Excellent video! And yes, in general you were very accurate in terms of your overall "Bendemption" & "Reylo" themes. I would love to see you do a followup video to this one talking about what actually did end up transpiring in TROS. As far as the actual Skywalker bloodline being dead, I'm not convinced *at all* that it is. I fully believe that when Ben sacrificed his lifeforce to Rey that he also put a new life in her as well. In blunt terms, I think Ben knocked her up. lol It would make perfect sense and would fit seamlessly into Star Wars folklore. Remember Anakin Skywalker's mother Shmi didn't conceive Anakin the conventional way either. It's perfectly plausible for Ben to have impregnated Rey in much the same manner and would therefore keep the Skywalker bloodline alive. A half Skywalker, half Palpatine child would open up *so* many new and exciting storyline possibilities for Disney to explore down the road!!

Respectfully, and in my opinion, I don't think anyone (well, anyone normal and not a manchild) would mind Reylo at all if the ROMANCE and KISS weren't so forced and pandering. Their connection was way deeper and more interesting and personal to just be ended with a kiss like some cheap teen romance book. Reylo as a concept is excellent and I feel like they could have do it much more justice than they did. :(
@LostInAdagio4 жыл бұрын
One of the glaring issues I have with the "Reylo" community is their harrassment of the actors IRL, documented and testified. Uncool. My second issue with Reylo is that it stems from an incoherent plot. The most involvement I understand they had throughout this entire trilogy, was that Kylo tried several times to seduce her to the Dark Side and failed. Where romance birthed in the time they spent as enemies is far beyond me.
@ACMr2d23 жыл бұрын
@@Echo1Vyr Cheap teen romance! LOL! He transferred his life-force to her. We usually don't see that in cheap teen romances. She gave him a kiss, so what? Why a kiss is related to a cheap teen romance? I thought kisses were ways to also show cheap adult romances! LOL
@ACMr2d23 жыл бұрын
@Lost in Adagio While they were on opposite sides, it didn't birth a romance and a love relationship. What birthed was force connection, soul connection, and attraction. Since when people need to be on the same side and have similar ideas to feel attracted to one another?
@Echo1Vyr3 жыл бұрын
@@ACMr2d2 It wasn't earned. At any point during the trilogy. Maybe if they focused more on Rey's character development we would have had a better story. As is she ended up being a clueless teenager falling for an emotionally unstable edgelord who looks at her creepily (I wonder where I've seen that before). Of the two at least Kylo had character development. Rey gained no development through the trilogy. Zero. And that's sad because her character could have been so much better and their romance could have been much more impactful. God, they're a new "thing" in Star Wars (relatively speaking). How much potential was locked behind that concept of two people being one in the Force? And what did they do with it? They relegated the most impactful moment to the last third of the last movie. Listen, if they (Disney) actually had a plan and made Kylo turn at the end of TLJ instead of the last movie, and then revealed Palpatine and spent the last movie developing Reylo...and then had them fight together against the Sith as they did in the end? I dunno, it might have been better. /sarcasm (hint: It would have been)

Ultimately I'm pretty sure the sequel trilogy will end up the same way the prequels did where there's a group of people who hate it, a group of people who love it based solely on nostalgia since they grew up with it, and a small group of people who really look to the finer details of it and appreciate what it did well. The prequels definitely have their issues but the biggest one for me was the dialogue writing. If they made Anakin's lines tolerable I could get behind him as a character. The issue wasn't Hayden's performance either, he did a great job with what he was given, but his fucking personality is like sandpaper. If you are gonna make an arrogant main character they have to ALSO have likable qualities. The Clone Wars TV series fixed that problem because they gave him likable traits, and expanded on why Anakin ended up having his falling out with the jedi order. The prequels lacked a lot of context for why Anakin made the decisions he did while simultaneously making him the most annoying character in the universe. The sequel trilogy on the other hand hasn't actually suffered these problems. The characters are likable the dialogue is good, so far their character motivations make sense, and the nuances and untold story present throughout the movies - especially in lightsaber combat - are more present than in the prequels. As well as being easier to understand on a first or second watching. So far the movies have been pretty ok in the same way that the empire strikes back is only a really good movie because it's part of a larger plot that spans into RotJ. I feel like a lot of whether this trilogy will be good or bad rides on how they resolve it. If it end in a satisfying way the makes sense this trilogy could be on par with the original. If they fuck it up, it could be worse than the prequels (if you include the TV series in that, nothing is worse than the prequels as they were without their extra context). Anyway there's my 5 AM thoughts nobody asked for. My only real point of contention is the direction they took Luke's character. They REALLY hyped his return and it REALLY wasn't worth it. I get WHY they took his character that way but that doesn't mean I have to be happy they turned everyone's favourite character into a grumpy asshole who then kills himself. I didn't expect him to act like the Legends Comic Luke where he's manipulating black holes and fighting demi-gods but his coolness factor was limited to a 1 minute fight followed be extreme disappointment as I realized we will MAYBE see him a a force ghost at the end of the next movie and that's it. Even RotS Yoda got an extended period where we got to realize how badass he actually was. Oops I was trying to stop and then kept going. oh well HOT TAKE ADDING HAYDEN CHRISTIANSON OVER THE ANAKIN FORCE GHOST AT THE END OF THE RETURN OF THE JEDI IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE LUCAS EDIT BECAUSE IT MAKES SENSE SINCE HE "WAS KILLED BY VADER" IN A PHILOSOPHICAL WAY.

@@liamharper465 from a point of view from a person who didnt know anything abt star wars and watched the movies recently. I dont see anything wrong in prequels (some dialogues were hilariously funny though). The sequels are good too. There's just bunch of useless YT channels and they r just being always toxic about star wars and their movies. (TLJ is NOT horrible movie until you watchit at face value than try going deeper) People are just disappointed that they are not reenacting star wars EU stuff into canon and making canon different than EU in a way.
@liamharper4654 жыл бұрын
@@PlaywiththePlays I think that star wars has become a very philosophical series and the larger audience wants to watch it at face value. It's very difficult to make a movie that can do both well let alone nine of them. The sequels are doing a better job so far. And you're right the prequels are not inherently bad and after years, i actually enjoy them more now. There are two main valid criticisms which I'm gonna throw here so that you get where ppl who dislike the prequels without being rampant haters are coming from. First is that the prequels couldn't properly find an audience. The introduction of jar jar binks suggests that their targeting a younger audience, or trying to make a movie that fans of the originals could take their younger kids to see. This is totally fine, sure it alienated some people who understandably detest jar jars character as for some he can be extremely annoying, but ultimately it's a valid direction to take the movie. The problem arises when half the plot of the movie is negotiations between a Trade Federation and the Republic. As well as many scenes occuring during Senate meetings. Kids don't understand those things which were pivotal to actuately following the plot. Otherwise the movie moves from set piece to set piece and leaves younger viewers behind. Not that they'd care, but it doesn't have a coherent plot for younger viewers and for those who want a more mature an politically oriented plot the more childish aspects can get in the way. It's not that it's bad, but every movie needs an audience and not every movie is for everyone. The only movie I can think of that balances philosophical meaning and a decent casual viewing is Inception. And that movie is rated R. In addition you can't just expect to be able to shit out 9 inception quality movies. The second problem is that Anakins point, why he abandoned the order, wasn't really super clear. Like the whole sith plot takes A LOT of thinking to understand and even then I cant imagine fully getting it without the help of the Clone Wars TV series. I realized just recently that the sith won as soon as they'd forced the Jedi into a prolonged combat. The Jedi were forced to give up their monastic ways and became generals first, peacekeepers second. Anakin grew up in a time of war and would routinely do morally gray things in order to further the war effort, for doing these non Jedi like things he was continually reprimanded and denied a seat on the council. This brilliantly (though not super obviously) comes to a head in the third film where he kills Douku and is looked down upon for it (by all but Palpatine). When he informs Mace Windu that Palpatine is a Sith Lord he's treated like a child. He goes to help Windu anyway and for the first time Anakin gets real character development, he commits himself to the Jedi and says no, we have to take him alive, Anakin learned his lesson from Douku. But then Windu decides to kill Palpatine. OF COURSE ITS OKAY WHEN MACE DOES IT. Here Anakin realizes that the Jedi teachings are lies, there is no ultimate moral standard, and Jedi have always operated in shades of gray, he's simply been punished for acknowledging it. So he turns to the dark side. Which sure killing kids is bad but at this point it's the Jedis fault. This is genius and I love it but it just doesn't come across well in the movie. The pieces are all there but it should be clearer to the audience. For me I feel that the kid oriented parts made me underestimate the movie such that I didnt fully understand it until these last two years. And I've seen that movie hundreds of times, no joke it was the only one I owned on disk in a pre Netflix era. Idk man the prequals are really good. I just wish that more people could enjoy them. They're like Empire Strikes Back Yoda, they seem like a crazy old dude with wack dialogue but their actually super deep and cool.

The only Skywalker of this new generation is Ben Solo. Further, he is the only one of this generation who could be considered as having fallen (by choosing to become Kylo Ren). You can only stand up (rise) after you have fallen down. Ideally, Ben Solo will walk a path that is a reversal of the one that Prequel-Anakin walked. As for Reylo, I've been a "Reylo" fan for three and a half years and I continue with it. Romantic love once tore the galaxy apart by leading to the "damnation" of Anakin Skylwalker. It needs to both atone and have it's honor, value and virtue restored. It must therefore lead to the healing of both two desperateoly lonely souls (Ben and Rey) and the healing of the galaxy at large. Ben and Rey should get the happy ending that Anakin and Padme (and also Han and Leia) did not. They may well make Star Wars films for the next thousand years, but with this one the "Skywalker" family saga is over. They, and we, both need a happy end for it. Ending a forty-two year fairy tale in space with anything but a Happily Ever After would not seem proper. Happily Ever After has been with us since the dawn of telling stories. Why? Because we all have a want in our hearts to be happy and to find peace, versus being miserable and sad.

All I'm going to say right now before I press play is that everything that we have been given not even for the last few days or just the last few weeks of November but for the whole year...no actually since the Force Awakens made it's remarkable, record breaking [And that's not an exaggeration] debut to the world....that's when it happened that's when the stage was set for both and of course none of that would be possible or none of this would be brought to attention had it not been for a small little group of people deep in the fandom that spent some time courageously and tirelessly doing nothing but having a little fun providing some thought provoking analysis , make time to study and refer back old literature, film and other works to see what they have in common with this new trilogy, it's two main stars and uh this little theme called redemption. Yeah that's what they spent their time doing while everyone else had their own thing going on, some spent their time nights and days at length being cranky and taking it out on others...odd. Anyway while facing a lot of adversary , misunderstanding , and endless, insufferable and often pointless quarreling from the inter-webs including social media with folks that often treated them or should I say US as outcasts none of that was enough or strong enough to put a stop in what we were doing , it didn't stop us from making podcasts , having channels dedicated to this and they couldn't keep people like you and Luthien and Emerys in creating, beautiful, well thought out essays and off the cuff, fun and humorous live streams. You don't find a community that comes together this way for not just the love of Ben and Rey but the rest of Star Wars that is built upon pity and chronic negativity. In my view and in my opinion and anyone in this comment thread can disagree with me on this but I believe our love and support for Reylo and Bendemption in some small ways has been quietly helping to heal our fandom because this part of the fandom is filled with nothing but people that truly care and willing to help others and it's why we got some big named channels or podcasts to get to know us and how we even had some incredibly, talented people in the fandom such as Star Wars Origins come to us to help spread the word to support his work for an amazing project he has coming a week before the movie. It's just showing our growth on how far we've come and yet we are still a short 2 1/2 weeks out before we all go see Episode 9 in it's glorious debut. And no matter what the results will come at the end of the film all I'm going to say is that none of this was a waste of time. Even if they don't end up together one way or another love will and always ALWAYS wins but redemption must also win as well. Gosh this was long, I never get tired of this oh and uh Let's take a moment to be eternally blow away by all the incredible artists that have spent endless, long hours with their fan art and music and also why don't we give a standing ovation to Miss Sleemo for working hard to be our go to person with all the new interviews and stuff from the cast and crew we've been getting for some time, thank you dear. Anyway have a great day everyone.

Nice job :-) ! So, this got me thinking: if Reylo is reversed Anidala and we know Padme tragically dies because Anakin couldn t save her, then I guess in TROS injured/dead Rey is revived by redemeed Ben Solo?! It s ok to revive Rey for the sake of Reylo but please Disney don t kill Ben Solo in the process! He is the prince in the story and it is his space fairytale after all. Let the boy ride into the Tatooine sunsets with the girl he loves :-D...

Finally a video where someone isn't hating on Ben/Kylo and Reylo.. SW fan base became so toxic because some people can't accept that people should have the chance to redeem themselves. "Let the past die, kill it if you have to, it's the only way to become what you were meant to be." He did that. Ben did that. He gave up everything he believed in for Rey. He decided to leave everything behind, again, for Rey. They made each other stronger and better people. REY CAN BE A STRONG HEROINE AND STILL HAVE ROMANTIC FEELINGS. EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TRY TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON. And that's the tea.

Thank you, AT-AT! I haven’t read The Force Collector yet but I’m ordering it as soon as I finish typing my comment. 🙂 I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, reverse Anidala began in the opening scene of TFA. It astounds me how some fans can’t see that. It’s beautiful and imho, so filled with hope. Richard E Grant’s description of TRoS is EVERYTHING I’ve been hoping for. I’m here for the fairytale and the happy ending - sprinkled with pew pews, seat gripping space battles, wisened droids and laser sword duels between knights and wizards. I ❤️ STAR WARS!

Well done! This is an awesome overview of bendemption, and honestly, I think bendepmtion and reylo are the only way this trilogy can end. This is the movie where balance is supposed to finally be brought to the force. If either Kylo or Rey die, that cannot happen. If either one of them defeats the other, that cannot happen. The only way balance is brought is if they both balance themselves and unite.

Long shot: Ghost Luke opining that the reason the Jedi failed is because they eschewed all attachment, when it was attachment that saved Darth Vader, defeated Palpatine, and could have saved Ben Solo. The Skywalkers bring balance to the force by founding the new Jedi order with a more human code, with room for love and family.
@hollandfray45214 жыл бұрын
Now if the leaks are right and he dies at the end in the dumbest way, Disney isn't going to have any Star Wars fans left. I hope that doesn't happen and instead we get Kylo, Ben by the end of the film being sentenced to exile for his war crimes, Rey going with him, and then in an end credit scene sometime later show Ben and Rey together with a kid, aka the perfect balance (wraps up the story for now and leaves it open for the next generation of Skywalkers to screw up the balance.)

Whether they get together or not, my hope is that they start a new Force tradition. No, not Grey Jedi, but something quite different, like the Aing-Tii monks or the Fallanassi. The war between Sith and Jedi has wrecked the galaxy time and time again in Legends, Canon, you name it. I think its time to begin another way.
@jonmkl4 жыл бұрын
If the Sith were not destroyed in RoTJ (which the EU was pretty unanimous on) then they have to be after this. If we can get a new status quo, a definitive end to the conflict, and a reformed Jedi order, then this trilogy will have a reason to exist.

What I think a lot of people don't remember is that both Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are different people in essence to Anakin Skywalker and Ben Solo-Skywalker. Actual Ben Solo didn't want to kill his dad, Kylo Ren did. Actual Anakin Skywalker didn't want to kill Padme and Obi-Wan, Vader really did. The Force itself is kind of like a drug, and the dark side is extremely powerful in manipulating your sense of reality, and adhering to a path that makes only sense that pulls on those emotions. Anger, hate, fear, sorrow. And like everything, the force tries to correct itself by swinging to either side like a pendulum, so, it would make sense that it would put two force users together that represent both sides of the force to try to find some semblance of balance, even if for just a bit. And that is why I think the redemption of Ben Solo should happen, cause it narratively fits exactly with what the force strives for. Really love the vid man, looking forward to more!

I think watching this video has successfully upped my excitement for TROS, and I didn’t think that would be possible! Kylo and Rey are two of the greatest characters in Star Wars. The legacy they are apart of and how messed up it has made them both, both projecting out trying to find solace and finally landing on each other, you’re right how does that go any other way?!

My personal opinion is that the best ending would be Bendemption, Reylo and together they have the strength, through love, to defeat Sidious and bring balance to the Force. After 42+ years this is the only upbeat and satisfying ending for our SW Mythological Fairy Tale for 12-year-olds and romantics no matter what their age.

star wars is also about becoming a fully-fledged adult in the right way, a huge part of that message that we in modern western society need to do to accomplish this is learning how to love someone (a romantic partner) in a wholesome and non-toxic way.

I really love The Rise of Skywalker. The only drawback I have...is it all happened way too fast and there wasn't enough of Ben Solo. But I understand there was only so much they could put in the film. And every bit of it satisfied me. I didn't want Ben to die after his redemption and his fight with Rey against the Emperor. But I did understand his death. I would like to know if he is really dead. I don't know. His force ghost was not with Luke and Leia. Maybe there is something to his force ghost needing to be guided. But still, ultimately I cried, I hoorayed, I applauded everything in this film. I loved the emperor..and I loved all the scenes with Kylo/Ben. And that awesome fight between Rey and Kylo. In the scene where Kylo tells the Emperor that he will kill him too as he did with Snoke hinted to me that Kylo was going to turn to the Light of the Force. And Kylo even reaches out to Rey to tell her why the Emperor was looking for her. He warns her. I knew somehow they would be a team. Not for the Darkside but for the Light of the Force. As I saw on Richard E Grants review on his twitter of the premiere in LA of Star Wars, I can say as excitedly that I was so happy and proud of this movie. I love it so very much. Thanks AT-AT Chat. Love your perspectives.

I really felt their connection in the second film. But this last one I just watched was mainly her yelling at Ben because she's angry and lost about her origin story, and afraid of "turning to the dark" so i guess that's why she was constantly physically fighting him. I still don't get why she had to pull the trigger and basically kill him. I just didn't feel the buildup that had happened in the second film, especially when the setting was apparently one year after the second film's, and none of us know if they had even talked during this year through the "random connections" to get to know each other more. I hadn't watched the second film since it had come out 2 years ago, so naturally it felt strange that they kissed at the end when this whole time they just fought - he chased her around to recruit her as his co-leader and she ran away. The ship scene felt like fighting for fighting's sake. No exchanges were made as to why they should fight, they just drew their weapons. Ben's orders was to take her to Palpatine and that's exactly where she was headed so not sure why he showed up at that moment. And it looked like he was about to lay his weapon on Rey until he felt his mother's presence. So some things just didn't add up for me there. I don't even know if Rey knows he gave his life to her (i.e. how he died). Just disappointed that their romance wasn't properly developed in this film, it just felt like the kiss was slapped on to appease the Reylo fan narrative. Anyway I'm still bummed about Ben's death and how Rey went on without really mourning or caring as much as he cared about her --- enough to sacrifice his life.

sad that I just found this channel, your discussion points are interesting and valid, i am not a shipper of reylo and didnt actually want it in TROS but i understand why it was in there, his arc is truly the inverse of anakins however ending in success and less tragic as he saves the life of his loved one (dying in the process) and by doing so...finishing what Anakin started.
