It's worse, it was almost immedietly after they started working on it, so the foudation was ruined. Plus the newly recruited team had to learn Frostbite engine again to upgrade it and that took over half of the time allocated for the game development time. So yeah, this was so badly mismanaged.

I freaking hate the Specialists. It's an awful system. It killed the franchise for me. Everyone is so self-sufficient that teamwork's just thrown out the window 95% of the time. There's a reason why recons can't carry ammo boxes, but in 2042, snipers just get infinite ammo. I hate it. I really fucking hate the specialist system and I hope they trash that for the next game.

BF3 and BF1 are the two battlefields to look up to as per maps & atmosphere/details. They should have done what they are supposed to do in S5, the evolution of old maps (BF3 maps were my favorite, not a fan of most of BF4 maps) + the level of atmosphere and detail of BF1. And instead of increasing the number of players they should have focused in evolving and improving the level and detail of destruction. From 2042 I liked the idea of multiple flags to conquer in a sector for the conquest mode. As for breakthrough I think there should be an evolution, I've always wondered why they have never thought about using destruction as one of the goals in breakthrough (like destroying a bridge, or destroying a communication tower or planting a bomb) that could be easily implemented and alterneted to capping the flag objectives. I always loved that in frontlines you have to destroy the artilerry com as the last objective.

Battlefield 2042 has definitely gotten better since launch. You can't even lie about it. There are many places where you can have close quarter gunfights. But the maps sure are big and open than other bf games. Sure there isn't any Battlefield "atmosphere", but I think that's due to it being a futuristic game. Like with bf 1. It was based off of ww1. So creating that form of "atmosphere" wouldn't be hard. Same with bf5. With bf 2042, none of us here knows how a futuristic war would be. Neither them. You're a bf 1 simp and when you try a different game that doesn't fit what you had in bf1, you trash talk about with only 15 hours into the game. Please. Bf 2042 and cod are two different games. Don't expect the gun fights to be the same. The time to kill is not all that quick. It depends on whay gun you use. That's also why the lobbies are much larger. The movement is the same in bf5. Sure it's quick, but I don't see how that's generally a bad thing? You say you have a general idea of how the game is with 15 hours? Stop joking. 15 hours is literally nothing. Stop comparing the game with cod. I agree with some of your points like the destruction. There is far too little and I hope they change that in the future. Yet 1 whole year has passed Preference also plays a role in this. If you hate the game so much don't play it and go back to cod.

I tried to get into 2042, but there's so many things missing, and especially teamplay. I'd be more satisfied with a game built on Battlefield 4, with all quality of life changes introduced in later releases. I've had so much fun in the games, with smaller urbans maps in particular, where the tension you've mentioned is at an all time high, with buildings being blown up all around you, and all time chaos.

In 2042, the medics not healing and reviving and supports not giving ammo is combined tenfold from other games, both because the average player is simply worse and because the maps are so enormous that sometimes there just isn't very many people near you. Games feel isolated and there are rarely large, coordinated assaults like previous games, it's just individuals running around until eventually enough people die.

You got it on point, from first to last minute of the video. To be honest, I am surprised that BF 2042 survived this far. I thought it would be completely dead by now. DICE should have template that every new Battlefield shoud be based on. I really liked BFV and powerful tanks, using smoke to revive team mate, shooting flare in the air. It was less imersive with the women screaming arround and with some skins like playing as a german on a japanise side. Basically they have the formula, just add new things on top of that, don't change, re-arrange stuff. But I think Battlefield is a dead franchise, which breaks my heart. Dice is always focusing on the younger audience instead of the BF veterans, the players who will still play the game years after the release. BF 2042 was created to attract players from CoD, Apex and some other games for kids.

Thank you for reminding us of how beautiful battlefield used to be😢. finally, an honest review of bf2042 after season 3 launch. those who say bf2042 has become better probably haven't played the older bf titles. Yes, it became a better bf2042 than it was at launch but nowhere near the feel and as good of the older bf titles. As you said older titles had this cinematic feeling in them, the tension, the sounds of soldiers around you, that war feeing, the destruction, the realism in gameplay and so many things that are not in bf2042. At this point the smartest thing the Battlefield Devs could do, is to expand portal into its own game and call it “Battlefields” or something. Basically it would be DICE’s Master Chief Collection or Handsome Collection. Include EVERY single Battlefield with their respective campaign, Co-op modes, multiplayer maps and DLC’s and update their graphics to the modern era, but with their art-style still intact. Give bot support, make it cross platform, integrate a proximity chat feature, and let their be official servers with set rules, and custom servers. That way if people want to do a 2v62 bot match or even a 2vs 126 match they can. If they want to fight as WW2 soldiers against futuristic ones they have the freedom to customize. If they liked the old movement features without the sliding, LET THEM HAVE THE FREEDOM TO MAKE THEIR RULES. It would let older players who never had a pc when they were younger to experience past battlefields to a greater potential, and it would bring in a new audience to a great environment. Plus it would hold off a majority of players and allow DICE needed time to figure out the direction of where they want to go and how to properly use frostbite, since it’s common knowledge it’s a bitch to work with.

I've played literally every battlefield game, but BF3 was the one that hooked me. I played the beta for 2042 and then the release via ea play. Wasn't a big fan. That being said, since it's release on gamepass and season 3, I'm really enjoying it. Each to their own. I've enjoyed all the battlefield games besides hardline. Battlefield 2042 is different.. But it's still enjoyable and it's still battlefield. Might not be the best edition, but it's still good, at least it is now in my own opinion.

I tried playing it again on PS5, controls still feel clunky and terrible, I shouldn't have to tweak a million things in the settings just so I can get something that only half way resembles normal. I'm not a fan of COD and the direction they've taken their games as of late, but I can literally fresh install one of their games and all I'd have to to is slightly tweak the sensitivity and everything feels fine. Even old battlefield games feel fine on controller with minimal tweaks in the settings. This was always my biggest gripe with 2042.

The map design is extremely poor, it allows for extremely cheap kills and breaks the flow of the game. I don’t know what it is but the gunplay also feels a bit weird, it’s kinda hard to explain. It’s not a bad game and still has those battlefield moments especially in breakthrough and can get really tense as shit is exploding all around you but it’s not on the same level as the other bf’s.

It will always be a stupid cartoon where everyone runs around in super human speed, teamplay is non existent and destruction a thing of the past. A cod-fortnite-clone disguised as a battlefield but essentially an empty shell and a shadow of it's former glory. No tweaks and twitches will change those basic design and conceptual errors. A Sun Tzu quote is the most fitting description for 2042: "A kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again to be, nor can the dead ever be brought back to life."

It’s unfortunate to see a game that led in the FPS open world/big battle shooters, which most games have tried to be/tried to mimic their recipe and foundation, reduced to mimicking someone else like war zone. That’s all this stems from is BF 2042 trying to capitalize on the BR gaming. Again, unfortunate to see them a year later having to redo Maps, fix characters to some degree, and throw in a very shallow season pass when they should be filling every update with new content. New Maps. Not rehash anything. They set the bar and the trend years ago. Now they have dug a hole so deep they cannot even climb out.

One thing that hurts me the most is the atmosphere, they butchered it really hard, everything looks and sounds too clean, pristine, curated, BF1 soldiers sounded desperate/anxious and looked dirty, meanwhile 2042's operators are happy go lucky, cleaner than a surgery room.

With so many things in this game, e.g. specialists, I don't have so much of a problem with the concept as I do how it's actually implemented. I'm enjoying the game but it's definitely dumb fun and lacks the depth of prior titles. Often it feels like the best tactic is to just yeet yourself at at the nearest objective and hope that enough teammates are yeeting themselves at the same objective that you'll cap it.

7 months later. It still sucks, I have no idea why a coworked said they changed everything and it's "actually good" There's no hardcore, they have classes that do effectively nothing and it's all up to the specialists and their abilities. The one engineer with a tracking missile, it's too fast and only does 20-40% damage outside of an ATV with only 2 shots available. The 128 man maps are so far just absolute slogfests for the attackers just grinding my personal morale down. There's nothing really "fun" about this game.

In my opinion the biggest issue are the specialists they are unlikable as it gets. Guns and vehicles feel cheap like they are toys. I'm currently trying it in the Xbox series x it looks pretty good I'm gonna give it that but the controller layout is horrible. I used to play bfbc2 and bf3 a lot in PC but 2042 feels like a more primitive game compared to these even the portal modes suck there's no organized chaos but random if that makes any sense.

The lack of engagements sucks too. All the running around to just get shot then rinse and repeat. I get you can grab a vehicle and get to the fight but it’s still boring.

Couldn't believe the horrible state of the game when i played some days ago. Gameplay on foot is simply horrible, i felt like i was walking on ice and lagging at the same time. I kept checking my ping but it was 17ms. Time to kill is awful, it feels like im not hitting anything

I just bought this game, I have about 10 hours and tbh it's not a good game. Nothing like battlefield V. The worst part is that i play on console and piloting to shooting from long distances sucks.

BF5 literally did every aspect better than BF1: destruction, audio, vehicles, weapons, gunplay, movement, level design, graphics, etc etc... and people complained so they get what they deserve with BF2042. I've played all the games and every one has it's own special piece of bullshit. I love Battlefield dearly, but here's my negative takes on the series as a whole and some specifics. Personally, I dislike the variety of game-modes and I think they shouldn't have a game-mode selection... its nice in theory, but realistically it just thins the servers out so much that nobody is playing Battlefield, Portal is an amazing idea but look how thinned out it is by everyone trying to make an experience... I feel like instead of trying to make every map work for all game-modes, they should make each map cater to it's own unique 64 player experience. When you see Noshahr you're playing TDM, when you see Iwo Jima you're playing Breakthrough. Everyone kinda has that "knowing" of which game-mode is superior on each map, DICE should push that. Don't try to conform Valparaiso into TDM or Conquest when it's obviously a Rush experience. I hate unrealistic sights... BF3 kinda started it by allowing RU sights on US weapons and vice versa, also there were just way too many copy-paste sights. We only need a Red-Dot, an ACOG, and Sniper scope for Recon weapons. (Or in the case of WW1/WW2 basically nothing but factory-sights outside of low-power Recon scopes) BC2 was the last time this was done right, though it would be nice if the scopes were unique to each weapon, varying in zoom and appearance, esp a unique scope for each sniper rifle so they feel more different. I hate copy-paste vehicle specializations... this is in basically every Battlefield, however BF5 had a sorta unique variety for each vehicle! But holy hell they let you pick way too many... you should pick a vehicle based on what it brings to the table, not how attachments can make them all function the same. Every game except sorta BF5 has the exact same choices on vehicles... at least BC2 didn't try to hide it. Copy-paste weapon attachments are terrible... again basically in every Battlefield game. How about making each weapon unique to play instead of slapping the same Heavy Barrel or Recoil Buffer on every gun. (also fake guns are stupid, I get its their gimmick but ughh... and dumb shit like everybody running around with HMGs and automatics in BF1) Skins are stupid... they all look ugly and conflict with every map. I wish Battlefield just assigned unique skins to the infantry and vehicles on each map. Snow map has everything in winter skins... etc. Or just don't haves skins at all. (BF1 kinda did this with infantry skins, but its mostly just a static copy-paste for each faction) Elite kits and specialists are cringe... at least in BF5 they were just fancy skins, but BF1 started the trend of having a special kit with stupid powers... and BF2042 capitalized on that. Levelution is stupid... starting with BF4 of course, scripted destruction is the biggest waste of time. BF5 did destruction the best, very pretty destruction but it didn't level the entire map... plus you could rebuild it. (Rebuilding sorta started with repairing bridges in... BF4?) Behemoths are beyond stupid, rewarding the losing team in BF1... sniper ranges in BF1 rewarding bad Recons... BF1 is the worst. Also (not a complaint about the games but the "fans") Battlefield has never not had a totally fantasy campaign and that's perfectly fine it's a video game, but people seem to complain a lot about BF5's campaign when it literally has the least amount of bullshit in the series, but praise BF1 when it literally has the most bullshit in the series. There is no Battlefield more fake and consistently full of shit than BF1.

People talk down on BF5 still but I don't think these people have given it a chance these past 2 years. It's closer to BF1 and 4 in flow, cohesion and Immersion than 2042. Imagine what we'd have if we kept BF5s attrition system, the crouch sprint, supine stance, wall climbing, explosion knock back, and immersive squad revives. Bf1's atmospheric detail, it's character based story mode, it's style of operations mode mixed with BFV.. BF4's weapon/vehicle diversity and freedom of choice within a classes task and purpose. BF3's map diversity with maps ranging from Caspian and Firestorm to Tehran Highway, Operation 925, and Azab8 Palace. Long comment but 2042 is just missing every IT FACTOR other Bqttlefield games prior had in spades. After MW2 2022 released 2042 feels 5 years too late.

I mean it’s pretty fun to play now and when they finally implement classes properly which I believe they’re doing in the next update or season it’ll feel much more battlefield. The thing that makes it waaayyy worse is when you simply compare it to something like BF4 at the same point after release. BF4 had many times more weapons, maps and was simply a more enjoyable user friendly game. I stand by they should’ve just remastered BF4, all it needs is a movement mechanic upgrade and a slight graphic upgrade

BF4 didn’t have music but it was still atmospheric and had some military realism attributed strictly from the gameplay which is even more amazing. Bf1 music definitely made it better though. Just saying it’s not really the lack of music but the other reasons you stated.

Because it's just a cash grab. Character skins, seasons, battle pass, premiums, their main screen is literally flooded with nonsense and it's just confusing. This game sucks in so many ways compared to the other ones. It looks more like a free to play call of duty than a BF. I just deleted it and downloaded BF4 and started a new character on a new account and it's great.

This exactly why I only play portal now which is sad due to the amount of support there is for portal to behing with. I have a BF3 vs BC2 in which i just balance the vehicles out it between factions. I do the same for BF3 VS Bf2042 in which i limit the operators, weapons and vehicles per facrion for better balance and inmersion. Sadly I rarely see players join in but overall its a really fun experience when i play it. I tweaked the AIs damage to make them more deadly as well as increased the AIs use of vehicles so it makes the matches much more challenging and alive.
