The problem with BR's is you spend 10-15 minutes only to lose in a 2 second interaction where you get shot from behind. It's simply not worth the time for how you usually die in these games. Yeah maybe you'll win a few, but the vast vast majority of the time you get shot in the back, game over.

Absolute truth... the kids get addicted to a "WIN" which means absolutely nothing! I played a game with friends where they got excited over winning while we had like 4 kills between us. They didn't understand why I thought it was boring. They are addicted to the dopamine release, and gambling, because every round is another gamble. From the drop to the engagements.

But even in their 30s they succumb to this addiction of BR and League of Legends etc. - these games do as much as they can to leave everything out of your control. "Just one more game" because maybe the next time you will get good teammates, maybe next time you get a good weapon instead of dropping on a pistol, maybe next time etc etc the list just goes on. Always dangling the damn carrot in front of your nose. It's never in your control, just like gambling. 3 hours of gameplay and 10 minutes of shooting -- I think I'll pass!

BR games exploit players the same way gambling games do--you have a slim chance of winning, and SOME people win, but the vast majority of the time you WILL lose. You just lose in this game. And the game is very smart at making you want "one more game". It's a slot machine that you invest time into and get back _nothing._ it is an offensive genre to me, and I feel like everyone who likes BR games have been duped and continue to be fooled every time they retry.

I bet that Battlegrounds are full with people still even tho WOw is dying i am betting my ass there are still people enjoying pvp in WSG or whatever. @@bigpayday565 I can't remember who said it, but it was somebody on the Respawn dev team. But anyways, they said that originally they had double jumps, even triple jumps as well as wall-running, but they took those things out. I don't think they're trying to make the game like a Titanfall BR, hence why they're not implementing the same movement system, despite the fact the game is in the Titanfall universe. I agree with you though, I was really looking forward to Titanfall 3, but I'm pretty happy to play Apex in the meantime. The game isn't for everybody though. Like the game or not, I think we can all appreciate Respawn for finally getting the recognition and popularity that their games deserve!

It's hard not to feel like gun fodder when your lvl 25 and do nothing else but loot, shoot and die and only get the odd random kill. I'm so conflicted about apex, it has great mechanics and gameplay, but it's still the BR loot shoot n die loop. I've felt a bit down on my self for not being able to get into this game because it's so well crafted, so thanks for a great review that puts things into perspective. You got yourself a sub good sir. In my opinion a lvl match system would also be a blessing to isolate the try hards and curious casuals.

Agreed. The matchmaking seems to be all over the shop right now. I guess matching 60 players is easier said than done but pitting lvl 4 players against lvl 64 players seems a bit lopsided. Cheers for the sub!

Its not your fault man. Its hard if you are solo dropping in a game infested with cheaters, trolls and rude players. Without good teamwork and good players its a horrible experience. I myself am contemplating just uninstalling it and sticking with titanfall 2 and bf5. One good thing about this game, is all the trolls will be flocking to it and leaving other games.

Most I've seen was 1k at peak hours. least I've seen was 80 people qeued. It also should not be by lvl which is just time played. It should be by skill. They definitely record enough stats to make a decent algorithm. How bout K/D and W/L or finishing place, damage done. etc...

One thing I failed to mention is the settings in relation to the controls on console. The sensitivity options are terrible. You can either have extremely slow sensitivity or fast, with nothing in between. Probably an easy fix so let's hope this gets patched at some stage.

Apex Legends did get boring after many wins. Tbh I’m glad it was free because I don’t feel bad about uninstalling it lol. It was good while it lasted, but players will get bored eventually. Nothing really kept me playing the game.

There were many good qualities of Apex, however it suffers from one fatal flaw: BR. I hate this genre and feel like it is ruining gaming. A better moniker for this genre is running, looting and dying suddenly to someone who found a better weapon while looting simulator. This is especially true for Apex, however it includes new features like respawning (unless your entire team gets wiped out in 3 seconds) and ultimate abilities (that you probably won't live long enough to use. Save yourself the frustration and just play Overwatch or Siege.

Good Video 👍 I really appreciate that you focus on playing on console. I switched from ps4 to pc last year. But before that I felt a lot of reviews ignored the difference between console and pc gameplay. For example now I watched your video and when you mentioned that health and ammo should be grouped in the hud I wasn't really sure if it would make a big difference until you mentioned that on console you sit infront of a TV screen and there those distances matter. That's true. And the "skill problem" with BR games is the reason a lot of people playing it, I think. It's like Mario Kart. The basic handling needs a bit of skill and you can improve by using techniques that are harder to pull of. But even when you perfected all of that it does not guarantee that you win. The items add randomness, needed randomness for inexperienced players to keep up with those other skilled players. So in Apex Ledgens skill like good aim and smart gadget use will give you an advantage but you can still be killed by someone who was lucky and found good items. So it's "fun" for everyone. Even an inexperienced player can win the game with a decent amount of luck. If that's good? Depends what you expect. But it guarantees a growing playerbase because everyone can have a fun round.

One of the thing you go over in your video is the movement (this isn’t some thing of “your opinion is different therefore bad”). In a dev q&a they talked about why there isn’t the movement from the TF series and they said that “it breaks teams up way to easy and quickly” and not only that they even tested triple jumping but they just couldn’t do it. The difference between a car and advanced movement like in TF is the fact that you and your team can move as one whole unit instead of a bunch of random players although you can do it just most people don’t.

Gosh. Battle royale and loot is ruining games. Garbage with bad players. I really wish Epic Games did not abandon Unreal Tournament to work on Crapnite. If it wasn't games like Unreal Tournament, Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein, you would not have games like call of booty, galo, destiny, overwatch, OR crapnite. Period. Unreal is fast paced and actually requires skill. None of these games require skill. It's for twitch and youtubers to make money, and easy games to make everyone feel good about themselves. None of this garbage is competitive. People should be playing UT pre-alpha and get more players.

Thats exactly what I thought when I tried out Apex Legends this weekend. Usually i play Ghost Recon (Ghost War PvP) which rly requires Skill at some point. So I thought "I am kinda fast and I know how to fight CQ and long distance" So what can go wrong? Well... You dont need any skill to play this game. The guy who knows the positions of the best loot just get's it and fucks up players that have worse equipment. That's it. No skill required. The controls and mechanics are super easy. It's just the weapon and maybe the class you are playing that is relevant to lose or win. After aprox. an hour I deleted the game because it was no fun for me at all. Either you get good loot (which I didnt get of course because I didnt knew where to search) or you die. I'll stay with Ghost Recon I guess...

My feelings also. I do well enough in other FPS games but the skill ceiling here seems pretty low when talking exclusively about gun on gun. It’s hard to know though seeing as you can get melted by some weapons so fast, and other weapons which deal decent damage normally seem to do nothing against purple armour.

The thing with Battle Royale games is that it is an expansion of an earliest form of FPS multiplayer... if you remember Quake, or Half-Life their multiplayer is that you drop into a map usually more of a smaller arena kind of map, you spawn with a basic weapon and run around to pick up better weapon and you run around or even bunny hop around to kill all the other players, but after you die, you spawn again... thus your performance rely on your K:D ratio.. just like how later team based FPS are like CS, TF or COD, Battlefield... but BF series have their own score system... Then they add in a more complex inventory system that is more like a MMORPG... to add depth in an otherwise short game... but to me it is too much time to spend managing the inventory for what is a short frame of time to enjoy the game...

I gave this game an honest try. I've played 60 games and have only got 52 kills. It doesn't satisfy my shooter needs. I like games where I can get 52 kills in just a couple of games. It's boring to spend 99% of the time just getting equipement and not dying from being out of a circle. I could see how it might be fun if played with friends, but I can't play with them because they either have xbox or pc. Playing with randoms hardly works. The best I've done is 3rd place and I still only got 3 kills. Boring. It's sad really, because some of these guns would be really cool in a team deathmatch or free for all with respawns and smaller maps. I might consider spending money if there were a variety of game types to utilize these characters and guns in.

Apex is the best BR I've played but still, I can only bring myself to play it with friends. All these BR games play the same: (usually) a frantic beginning, 15 minutes of nothing and then either dying or a couple of battles that take 2 minutes maximum each. Also, Apex has the problem of everyone having a shit ton of life and being able to heal so unless it turns into a close quarters encounter, the fights always drag for too long which in turn always draws attention from at least another squad that slaughters the first two. Sooo many times we've downed two enemies just to down a third one and see that they're still not dead and realize that another another fucking squad is also in the fight. For what I've experienced the best strategy to win is avoid any fighting, survive until only your squad and two enemy squads are left, wait for them to kill each other and then enter and finish off the survivors. And that's not fun at all.

Look, personally I don’t care about lore in shooters. I haven’t sought out any of the backstory for Apex because I don’t care. Whether the characters are gay, straight or anything in between, I couldn’t care less. All I want is characters that look interesting and badass. However, for some people having lore is important and allows for a certain level of role playing. I honestly think it is great for conflict avoidant people. I couldn't agree with you more. I think BR is terrible. Ten to fifteen minutes of running around and hiding, then maybe getting 0 to 5 kills (usually 1 or 2), if fortunate, then getting shot it the back or groupganged and it is over. It isn't very fun or rewarding.

Apex is the best game in this genre. games last no longer than 20 mins, so being killed in an unfavourable scenario is easier to stomach. Its smooth, and good fun. The biggest disgrace with it is the character roster and the loot drops, apex packs are an actual scam. Game is free but having hundreds of quips in loot is shite.

Battle Royale’s suck because you can be doing amazing in a game and dropping tons of kills in one second. But then you can make one mistake or get a little unlucky and all that work is gone. There’s nothing worse than losing a game to someone that you know you’re better than. I like Apex Legends because the gun play is fantastic I just wish it wasn’t battle royale. I should probably try Titanfall lmao

While I may disagree with some of the points and apex is still my favourite game, good review. Lots of nostalgia here! Apex has added a new non br mode, do you think you'd check that out? The game has changed a lot since the start but if you don't like BRs then you'll probably still not like the main mode but idk. I mean it has been over 2 years so it's not surprising it's changed loads but that does include a lot of the points you mentioned in the vid. Also you can increase the cursor speed I don't know how I feel like saying that but I do. Edit: one thing I really disagree with is movement. I've played titanfall 2 a lot and obviously the movement is much more toned down but apex has very smooth movement - fast too, even before they added lots more Legends with movement based abilities. There's a lot of movement tech like wall bouncing and bunnyhopping and tap strafing etc that make movement a lot more satisfying. I mean there are veichles on one of the maps but generally people just prefer to go by foot or other means. Totally agree on how awful the loot crates are though lmao

I’ve played Apex Legends for the first time last week, and honestly I don’t really like it. There’s only one mode, no solo, the battle pass is shit, repetitive, and boring. I really don’t see what’s so special about it. It’s just like every standard/generic BR game. And playing a few matches of it, I instantly got bored & deleted the game.

I agree with most of your arguements exept for the looting part. I feel that this game has fairly well balanced weapons that can put up a fight against eachother. Of course if you don't have a weapon it is a disadvantage, but even with pistols in this game you can take down someone with good aim and dodging. Also it almost adds to the skill to drop down and snag a weapon quick to take down the opponents. Simply if someone is skilled at knowing where a gun will be and using more skill to get the perfect launch to the gun, they deserve the kill on the worse player.

Until they make a BR game that focuses less on "random" and more on "skill", then myself and millions of others will find other things to play, lol. Even something as basic as allowing players to start a match with a single (and basic) loadout, would be enough for many of us "haters" to start to enjoy BR games. That's my biggest beef with the genre... you happen to land 50 yards away from good gear (or any gear at all), while the closest enemy to you will happen to land right next to the best gear the game has to offer and boom... you die in the first minute to no fault of your own. The gaming industry, especially with newer fps titles, has really been focusing on skill-less features to appease "bad" players. Whether it's BR games where a bad player can find better gear on accident, or one of the many "specialist" filled games where you essentially earn scorestreaks as participation trophies... the lack of actual skill needed to perform well is really starting to push many of the hardcore/veteran players away.

Battle Royale is not that appealing to me, and I think Apex is going to face difficult times ahead, even though Apex looks and sounds great. Fortnite introduced a novel building system, which is fun to mess around with, even if you aren't currently engaging an enemy, which is a big part of the reason that it is so popular. Plus, it has an offline mode. I think Apex is a great idea for BR, but I am concerned about how long it will really last. Honestly, with only 8 total characters, you have to wonder whether the producer was concerned about this game's viability.

Battle Royale is just a fucking boring genre. I can't wait until this fad is over. There's far too much time invested in building up your inventory only to have a 60 second engagement where you either get shot in the back or long distance and back out OR you win the fire fight so you can spend a minute or two healing and then continue running around just looting. BR: 15 minutes of looting. 2 mins of actual shooting. Either camp or get killed by a long distance camper. Die, back out of the server and do it again. Absolutely fucking BORING.

Usually the more players there are the less the bad apples stand out. I'm not sure I believe this game has 2.5 million players. Maybe 2.5 million accounts lol. For example I've seen the player remmii.exe 3 times now. And a few other names I've seen a couple times. 2.5 million players in asian countries? lol Maybe the fact its free does play a role in its toxicity but I'm not sure I believe that. For example a game like mechwarrior online is free but has an extremely mature community. I avoided pubg and fortnite for these reasons, figured its mostly kids and trolls. Because those types, along with huge selfish egos, are who would be attracted to all the negative things you stated about this type of game. I guess its human nature and why its so popular, but it doesn't seem very sporting to me. Especially with no matchmaker by skill? I gave apex legends a try and my fears are confirmed. Tdm is better when it's like medium sized maps and 6vs6, 12 vs 12, maybe up to 20vs20. It has to feel organic, not too messy and chaotic. Needs that balance where most encounters feel personal. Otherwise squad deathmatch usually works well

Like you said this games suffers from the typycal "I got the better loot so you aré fucked" and i remember this when I was playing and drop on the hotzone , getting 10 kills ( my teammates as always diyng and leaving the game because fuck team work right ? ). THEN ALL OF THE SUDEN with my coke addicted reflexes I spot another enemy which I HIT FIRST WITH MY SHOTGUN IN A POINT BLANK RANGE AND LOSE JUST LEAVING HIM AT 5 HP, BECAUSE HE HAD A PURPLE CHESS AND I HAVE A BLUE ONE. @@goukigod but also like you mentioned they didnt keep any of the core aspects of Titanfall such as the parkour system and in that beginning cutscene for the game when you first boot it up I dont think it even makes a mention of the war that was going on in Titanfall granted I could be wrong about that. I just feel that them using Titanfall as their backup was just that: a backup to try and bring in the crowd that enjoyed Titanfall. Obviously I respect your opinion that it was a good move, which it was, to tie to Titanfall but there was alot they could've done gameplay wise to really remind you that this is still a continuation of Titanfall

Apex Legends sucks massively, and I mean MASSIVELY if you don't have a premade squad. The random players you meet generally suck ass (hate to be mean but they are REALLY terrible. Then they talk shit because you didn't jump into a pit with 3 dudes only to get lazered in 1 second, yes, forreal, they do :/). They don't just understand that you DON'T play a Battle Royale like you do CoD or Battlefield. I don't recommend anyone play it unless you have a premade squad. Orchestrating where to move, how to attack, when to attack, are tactics that evade the average player in Apex Legends (PC), unfortunately. I myself am about stop playing it unless I have a premade squad, no exceptions. I mean, I have the skills to solo, but being that there is skill based matchmaking in this game, going solo generally means going up against 3 players of the same skill. That was fun all of maybe 1-2 weeks I tried to do it, and it made me a better player, but it just sucks when you want to play to have fun in a full party game.

Because they lose fights, so if you want to keep playing you have to avoid fights. It's an atrocity of game design that a shooter can discourage you from shooting and punish you when you try. It forces players to just run around playing Looting Simulator, pretending that it even matters when they know that they have a 99% chance of losing, so it's a waste of time.

I don't really blame developers, because it makes bank. Maybe it's a generational Zoomer thing. I would be interested to see the age breakdown of people who really like BR. But that would be a rather dumb and pointless thing to study. I have a feeling the breakdown would be mostly Zoomers. With other generations being at least slightly less there in proportion to their actual generational size.

I'm a bit older than a zoomer and I don't know anyone into BRs. I couldn't say if it's the game design or the art direction that caters towards that audience but there's a definite trend.
