I agree with everything you said, Professor. The sport is unwatchable for the layman under current rule sets and there is way too much overlap with judo, whose rules have already been tweaked extensively to try and address this issue (to its detriment). The Olympics has had a negative impact on a number of sports previously and frankly, I don't see what the IOC has to offer to the bjj world in return. I think the future lies in professional no gi tournaments but pajama wrestling is just not going anywhere as far as televised events go. 🤙🏼

Always great to hear from a fellow Luiz Palhares black belt! Hope life is treating you good my friend. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for recognizing that BJJ is a snooze-fest for spectators. Even Archery generates more oohs and aahhs. USADA would indeed mean a whole new tranche of people at the top.

I love training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but cannot stomach watching tournaments. Unless my students are competing in a match rarely will I watch a BJJ match. However, wrestling, Judo and even archery are more entertaining for me.

100% I have been practicing and teaching Judo for over 60 years and saw first hand what the Olympics and international rules have done to it. In the mid-60s the slide into gamesmanship began and now you aren't even allowed to TOUCH you opponent below the belt line while standing. You can get disqualified for trying to strangle or arm-bar while standing. If you drop into a guard position without it being a serious throwing attempt, you get a penalty. It is insane. I think that Judo is a boring spectator sport also. I love the art and system, but matches are only interesting for a few seconds usually.

- Agree with watering down comments and departing from self defense. - Disagree with governing body comments as I believe IBJJF has dominant market share of competitors. - Disagree with lower belts doing leg attacks especially in the gi. Way too dangerous. - I personally love stand up and takedowns and agree it has great application but it’s also a great way to get injured quicker. Most practitioners aren’t training to win a street fight or cage match. Let’s not insist everyone have the same agenda as we do as we teach. Keep the content coming brother!

Honestly be glad its not in the olympics. Nearly every single sport in the olympics turns into a watered down version of itself, especially martial arts, points fighting has turned taekwondo into glorified footsies, and if BJJ get in, itll turn into a joke of a sport where you can steal a point by tickling your opponents toes.

Totally agree! If they make BJJ Olympic, it could turn into a tickle fight instead of a real match! Let’s keep the true spirit alive!

MMA over BJJ in Olympics for sure. BJJ is a horrible sport to watch, unless you do BJJ. It’s not like sprinting or whatever.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu... It's jiu-jitsu. Why do the Brazilians always get credit for what the Japanese created. Don't fool yourself. Jiu-Jitsu is from Japan.

The reason it is referred to as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and not Japanese Jiu Jitsu is there is a clear difference between the evolution of the two styles. Many things are created in various countries of origin and we recognize there are differences. The automobile was not invented in Japan, but we accept that Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc as different than the original automobile or should all cars be referred to as Benz' or German since they were the first?

We dont call it brazilian jiu jitsu back in brazil, just jiu jitsu. Bjj is a name given in the us.
