Another great discussion. I really appreciate you guys talking about these fundamental truths that can be so life changing if we do the work to put them into practice in our lives. 🔥 Change is inevitable, being miserable is optional (I'm still learning this one). Thank you for the work you both put into this podcast (even in the midst of change and challenges). It's worth it.

It is goodness of God that leads to repentance.

The great identifier of a person, maybe especially that of a Christian, is the way we respond to things or people. Our walk with Christ is expressed by our responses to change, circumstances, people, and so on. You highlight a great point too is our response to things we have no control over. Jesus said, who by worrying could add one cubit to his stature? What?! Who by worrying can make themselves taller? Well nobody of course. Christ is teaching, why in the world would you worry about something you have absolutely no control of as if it would make it different. Keep up the good work brothers!

If we lost everything in life there is only One place to go. Any other route would lead to deep despair and even death. Pain and tragedy teaches us this. We need to ask God for His joy in every difficult change we go through.

Meaning to say sovereignty is having all power. It doesn’t mean needing to control. That is a more modern use introduced in NIV of a word not even present in KJV. People choose damnation, not God. They have to dodge His attempts to save them. It is free will that punishes us, not Him. Why does James say to submit ourselves to God and resist the devil if we didn’t have the agency to choose? And why do people visit hospitals if it is God who visited misfortune on them? Are they being rebellious to seek healing? Think it through. Gods ways are higher than ours…they’re better. I hope we can believe in the miracles today. Jesus healed those oppressed by the devil…was he negating the father’s permission? And Job is widely misunderstood. God said to Satan, Job was already in his hands to do what he wanted because of the fall. We gave the devil his power over us. Peter says we know all this world is under the sway of the wicked one. Here is the source of thievery. Steals kills and destroys: the work of the enemy, not God. Why should we attribute evil to Christ? Jesus healed and restored ALL who came to Him. He is the expressed image of the invisible God. Believe today God has GOOD for you. Believe in the blessings of deuteronomy 28 for obedience because Christ was your obedience for you. Please be blessed. What you believe in your heart, so shall you be. Believe in Christ for the goodness he deserves, because he provided it for you.

So I’ve walked the road of exploring what sovereignty means and I have to disagree with the road Justin is exploring. Sovereignty does not mean God manipulated us. Love doesn’t manipulate. He’s all powerful enough to give us some autonomy. He is not the author of evil. He doesn’t punish us with sickness etc. this world and our choices matter. God is willing that no one perish, but people perish. He acts where we receive. Jesus couldn’t do miracles where so much doubt was present. Predestination gets in the way of preaching the gospel. I’m glad to know who saved me didn’t consider me a vessel for dishonor but one who would receive. Love believes all things, hopes all things. We receive faith and what we believe matters. I always will trust Jesus to heal and restore. A good parent will never give sickness to a child. If bad circumstances befall us, it is the enemy. God cares for us. I’ve gone through terrible tragedy and there you see the great dark. And I will maintain, God was not the orchestrator of that, but He was the way out. Let us be channels of His action and not simply saying “He may or may not heal, or help you in the way we want” Jesus is clearly moved by our faith. Why do we make suggest he wasn’t willing. 100% when asked if He was willing, Christ said, I am willing. I am saddened by the modern Calvinist movement which makes us desperate sufferers. May we all see the all things Christ has for us who receive the gift of righteousness.
