"He's in the office playing Angry Birds." That's hilarious! About 20 years ago, I went to a women's prayer breakfast at a black church. I expected doughnuts, coffee, and bagels after the service. About mid-way through the meeting, I could smell bacon cooking and thought, "what is going on?" So instead of doughnuts, coffee, and bagels, we had bacon, three kinds of sausage, fried chicken, pork chops, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, grits, biscuits, muffins, gravy, fruit, coffee, juice, water, and soft drinks. The tables were so full, they were practically bending in the middle. I had never seen anything like it. The church kitchen was immaculate and those ladies served us with love and kindness. I never forgot it.

*At my old church, it was:* • Sunday School before service (didn't have to go--just a choice) • Welcome • Prayer • Scripture of the Day (no group reciting) • Praise & Worship (3 songs) • Tithe/Offering • Sermon (45-55 mins) • *Praise Break* (occasionally) • Altar Call • Benediction • (If you want, the Fellowship is open for lunch for everyone and groceries to go for low-income families). Service finished after 3-4 hours. *At my new church:* • Welcome • Scripture + Prayer • More Prayer (if the Lord is moving) • Praise + Worship (2-3 songs) • Sermon (30 mins) • Tithe/Offering • Benediction Service finished after 1 hour (my Dad is the Pastor, and that is the biggest difference).

At my church, they say church starts at 1pm so be there on time. We’ll be singing songs and worshipping, and then when it gets to 2pm, one of the ministers wanna come up and talk about “okay I think it’s time to start our service” and I’m like _We haven’t started? What have we been doing?_

I gotta be honest I grew up in a black church and there are many good things about it. But I refuse to be kept anywhere from 4 to 5 hours in a church with people dragging it out just to be doing it. I am glad I am grown now and I choose how long I am gonna be at church. I go to a predominantly white church now and it is done in about hour and half or less. Keep the truth coming. Best, Marvin 😊

This can actually be traced back to slavery. See, back then, slaves worked from sun up to sun down every day,except Sundays. Plantation owners and slave masters gave them Sunday off for church. Since this was the only time a slave could really socialize and talk with other people, they made a whole day out of it. It also shows why black people in general wear their best clothes, it was passed down for generations since it was the only day you were allowed to wear nice clothes.

A praise break is a random point in service where everyone breaks out in praise to God. It usually last about an hour or so. everyone is shouting, falling out and praise dancing until we feel led by the spirit to settle down or pastor reigns us in lol.

@frankfebus75654 жыл бұрын
I would surmise that you spend lots of time watching Super Bowl or long films from Hollywood but to love the things of God, it's too much bother for you. Sounds like you are a snow flake when it comes to worship. Yes there is a lot of filler in church services but if you love the Body you hang out anyhow. I know lots of white churches that love the Spirit and what he can do in our midst. They also take their time with the love of their life because he truly saved them.

- First to arrive at the function usually gets stuck with an odd job / task - Showing up on time looks like you had nothing better to do - People are more glad to see you when you do eventually arrive because they've been stuck with all the lames that showed up on time - You actually did have other shit to do that out-ranked where you were supposed to be 2 hours ago
@scottalbers25184 жыл бұрын
@@Namesi Thanks for letting me know. As white people deal with black people, this probably the single most obvious point of contention. It's not just a myth or racial habit. It's an actual plan. This does make difference.
