Why Can't Humans Drink Seawater?

Seawater (aka Ocean water) is really salty. Why does that prevent humans from drinking it?

Seawater is actually very good as a soup base for cooking. It's also used for making corned beef and cabbage.

What happen if the person is really dehydrated to the point of near death ? The cells are all dried up and having more natrium density. Would that make the cells able to absorb seawater ? The newest case where a man stranded a month at sea surviving on ketchup and garlic, he also said he drink seawater. Now there is only 2 option, call him a liar or research more of this topic. Im sure every seawater research out there is done on healthy person, not near death dehydrated person.

Too complicated. The basic point is that sea water contains more salt than your urine and since salt in your blood makes you pee, replacing that pee with water higher in salt content simply makes you need more fresh water, as your body will work twice as hard to get rid of that huge infusion of salt.
