There is something else that felt off right at the beginning, which is that every character seemed to be un-motivated. The queen was bored and un-invested, the mother bridgerton seemed exhausted from the start to have to deal with two daughters and felt tired in every conversation, Eloise lost her temper and felt flat even though I know it was a wanted change. Even Benedict looks forced to be in every scene and gives annoyed vibes, and his "love story" is coming out of the blue and is quite un interesting. I think the Bridgerton series thrives with the dynamism and the excitment of the story and the characters, and starting with already un-involved characters does not feels as stimulating as before. There was a pacing issue, and the amount of subplots were absolutely ridiculous. Will and Alice overstayed their welcome as their story has no effect on the plot, and the Featherington sister's pregnancy dilemma both come to mind. The main storyline was severely underdeveloped and felt even more so with everything crammed into four episodes.
@popuchick7 ай бұрын
It was 100% fan service to the book fans. This explains the subplots that don't go anywhere, like Pen reading Colin's travel diary, saying she liked it, and it never being mentioned again. They missed a huge opportunity to have Colin be a second narrator and him writing in his diary about his feelings about Penelope (which 1. would be even more faithful to the book, and 2. it would make the rushed 4 episodes make a lot more sense, since the audience would know that Colin had a huge crush on Pen since the beginning). Going back to how this is fan service to the book fans: this season, more than any season, parts of the script dialogue was verbatim the dialogue from the book.

The subplot with the older Featherington sisters trying to get pregnant was so annoying, uninteresting and had no humor at all.

@eb95258 ай бұрын
The pacing was weird to ne initially until I understood that what we are feeling is what Colin is feeling. Shonda/Shondaland says this is how she writes. We feel what the characters feel. And it's brilliant. We feel off because Colin is off. His confidence is false; he is still living to please societal standards. This is the first time we are seeing love from Colin's perspective and it's brilliant. This is his sexual awakening. He is unsure of how Pen feels so he's tentative. Pen is growing in confidence but mourning the hope of being with Colin. We aren't used to her asking for what she wants and then going after it. She also has false bravado but she is tired of being in the shadows so she is pushing past it. And I love it. We are feeling the disjointed feelings othat happens when we are accepting ourselves, falling in love and maturing. That's masterful writing, character development and storytelling.

Which makes sense because there's no reason (from what this part 1 showed us for him to be)... And there's too many unnecessary side stories. You are right, Francesca arch is much better than the main characters and it's going to ruin part 2 also because she is going to be engaged with John Stirling at the same time Penelope will be engaged with Colin so they will have to deal with 2 engagements in the same family... so who are the leads here really?? What do u mean "he wasnt interested in the slightest", he literaly says in episode 1 "I seek you out at every social assembly because I know you will lift my spirits and make me see the world in ways I could not have imagined." he always cared for penelope, maybe not in a romantic way, "you're pen, u do not count" as shes always been in his life as a friend but the kiss has made him see her as a woman, and realize that he doesnt just like her friendship but that he would like more. the kiss offers him a different perspective. However, i do agree more screen time wouldve been nice, thats actualy my main criticism of this season, there were too many side plots, which diluted the polin screentime, but i also see it as a way for colin to further realize his feelings. penelope is always following him around and paying him attention and now that she has to find a husband she cant do that, which makes colin see that he missed her, good old "absence makes the heart grow fonder"

@emilykerbs52268 ай бұрын
bruh Colin and Penelope literally knew each other their entire lives, their relationship is second nature to them. The rush felt natural to me because that's what happens when you skip a step in forming a romantic relationship. They don't need the slowburn buildup because they've spent their entire lives (2 seasons on screen) doing that. Putting an element on Colin's sudden infatuation with Pen is the point, previously to the kiss, he never even considered her to be anything other than "Pen." Colin was just bitch slapped into acknowledging that Pen is a beautiful woman that he's incredibly close to and completely discounting. Colin learned what he was missing. The jealousy starts because he realized that his previous actions have begun to haunt him and he's losing her only after he just realized he had her for all that time. That's why, I feel at least, the progression felt natural. The only thing I didn't like about the arc was the "let me give you lessons" trope because it has been done to hell and back, but it didn't feel unnatural to the characters. This is why people shit on friends to lovers, and I feel that it's a fundamental misunderstanding of the structure of the relationship. Yea, relationships have to start anew in a strictly romantic context, but being friends with someone for that long automatically give you an insight into the person you're with, and once you punch through the friendship wall, the more infatuated you get. Colin is just a dense fuck that's been just attacked by a lifetime's worth of love assaulting him at once. As for why Penelope would like him, I mean, cmon. Colin is a douchebag sometimes, but he still showed care and platonic love to Penelope for their entire lives, just as Penelope was a constant in his life, he's been a constant in hers. She's just not stupid about it.. They also jive with each other's sense of humor and love talking shit about other people sometimes. The aspect of Lady Whistledown is that it's the only side of her she's hidden from him, albiet poorly, which will be it's own batch of hurt feelings, paired with the connection of the person he loves vs hates will be a tough hurdle to climb, plus some moments of her guilt killing her. Which is why I think that plotline needs it's own, dedicated chunk to it to get their relationship to a healthy stage. You cannot expect them to shoehorn the reveal in the last episode or something to maintain the previous structure of the seasons. Also, the other guy (forgot his name lol) being a suitable match for her was also the point. That made everything more unjustifiable and shows just how whipped Colin is for Penelope. I will agree that more screentime would have been nice, but it was not in any way necessary.

He realizes his flippant remark to "the lads" aka bored, snarky, entitled elite men, has deeply humiliated someone he cares for. He says when he apologizes to her that he's got to redeem himself in her eyes. The foundation is there. In 1 season they have to fall in love AND deal with the Whistledown fallout . For real, I had no issue with part 1. I actually keep rewatching it like I did season 2. I don't think Collin has lost his personality, he was just trying to be what everyone expected him to be, but in episode three, he is warring with himself and by ep four he decides to completely shed his persona. Of course, I had a feeling people would have an issue with this couple, I too was skeptical before watching season 3, but I have been completely won over by Polin. I was quite glad that things didn’t drag on so much as in the previous seasons. Not every season must follow the same format and rules. We already know the characters well by now, and were ready to see the next part of the story for them. If Penelope and Colin had taken a whole season to get together, then we would have needed another season for the whole reveal about Lady Whistledown- something I’m not sure I’d have the patience for.

It was done intentionally 😂 if you rewatch the Colin’s confession to Pen in the end, then you’ll notice that Colin says “i tried to be a man a society expects me to be and for a moment I thought I had succeeded. But these past afew weeks have been full of confounding feelings…” . What means is, Colin created a fake personality where he is a charming lad flirting with every girl in the room, cuz Penelope stopped writing to him over the summer. Penelope reminded him of “Home” when he traveled cuz she was one of the only ones who wrote back to him. That home was taken away over the summer break of season 3 from him, so he had more time on his own. That’s why he even managed to travel 12 cities in just a few months. He slept around with women from Brothels cuz he was advised that by Anthony in season 1 when Colin wanted to marry Marina that “maybe I should’ve taken you to a brothel so you don’t propose the first girl you see for”🤷♀️😂 for Colin, Anthony is like a father so he tried to be like Anthony and Benedict. But as soon as he kissed Penelope, his “walls” of fake personality came down, and he realized how stupid it is to pretend to be something you are not. That’s why later on his flirty behavior disappears.

This all makes sense but it is never shown clear enough. We should have had scenes of Colin wondering what the h*** he is doing, second-guessing himself, being unable to have s** with w*****. Instead, we got uncomfortable scenes with a changed man, not with a kind-hearted soul trying to be someone they're not. I do hope his character is truly developed and explained in the second part though, but the first one made me fall in love with Lord Debbing (?) the mature, smart and respectful nature lover, and with Francesca's suitor, shy and understanding and cultured ; certainly not with Colin the new creep.
@sarickacampbell26428 ай бұрын
From the moment I heard that they were going to turn Colin into a rake I knew that they ruined him. And ruined the entire story for me. They should’ve just copied and paste the fanfic because they did it better. The previous show runner said that Colin was the sensitive one because he was raised amongst his sisters 👯♀️ playing dolls 🎀and the age gap between him and his two older brothers. Makes him less likely to be a womanizer like his older brothers. so in season 1 and 2 they were setting Colin up to be a romantic demisexual. Hence why he wouldn’t kiss Marina. Because Penelope and Colin are sentimental writers who document every monumental event in their life’s. We as the romantic fan base were expecting The friends to lover❤️Trope. To be more intimate. A story where Colin and Penelope have their first awakening together. I was hoping that the show would give me an improved version of Odysseus. as Colin. I didn’t like Greek myth Odysseus. I didn’t think he deserved Penelope. I wanted virgin demisexual Colins so bad and I was so pissed when I heard that we weren’t getting him for the TV show. I thought he would be our first demisexual representation, but NO we got another rake. (very original). It’s not like we got that with the past two Male leads, and we’re also getting that with the future male leads. So I guess they just intend to keep telling the same story over and over. The new showrunner (Jess) had all the groundwork to tell a different kind of intimate. Sexual story. With different characters that are different people and it being just as compelling as the sexually liberated and experienced male leads. I had no problem with him being a Showboat, who is charming with a false public image. Him being a virgin erotic writer. Would show that Colin has dichotomy and layers to him like Penelope who is whistledown and people think she’s more mature or older than she is. I specifically only wanted him to be a whore for Penelope. Only Rabbid for Penelope. I wanted her to be his first kiss and first time, especially since we were getting a secondhand proposal. now she gets no first and everything is secondhanded and a hand me down. I guess the new show writer ✍🏻 is sticking with the season 1 and 2 formula thinking that this type of man increases sex appeal but NO! All it did was gross 🤮 me out. The TV 📺 version of Colin. Especially since I know how good it could have been. The story that actually Polin Stan’s write ✍🏻 did a far superior job.
@sarickacampbell26428 ай бұрын
It would’ve been just as spicy 🥵 repressed newly discovering virgins. There is such a thing as horny virgins. The excited exploration. The cute hilarious awkwardness. The wonder of a whole New World unlocked Wasted potential. The fanfic did it better. Colin being a virgin doesn’t automatically make him an idiot. Or simple. Sex isn’t rocket science you don’t need experienced and know how to do it. It’s not some complicated equation and for two people who are best friends could feel safe and trust each-other enough to figure it out, and that would’ve been compelling. if the two teens in blue Lagoon could figure it out on the deserted island. 🏝️ there’s no reason why Colin and Penelope can’t figure it out especially since Colin has the knowledge of the logistics of how it works. The friends to lover audience. Are deeply romantic we don’t want frivolous fucking. This was supposed to be our season. First awakenings are extremely sexy. And there’s so much more special. We were robbed of something beautiful 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 The disgusting mentality of a Rake an insecure man who uses women and their bodies as less so they can feel more. Throwing money at systematically oppressed women for cheap thrills, isn’t sexy it’s not romantic. Only for his soulmate to change him. They didn’t have to make him a Rake to tell the same story of insecurity. I suppose the only admirable thing he did was not talk about sex workers like they were molded pieces of bread to be thrown away. He at least respected their dignity someone want. But his character still ruining for me. And I suppose that fact means he a reformable rake. But why does he reformed mean you learn to not using other people for your own feelings of inadequacy? I honestly won’t ever forgive the for this they ruined this character and the story, for me The worst part is Lord Debling by comparison, a truly secure man 🧍♂️ who stands for his own conviction. Who is truly his own unapology self no matter. How society snares at him. Think him odd. He is who he wants to be. You can actually respect him. And admire him. For a man who stands on his own conviction. That’s truly a man. Colin comes back does the same whoring about the entire time he is teaching Penelope lessons (for weeks apparently) and then kisses her because he feels sorry for her. Ugh that is so gross to me. Then because he is supposedly so despondent over Pen having a suitor, he goes back to fuck some sex workers again. He only gets up enough courage to tell Penelope how he feels once he knows she is getting proposed to. Like he couldn’t call on her, not even once, or bribe her maid again, to see her and explain how he feels. Instead it’s poor me me me me…. I keep asking myself why I should want ShondaColin with Penelope. She deserves sooo much better than him. Ugh…

I must be watching something completely different, pacing felt just fine because Colin and Pen have been close in many scenes prior in season 1&2, so there not starting from scratch. Seemed like close friends finding out they both care for each romantically which has awkwardness. Some of the audience is use to the plot of total strangers meeting and falling in love magically but not the way the love story is awkwardly happening between close friends finding they may want more. Pacing is fine but they probably shouldn't have split it into parts.

I don’t understand how people watching this show can completely miss like important things about these characters. Season one Colin gets with Marina, who tries to trick him into being the father of her child. He’s heartbroken but still hung up on her which is why he goes to see her in season two. And then from that conversation, he still feels rejected and also find himself kind of lost. So he goes away and he comes back with a different persona more like his brothers who are very promiscuous. And he feels that that’s what he needs to do up until he kisses Penelope. And starts to question everything that he’s been doing up until that point which is why at the end of the episode four when his friends confront him, the very friends who he said at the end of season two that he would Never Court Penelope to, are the same ones that he basically tells to get a life. Because he’s matured and he knows what he wants, which is why he goes and gets in between Lord Debling and chases Penelope down. So the character development there comes full circle. But people still are saying that all he lost his charm and all that and the third and it’s like are we watching the same show? 🙄. In addition to that, both leads have a history. Unlike the first two seasons where what drives the lead couples is just lust. whereas this season is a little more complicated considering Penelope is lady whistle down and so she might find herself, in the second half in a really complicated position . I’m actually not upset with how Shonda switched this season up after reading the books. It’s one of my favorite stories so far, but I could definitely understand why she has changed it the way she has so far. When all is said and done, season three will probably be the most interesting season out of all eight. I’m not talking about just the romance aspect. I’m mean in general. .

Exactly my thoughts, idk why these people are acting as they have not seen S1 and S2. Another unpopular opinion of mine is that why is everyone more fond of lord Debling and Penelope. All I see is Lord Debling finds Penelope the most suitable as wife, as for the kind of life he live that's all, he does not love her and neither does pen. On other hand Pen loves Colin and only showed interest in Lord Debling because she wanted to get out of her family house and had no chance with colin. At last Lord Debling is perfect for Pen theoretically, but from the last dancefloor scene, where pen ask about developing love in their relationship in future to lord Debling, he gives a rather disappointing answer to her.

It’s incredibly difficult to put a 450+ novel into eight 1 hour episodes! I actually think the writers have done a good job with it.

My take on the Netflix breaks is that they are trying to do a hybrid thing so they can capitalize on the “water cooler talk” that big weekly (mostly HBO) shows get. You get weekly videos, podcasts, articles etc and audiences continue to build. Breaking it in two gives a bit of that but you also get to binge some. While there are plenty of Netflix shows that excel in the online chatter regardless of dropping all episodes at once but it is a way to keep talking and build up finales.

Everybody in this season is anxious & a wallflower. Pen only got what she wanted once she asked for it.
@kellymartin6488 ай бұрын
I agree with a lot of this video but I still really like it so far. The two part split makes a bit of sense to me bc there are basically two major conflicts/climaxes in the storyline for the season - Penelope and Colin getting together, and Penelope being revealed as Whistledown - so it needs to be paced differently than the first two seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 basically showed us a relationship from start to finish whereas Penelope and Colin have been a slow build since the beginning of the show. I actually got a bit frustrated in the first two seasons bc the conflict of the relationships seemed to drag out. There was too much emotional back and forth/unwillingness to communicate just to make sure the climax/resolution timed up with the end of the season. As for the wait itself, the end of episode four felt like a mid-season cliffhanger, but it wouldn't be much of a cliffhanger if we didn't have to wait to see what happens next. And I definitely don't think it will hinder viewership lol I don't agree with the criticisms that Penelope and Colin don't have anything in common or that his attitude changes abruptly. He started to view her in a different light in season 2. Marina/Lady Crane made him realize how much Penelope cares for him, and he stepped up to protect her when Lord Featherington turned out to be a scammer. However, I don't think they made it very clear that his disinterest in her came from a desire for approval from the townspeople, who in general look down on her and her family. I thought it was interesting that he became a bit of a "rake" during his travels prior to the season, but not that surprising. The men in the main relationships so far have had more experience than their leading ladies and seemed interesting in "corrupting" them in that sense haha. Additionally, Penelope reads the passage from his journal where he muses on the ability to feel simultaneous intimacy and distance, seeming to indicate he is already disinterested in casual sex, which lends more meaning to the swift change in his behavior after their kiss. I also saw Lord Debling as merely a practical match for Penelope, and as a way to balance out her relationship with Colin since she's pined for him for so long and he was caught up on Lady Crane for a bit. All that being said, I think there is plenty of build up in part 1, but since this is my favorite relationship, I am clearly biased lol also it is worth noting I literally just watched seasons 1 and 2 the week before this came out as I recently fell in love with Nicola Coughlan via Derry Girls lol so this is all very fresh in my mind. Lastly a few other things that made this season feel different so far but not all bad in my opinion: (1) less sibling interactions as Daphne is gone and Anthony is barely there, though honestly there's just not enough screen time for all that (2) no Penelope and Eloise therefore less hilarious Eloise moments - though her new friendship has given Cressida some much needed character development (3) Francesca's character has kinda gotten screwed over bc of the previous actress's scheduling conflicts - I'm less invested since she's barely been in the show and now not even a familiar face - but I do like the new actress and her story so far Per usual, a good story and awesome acting wins out. If you read this, bless you LOL I clearly have too much time on my hands

At the end of season one I was excited for Polin as a couple, but most excited for the groveling of Colin. Because season two ends and Penelope felt betrayed by Colin and hurt by the breakup with Eloise. Then in the last scene we see her in a carriage with her walls up. The audience gets a huge gap between season 2 and 3 getting mad for Penelope and hoping that Colin regrets what he said. We get to season three and Penelope almost immediately forgives him and mopes after Colin and Eloise. Then the transformation we have all been waiting for is useless because Penelope isn’t confident in her new skin. And even though Penelope and Lord Debling connection was mutual. It’s still another man who is not sure about her and not all in. Also it looks like the rest of the season Penelope will be begging for forgiveness for lying about everything. Which is granted but still doesn’t sit right with me. This is the first time a plus size woman will be taken seriously in a popular romance show. Where there is no constant jokes about her weight or stereotypical characteristic about her shoving her face all the time. But they have to make her beg for a man attention for the ENTIRE show. I know it makes sense for the plot and the characters or whatever, but would it really hurt to make Colin work for Penelope’s love. For a woman who isn’t the beauty standard to have man want her. Not just for sexual reasons but because he wants all of her. Mind and body.

As someone who has known more than a few Colin-types in my life, I wouldn't say that the pacing for it from a character perspective is too fast. One of Colin's defining traits is his impulsive nature, he gets ideas in his head that he goes full speed ahead without thinking things through, he did that with marina not evenreally knowing anything about her, his travels, and his acting like a rake but not finding satisfaction in that lifestyle , and now with Penelope, proposing when he just found out his feelings for her. Penelope is along for the ride because her crush and the running out of time with her family, but you can see when he grabs her hand after the proposal that she feels jarred, like this is a bit sudden. So right now, it is infatuation rather than love, yes they had childhood friendship, but again just starting to see her in that light and Penn had just put down the rose colored glasses only to have to navigate this new change in him. Their arc is not over. And not just because of whistledown. During the trailer I was thinking debling would be good for her, but in the meat and bones, it wouldn't have worked for the long haul. Penn was thinking it was all about survival at this point because she thought she had to, but love was always important to Penn, the possibility of not having that in a match would suppress her needs and create resentment down the line. I feel he cares for her more as a friend and that is where their compatibility ends. Their goals in marriage are not compatible. It's like if one person wanted kids and the other didn't. You can't force someone to change their minds on that. While Daphne's season made it work for what they could, in real life, most marriages break apart because of that difference. If debling's feelings changed over time during a courting process that is one thing, if Penn was just out for survival and not love, it wouldn't be an issue. But it is.

The way the main relationships build in season 1 and 2 it’s like foreplay, like by the time the couple finally comes together it really was a climax that you wanted to happen so badly. There was such a lack of emotional foreplay between colin and penelope that colin’s slow realization and then the carriage scene didn’t have nearly as much weight as it should have.

To be fair to the series' production and the writers, the Polin relationship in the Briggerton universe which is explored in "Romancing Mr Bridgerton" is a massive deal in the series and a major turning point in the lady whistledown plotline. The book has so many details and plot points that are really hard to cut out because if they did, A. the fans would be mad, B. if they were left out, it wouldn't make sense in the main plotline, and C. it would be hard to drive later dynamics and plotlines in the future. Though if we look at the series as a whole we see those interactions throughout the whole series. but yes if you only watch season 3 part one on its own it wont make sense and you will not understand how their relationship got here

My way of describing this season for me, I don’t picture any of our previous couples on that balloon scene. All their incidents were always connected to their personal problems. Daphne getting in between the dual, risking her life just to save both her brother and the man she loves( but doesn’t know yet). This is the turning point of their relationship, this is where Daphne learns Simon can’t give her children, this is also when they get engaged. Kate and Anthony met by horse riding, they build a connection in the race that so happens to be a horse race. So it would make sense that the moment their feelings crashed, finally coming to the surface (which Daphne had actually warned Anthony about) it’s horse riding. The characters are not only confronting their problems on an emotional level but also a dangerous one that presents real life danger and risk of someone dying. The balloon scene… is just that, the balloon scene. Even the characters brush it off at it was nothing when this is supposed to be the turning point for Pen and Colin. It would’ve been more realistic if pen was put in real life danger, pushing Colin to save her. This would bring Colin flashbacks, how Penelope, someone he loves, was so close to leaving him like his father did when he passed. This a way to further develop the relationship between Edmund and one of his sons, Colin. He would then have dreams of saving Penelope, and those other dreams too, making him realize he loves her more than just a friend. Similar to how Anthony finally decided to be true to himself when Kate was hurt. But no instead we got a lame balloon scene where the main characters don’t even interact after it and another character just uses it as a joke.

It was a missed opportunity, I think viewers would’ve liked to see it in the order it was supposed to be in. Some changes are good, but that was one change that hurt the flow of things. Also, just because something works in a book doesn’t mean it’ll come off the same on screen. I think Francesca carried the season on her back and her character isn’t an ongoing one which is crazy to admit.

Because the build up was in the first two seasons, because this is friends to lovers so the first half is the friends and the flip, the second half is the lovers portion.

Honestly this season wasn't worth it and I would rather stick to my fan fics where the story writing is way better lmfao. I definetly did not expect Colin to become such a rake, it kinda made his character more unlikable to me. I honestly didn't feel much chemistry between them and lol I'm sorrt but there was no passion from Colin's end. The one thing I can certainly say is Nicola is a good actress. And I much preffered John and Francesca's storyline. Imma just stick to my fanfics for now

This season 3 for me is by far the worst… underwhelming..other cast storylines carry this season’s main cast roles..not fully invested in this season..the love scenes with Penelope..had me cringing…just uncomfortable to watch…

I feel like you haven't read the series. Their love story developed very quickly. Because they had waited so long to get together, they got married as quickly as Portia and Violet could arrange it. In fact, Colin proposed before he knew he loved Pen in the books.

Honestly, I couldn't care less for Colin and Penelope, don't like both of them. I only watch this for Francesca's storyline

It's because in the previous seasons we got to watch love grow between the characters. Penelope is already in love with Colin, so her love doesn't grow for him and Colin goes from 10 years of no interest to wanting to marry her on the turn of a dime, so we didn't actually watch love grow for him either. And it's not simply a matter of time, it's a lack of convincing evidence. A romance is an argument of why two people should be together. Francesca and John have way fewer scenes but most of us get the argument being made as to why they are a good match. Part of the reason you feel Debling is a better match is because the show dedicated time to making that argument in a way it didn't for Colin. Besides her wanting him, why should she marry him? The show even makes a pretty good argument as to why she might not be truly in love with him. The Bridgertons represent escape from the life she hates, how do we know she loves Colin or she built him up in her head cause she wants to get away from her family? We don't. They failed to make their argument.

I will be posting this on multiple accounts across social media, so if you see it again, I apologize. This is a cut and paste from a long post I wrote. I liked it for the most part and the acting was so good, but I've read a lot of different posts and from what I am gathering is that a lot of people are disappointed that it fell short. And after decades of reading romance, I have to agree. I felt that if they were going to stray from the book that they give freshly hurt Penelope a successful glow up with internal work on her confidence as well as the outside. She could do this while she was away in the country for the summer with relatives and somewhere away from Portia. In the book, she did the glow up before she saw Colin. Where it could stray is that she had popularity when she got back and had so much interest from men that Colin, after his apology, could help her CHOOSE a husband (like Anthony did with Daphne) out of the many. I would have preferred this rather than to teach her how to be "charming" in the middle of his toxic masculinity phase. Colin was telling her not to care what people thought and she even said she only felt comfortable talking to Debling because she was feeling so low that it allowed her not to care. So she had to feel like complete shit to not care and feel comfortable? THAT WAS NOT CONFIDENCE...that was defeat. Colin said she didn't need lessons. Also, in the show, he said he was giving her lessons because she didn't have a male relative to help her. It would go along the same lines to help her choose a husband...because she didn't have a male relative. They could have met to discuss who was suitable or not because Colin knew these men and could sort them out for her instead of "lessons" of which there were only two? Eventually, after the kiss (brought on by Pen overhearing someone talking about what a turn off bad kissers were and not wanting to be one of them-or something like this), Colin, who lost his mind, would start weeding these other suitors out on purpose, leaving her with almost no one. Hence the carriage scene and proposal could go exactly like it did (loved it and wouldn't change a thing). I was saddened to see that she was so desperate that she was going to marry a man, Debling, who was going to be gone for years at a time and admitted that he loved his work so much that he probably wouldn't be able to love her. Which made her look desperate. And all this after loving someone who didn't love her back for years. Poor Pen. This amazing woman built an empire out of a gossip column before she even came out into society at 16 or 17 and even already had the queen drooling over it when being presented in her first season. Pen teased the Queen on in some of her papers and that could mean death. And she avoided detection by her own family and the Queen's detectives. Even her best friend was fooled for a long time. She has got major lady cajones! Realistically in the Regency period, she wouldn't have even been able to attend all of those balls and parties if she wasn't out in society (neither would Eloise). She would have never had anything to write about. But let's put that aside. Going forward, she somehow, at 16, got enough gossip to be able to write an intriguing column that people wanted to buy, navigated finding a printer, used her pin money for start up cash, negotiated terms, engaged the modiste to avoid detection, mastered distribution and got very rich from her endeavors. This was hard enough for a man to do in those days let alone a teenager. She had to have had quite a bit of confidence in order to even start the paper let alone make it successful before she was even allowed to attend a ball. Even slipping away unchaperoned was a feat in itself. She is the ultimate girl boss. And I don't think that a lot of modern day women watching Bridgerton understand how monumental this was to do pre-technology. Now it's a few taps on our phones and we could have most of this done in a couple of days or even hours. Also, she had enough self awareness to know that she wanted to look better and feel better to find a husband. She knew she wasn't confident talking to men. As the ultimate strategist, I think she would have worked out how to get around that shortcoming. Why not make the glow up epic and inspirational? A fun montage at the beginning of season 3 would have been amazing. I think a huge opportunity was lost to inspire women who may be lacking in confidence (or other things) to improve on themselves both physically and mentally. To make themselves good for themselves. And that with focused attention and practice, they can overcome almost any obstacle. Especially when adversity hits them and they lose their best friend, the man they love in one fell swoop and their family is total crap. They can retreat, lick their wounds, glow up, slay their dragons and come back and slay at life. I wanted to see Pen rise from the ashes. It would have been so fun to watch her be popular after all of her hard work and her genius strategizing. And not to be competing with Cressida over a man. A man that she really didn't want but was settling for. A man that didn't see through Cressida's tricks. A man that acted coldly to Penelope when she made mistakes when she was trying to compete with Cressida at the balloon scene and later at the innovations ball. That was major ick. Also, another thing that was shitty was when Eloise wanted Colin to stay friends with Pen because he was probably the only friend left. How insulting?! If Eloise can hang out with Cressida, why couldn't Penelope have had other friends? This would made Eloise have a little less power over the situation. And Eloise said that looking for a husband wasn't "like Pen." It was Eloise that didn't want a husband, not Pen. Also, I would have loved to see Fife make a play for Pen and for her to reject him while his Toxic Bro Squad laughed at him. And the other two that were dicks to her this season, they could have also shot their shot for her and got humiliated. It would have been another reason that Colin dumped them for trying to horn in on his woman. I am heart-broken that Pen didn't get a real glow up. The Wallflower didn't really get to bloom. She blooms when she gets swept up by the man who finally got his head out of his ass. She bloomed because of a man "teaching/not teaching" her toxic lessons she did not "bloom" of her own accord. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ On a side note, there is also a lot of disappointment that 10 story lines were stuffed in and it didn't feel like they were main characters at all. There were 4 episodes at 50 minutes each. The story lines were: Kanthony, Francesca/Kilmartin/Samadan, Violet/Anderson, Queen/Danbury, the Mondriches, Benedict/Lady Tilly, the Featheringtons, Eloise/Cressida, Cressida/Parents and finally Colin/Pen/Debling. That along with eye candy and filler was a lot to stuff into 3:20 hours. I wanted more of Pen and Colin. In my opinion, for that many story lines, we need at least 1.5 hour-2 hour episodes. I love Shonda and I think she is a genius, but most of the things she has worked on have been series with 20 slow-moving episodes in a season. Having multiple story lines keeps it fresh. With a tiny mini-series like Bridgerton, there is just not enough time with the main characters. We all want more of Pen and Colin (and all of the romantic leads).

Usually the books in the bridgerton series lacks but for once its the book that this season is based on had more depth and understanding as to why Pen and Colin feel for each other. Sure that kiss happened in the book but its because you learn that Colin had a soft spot for her since they were kids cause Violet would also push him to dance with Pen at EVERY ball at least once. There's so much that's missing. I wish they held off the carriage scene for after her identity as Lady whistledown was revealed.

I loved the first two seasons...but in this season literally nothing happened so far... There are too many storylines at the same time, non of them are developed properly so it makes them dull and boring. All characters seem very different all of the sudden without showing us the development that led to the character change. Also, is it just me or are some of the characters super ambiguous to the point you dont really understand what they want?! Francesca was so badly written, i thought the plot twist is going to be that she is really a lesbian because she doesn't really care about the men (now that would have been a plot twist!) - also I've never seen such an one dimensional character, her only interest ist playing the piano and sitting in silence? ... as well as the bar owners their faces are literally 😐😐😐 the whole time. I don't care about their story at all. I dont have high hopes for part 2. Penelope and Colin feel super forced, they have no chemistry whatsoever!!! /:

Perhaps this season should have focused more on Colin's perspective. We've spent two seasons with Penelope and have already seen how much she loves Colin, so it would have been nice to really experience Colin discovering his love for Penelope. I was waiting for that, "I'm realizng now that I've always loved you," moment, but it never really came. Penelope's speech before the kiss genuinely moved me, but that being the catalyst for Colin catching feelings didn't feel right to me, personally. I guess I just needed more from Colin to make up for all of Penelope's pinning. Oh, well. I'm enjoying everyone else's storylines, at least.

im tired of yall hating on this because you fail to understand it. I didn’t think Bridgerton would require a dissertation to understand, but here we are.

We understand but the pacing is off lmao
@eunicepemphelosimukonda64168 ай бұрын
I hate that I somewhat agree with the pacing being off since this was my favourite book in the series. I think the issue was that the series wants to concentrate on the Lady Whistledown drama more than the romance between Colin and Penelope.

Yes true. But the featherringtons carry this season very are quite comical and all their scenes inspire laughter.

I genuinely thought him teaching her charm would make them realize their chemistry for each other and he would have to fight himself to fight for her and right when he comes to his senses he finds out about whistle down. And that would be the challenge

I was confused when they introduced Francesca - was she completely pulled out of the blue or did I miss something in the past seasons?
@bird_in_a_cage27277 ай бұрын
They could've kept the season full length and then had a limited series focusing on the intial half of Francesca's love story (considering how jam packed the book is) like they did for Queen Charlotte. Then had Francesca continue her story in the next season instead of trying to fit everything into 4 episodes

I share the criticism of the love story feeling rushed and lacking chemistry. But there were also some elements which I liked, especially Eloises and Cressidas friendship. I did not expect this but it was surprisingly wholesome.
