As soon as I saw the title to this video, I said “out loud”....birds bite because that’s how they talk to us humans. They are fed up with some type of behavior that is going on around them, and they’ve had enough. So, that’s how they talk to us, they bite when they need us to really listen! Chomp, chomp on whatever they can get! Our, fingers, heads, arms, etc. Thank you Jamieleigh, another great learning video!👍🏻👍🏻NJ🦜

Yeah half my time is spent un-teaching my rescues that biting is their only option. The quaker parrot I’ve had the longest is getting there, she doesn’t bite much anymore, just song friendly nibbles that I don’t mind too much, and I’m very proud of her.

Maybe you can answer my question I wrote above? How to make your bird use warning signs again before biting after he stopped using them, because you or a previous owner, overlooked them in the past. That's what I missed in this video.

My Indian Ringneck was abused by his previous owners, and I think he only knows biting as a last resort. Though he does often bite when showing positive signs, such as happy vocalizations. How can I unteach him so he knows I’ll listen to his signs? I do my best to respect his space, but sometimes he comes over to me when I’m just sitting nearby and he’ll bite me hard enough for me to bleed.

I have an african grey too. He's a rescue, 14 years old, a plucker and has aggression issues. He never bit me because I always recognize his warnings and the last warning is a loud clicking sound that he does with his beak. If you don't take a step back after this sound you'll probably get bit.

My bird has been biting the back of my neck and it really hurts, and I didn’t understand why. I finally discovered that he found a new mole I didn’t know I had and was “grooming” me. Because of that I’m now going to go get it checked. Thank you for the info about not keeping a space in your home off limits. We have a room that has a giant mirror that we’ve made off limits, and he is OBSESSED with going in there (plus it has a great echo that he loves.) Your talk has prompted me to get a curtain to put over it so we can let him in there

@@Iseeseachelles yah as she's gotten older some of her tenancies can...hurt. Over all she doesn't bite hard but she often bites and regurgitates on my ears if they are visible, and will find my chest or near my arm bit and start softly biting then going harder. She doesn't typically latch though. And if I lean back she will rush my face and start nibbling at my lip, nose, and eyelids and if I dont stop her(I do) she starts trying to regurgitate. She doesn't do this all the time it's just these actions that she starts to. I need to break her of this. I would love her to cuddle not try to eat my face if I lean back @.@;

Question: should I separate my budgies? I’m in the early process of diet conversion (your organic seed mix) and trying to associate myself positively and just really observing my birds but I’ve noticed they don’t really get along and are constantly competing with each other and getting in scuffles... should I give it more time or should they go in separate cages? Sorry for the long question love your content ❤️

I have been doing as much research on parrots and bird care thinking about all the things it takes to own a happier healthy bird I am turning into a bird I do that much research I have been researching for 4 days non stop I research for hours on end .I have been looking at all bird breeds and have found non to fit in my family . My neighbour got a new bird she found her flying around and she was not chipped or anything so they put up flyers and no show up of the owners it's been a few years now and they still have her she is a Bobble yellow headed Amazon parrot and her name is polly she is super friendly .I decided to look into them and do research on them and I think I found the one . I have a big family with 3 siblings and I have 3 dogs a rabbit and tortoise. I have fitted in the time I will be able to spent with each one and the bird sholed get around 3 or 4 hours flying time if good eith being handled I woled probably spend 6 or 5 hours time with it .I have do lots of research on them and I seen that they get very hormonal and aggressive I woled love to know what age they get to that stage at and if I got it older woled it be grown out of that stage??. 🍓🐦

My young cockatiel Lui doesn't bite at all besides a little nip suddenly during head scrittches, and then afterwards he usually asks for more petting. If he bites, the scrittches are over, but this happens alot. What I've done is simply only give pets in little 5-6 second sections and let him ask for more. I also choose when the pets end -before he gets frustrated. We have longer, happier cuddle times this way, but I wish he'd naturally give me some sort of hint of his discomfort before nipping. He's really good at communicating nicely in all other aspects.

Since I bonded more with one of my budgies, often he comes on my arm, while I'm fetching their food and just does little random bites in my skin. Or I'm feeding them and he jumps on my arm or hand an bites here or there and walks on, doing his normal stuff. It's so out of nothing always. Just like, he comes to me, does a bite and check for food or vice versa. I don't know, if he is mad, if I'm not fast enough, to give him something or if the other bird block the feeding bowl/hand, but sometimes I realy can't find any reason and he also does nothing. No signs with his feathers, no sound ... I then actually feel like my skin would be made of millet.

My daughters bird absolutely hates cell phones, cameras, computers. Her bird gets puffy and cocking head if she has her phone to warn her. If she has phone put away but is about 3 or feet near her and she gets a text or a call (any noise from phone) it will literally suddenly bite her. If anyone else has phone it’s ok except for video or phone calls, then the bird gets upset and shows warning signs basically telling us to get that contraption out of the room I’m in. The biggest issue is if anyone records or tries to take a picture there will be no warning signs because he will fly directly at the phone and bite anything that may be holding the phone. Many of times people throw the phone down at which point the phone is severely under attack by Soren. He is a Nansen conure and is the sweetest loving bird except when it comes to technology devices, especially camera devices.

It's also worth noting not all bites are "bites'...for many parrots, especially larger species, thier beak is more than a weapon but a tool...their beaks are prehensile and they use it to grip and climb, this is especially for for birds that can't fly.

Mine may be a rare story but he bit for a different reason... when I rescued him he was stuck in a dirty cage with only 1 perch, kinda like Sunny, and after a bit of target training I let him out of his cage and he walked right to me to step up and when I went to give him a treat he was shaking so bad that he dropped the first one and so I held a treat flat for him and he accidentally bit me trying to get it. He was so scared he couldn't even get the reward. Bad thing is no im afraid to attempt to pick him up. 😒

don't be afraid! he didn't bite YOU (you were just in the way)... he was just trying to get the treat, and was used to bowls and other surfaces he doesn't have to be careful on. try pinching the treat in the tips of your fingers when you offer it to him - it exposes more of the treat, and less of your fingers! maybe use a bigger piece of treat if he still has trouble with it.

I know the whole "ignore the behaviour you don't like" if they do it for entertainment, but bites can be hard to ignore (my birds are small, but it would be a huge problem if it was a big bird because then it would straight up injure you.) They have wooden toys they are shredding, I try to train with them at least once a day, and generally they are close to being tame. Could it be hormonal, since they just 1 year old?

I have since 3 years now a cockatiel named Quicky and he love wired. Especially power cord. I cannot hide every cord that i have because i'm streaming a lot. I dont want him to take a shot of electricity. He listen to me when he want and go out of his cage often. What can i do to make him think that Power cord is not fun but being with me is much better. Thanks for the help.

How about if someone shakes their finger at them when they are in trouble. How to get the parrot to trust the person again? This bird sits on that persons shoulder and talks and kisses the persons face and sits on this persons chest and talks and it’s over all very kind and will step up on the forearm of the person just not stepping up on the persons finger.

I'm worried about my conure. She jumps on my parents shoulders, and sits there for a bit before suddenly biting their ears really hard. I don't know how to teach her to stop, because she wants to sit on everyone's shoulders but also want to bite them aggressively?

We have a cockatiel that rarely bites, but pulls body, beard and head hair. What would be the reason? It’s almost as bad as biting.

My green cheek conure isn't biting out of defensiveness or agression but he starts chewing on my fingers and ears. At first its soft and then he progressively does it hard to where it hurts. How can I stop this behavior?

What to do to stop a quaker parrot from plucking his feathers especially when you have provided him with toys that he can play with and you take him out of his cage at least two times in a day?

Hey if anyone can give me some tips I’d really appreciate it if anyone can help me out. I’m very new to birds and recently rescued a budgie who was a kids bird the kid was terrible to him either ignored him or tortured him constantly like going to the extent of plucking him ect I never saw her do that but just watching her interact with him was very uncomfortable for me to watch I’m so glad the mum let me take him. But I’m having a decent amount of trouble with biting and know that it kinda comes with the territory from what I can tell he’s very comfortable with me and we already have a pretty good bond but there’s times when I just have him perched on my hand and not moving and he seems to remember something terrible that happened and goes ham on my hand. I’ve stopped everything and just watch even though I’m knew to birds I have a lot of experience with different types of animals and believe if something is happening you don’t like it’s not the animals fault but your own. So I’ve watched for signs from him but can’t see anything other than he will frantically look around then bite even though nothing is moving in the room. I’ve come to think he has almost like a form of ptsd but I’m not sure if that’s possible any help will be greatly appreciated

Have you got a good diet and 12 uninterrupted hours sleep (your budgie not you) if you have I highly recommend target training (my birds are so much braver and less fearful now) i think having so much past trauma is going to take a long time to fix it’ll be so worth it though for scary objects just teach him that there not evil or scary (by showing him the thing as far away that his a little bit scared (not too much tho) below him so it’s not towering and rewarding when he shows signs of calm it’s called the power pause technique) You could just give him his favourite treat when he’s on your hand and no where else and after he’s finished take him off before he bites you I hope this helps, thanks for asking I love answering question comments it’s very fun to help, let me know if there’s anything in your your current situation you’d like to change

🤔 One reason I think that was missed is 'jealousy'. I have 2 budgerigars, 1 preferring to perch on my hand and the other comfortable on my shoulder. When I feed the budgie on my shoulder millet, the other bites my hand trying to bring it (back) to him.

So I’m bringing home my 3 month old ringneck spend the last month bonding but she still bites randomly and I believe it’s due to her being a baby still but how do I correct this it’s just when she sits on my hand or if she’s on my shoulder she goes for my ear!?

I recently inherited a 26yo african grey. In the beginning everything was good. But now he bites, very aggressive. I am SURE I have alot to learn. BUT not sure where to start. I work with dogs, horses, cats, snakes and lizards but this body language and animal is completely different . Is he set in his ways? Outside of aggressive behavior. Aggression feels like a me thing to fix. But he came from a very unsocialized past. Never out of the cage except for beak and wing clips.. I have a play area and have been working with him in getting out much more. But wonder if it is too much or too late 🤔

My bird was alone more time we moved too and she seemed more quiet and sad so I thought to get her company. Ever since she saw him she went nuts. At first she seemed exited like she liked him. She was jumping up and down, grooming his feathers etc, but then I saw wings raised her leg too started poking him pushing him with her feet when he came close. Once he went to eat and she literally pushed him and sat in the food and started pushing and throwing the food out with her legs. Then he wouldn't eat and stay very quiet and avoid her. Then she immediately started to bite us. I kept them separate again he was very active and calm, she was too very calm and played with her toys in her cage but now she wont come out or let us go near her cage she raises feathers, raises her leg and bites if I put my hand in I now have them separate again but this time in same room, they see and call each other, if I let their cages open they look for each other and go to each other cages, they spend like 5 minutes happy grooming each other and then my female is all over him and he starts to avoid her and then she starts with the aggression then he want out and if we come close to her she bites. why is this happening? is she territorial, is she hormonal, are they courting like that? should I keep having them separate, in same room or different rooms or I should just let them be together? I dont know what to do with them
