew the technology of aeroplanes which they called pushpaka vimana. The ancient Indians who were hindus knew the presence of nine planets in our solar system & knew that all the planets were round. Their knowledge of astronomy & astrology was unparalleled even to this day & age. This video directly or indirectly is hinting that Nalanda was a ' Buddhist only ' University. No way. The original buddhists were originally hindus who had like their sanatani counterparts acquired knowledge & wisdom from Hindu scriptures like Vedas & Upanishads.

All you have mentioned is right, but the word Hindu was introduced after 18century. Before that, Ajvika ( Aseevagam) Vaishnavam, saivam, and Tamil's 5 reason God worship. All these combined together became Hinduism. Tamil worship way is the oldest of all. After Aryan's invasion, vedic period started. Cast system evolved then Budhism, Jainism introduced. Tamils are one of the original contributors to Hinduism's vast corpus of gods, philosophy, philosophers etc. The later Tamils contributed much more in terms of Rituals, bhakti literature, and philosophy than any other linguistic group, and so Tamils should be proud of their contribution to Hinduism.

I can neither confirm it nor deny it. I was not able to find the reference in any of the books by authoritative and credible historians. All I can say is I am yet to come across that story in any authoritative book on medieval history of India.

Fully agree, one need not be literate to leave/save books , literatures of other cultures, religions, medicines etc, and one need not to be an illiterate to burn down such a great University time and again ,if it was done accidentally or unintentionally , the destruction of Nalanda would be the first as well as last one to do so, but all the great universities of that time were systematically destroyed , which means it was done intentionally, no more reasons.

The shame is not Khilji, shame was the kings or owners of the university who did not protect the university. If you can not protect the your inheritance or your possesions, you are lame. First build protection then build wealth. What a shame. Khilji was just a random attacker, he could have beaten so easily.

There were series of attacks on Indian kingdoms starting 8th century and kingdoms resources were drained and they become weaker even after successfully defending themselves. For eg. Mahmud ghazni vowed to invade India every year as part of holy war(jihad). And he did it until finally succeeding in 17 th attempt. After defeat of the army, there was no stopping the raiders. That's why common people needed to be trained for fighting. The truth is Indian society was always fragmented. The Buddhist monks colluded with bin Qasim to dispose Hindu king during attack on Sindh without realising that this will come back to hit them hard.

It may have been written by susruta, or any great being from 1000 BC or older, those were present till 1199 AD after that as India history says how delhi sultanate came to power and only foreign invaders ruling us till 1947 AD. As the nalanda burnt alive, and just after that invaders got sucess in permanently establishing itself says alot similarity.
