There’s a reason why people say that they hate playing league, and STILL have 15 thousand hours on the game

Chasing that high as Poly put it so eloquently. It is little more than being addicted to the high's that League produces that only come once every 10 games or so. Which also explains why it is so frustrating not being able to quit.

My favourite league moment of all time was a match back in s6 where i was dc'd for the first 15 minutes as Vladimir, went on to carry the game and during the last fight of the game my printer sitting in the shelf above my monitor fell on top my arms while i was getting a pentakill, it was very emotional

For me its the champions, so much thought and lore behind every character feels like different legends clashing on the rift. The ability to play thousands games of one champion and still not have mastered them as a whole with very little overlap between their designs.

My favorite league moment was a game where I played Malzahar with the Beezahar skin, and spent the whole game saying bee puns in all chat. 😅 My team and the enemy team joined in, and it just became a really stupid silly match. The chemistry between both sides was great. It's games like that one that keep me playing. 🐝

I think the best thing about league is also what makes it so toxic: anyone can play the game in any way they want to. Lots of games will have different classes of playable characters, but in league every champion can genuinely feel like you're playing a different game. Players can personalize the game to play the way they want to, even different mains of the same champion might be playing completely different games. The issue with this is that on a team you have 5 players with completely different understandings of the game. Very often, trying to reconcile these differences will just not be possible without upsetting someone.

I think the thing I like the most in League is when players interact with each other in a positive way, whether that is complimenting the enemy, joking around with them, basically acknowledging that, even with the stakes at hand, it's still a game and we're all supposed to be having fun! The last game I played was an ARAM and I was getting absolutely DESTROYED by the enemy Pantheon but it was still very fun to play just because of the good vibes that we were projecting. League is a game that can get to be very toxic, but those little fun interactions are golden :)

I’ve managed to finally quit league. What did it for me was vanguard, not because “oh it’s mining your PC” but because I met my first ever scripter my first ARAM game post-vanguard. Slurs and hate symbols and scripting. If they are going to add kernel level software, it better work. That’s what called it for me. I’m now 2 months free of league and have replaced it with other games such as FFXIV and Hunt Showdown.

I quit playing like a year or two ago and I can honestly say that every aspect of my life has gotten better after that. My friend that do play only do like aram and the occasional new game mode. But I feel the points you made can be attributed to any game, without the toxic player base and the hours of playing a game you know you won't win.

As a 12 year player, this perfectly encapsulates how I feel. I love the small intricate moments like vision, map control, itemization, champ specific interactions etc. The possibilities are endless it's awesome. The game feels so weird right now, like you know something is wrong. But don't know what.

honestly one of my favourite parts of League is definitely similar to the first one - but rather than vision plays which interest me, it's unique champion mechanics. I'm a Neeko main, so knowing stuff like: - how her auto attack range changes with champion passive changes - how you can tank turret forEVER with the cannon minion trick - e-flash combos - lane ganking top at 7 minutes into the game bc why the fuck would Neeko be top at 7 minutes into the game - the sheer dopamine hit of a 4-man passive->flash->rocketbelt-ult make the game so exciting, and by far my favourite are the W plays. Sprinting off into the enemy jungle while they chase your clone back to your turret like rabid animals or better yet, getting out really important cooldowns like Mordekaiser ult - even stuff like the 1 emote trick to keep vision in an area for a bit longer. When I feel like I have a thousand and one ways to outplay the enemy, I feel awesome, even if the game ends in a loss. Nothing like seeing the 'defeat' screen while the enemy kassadin screams in all chat about you. Dopamine, bro. ... also I like being a little shit that helps
@cyclocius
@cyclocius Ай бұрын
I felt the same many years ago. I was a jungle main in 2012 and I played for 5 years. I loved the game, I wasn't ever above Gold but I loved playing it. But slowly, the game was getting more and more convoluted. Passives were becoming additional abilities, the meta was being enforced in patches and the mobility in every new release was getting too much to process. I played Nocturne, Fiddlesticks and Skarner. Lee Sin, Leblanc and Fizz were the most mobile heroes in the game and it was a huge part of their identity that they required skill to make them work. You couldn't just run down mid as Fizz and get kills for free, but new heroes were coming out that trumped their mobility and it became the new standard. I felt the game was moving away from what I enjoyed most about it, the macro-level decisions about where I could apply myself for the most value as a Jungler in order to help my team win, not just babysitting a carry. I moved on to Heroes of the Storm, even if it's not getting any official support anymore, it is so focussed on macro level play that even with no dedicated Jungler role, I can still have my Jungler decisions.

My favourite thing in league was when i was doing 1v1s against a friend of mine on different champs, but the best moments in an actual game was definitely when i emoted and danced the whole game with my lane opponent, wholesome moments like these "no attacking eachother pacts" remind me that after all this competitiveness, there's still a person on the other side of the computer just trying to have some fun, just like me. Or even just wholesome game chats, saying "wp" to your laning opponent after a close fight for example. Made me enjoy the game much more and want to play it out even if we're losing

Favorite moment in league was DOOMBOTS, also that Thresh gravity hook game mode, Twisted treeline. All the goated game modes that they won't bring back. Ranked is just chaos, people are looking for ways to throw the games away. The only fun games are close games which are pretty rare now adays, or games where you are the one 1v9'ing the game. Win or lose, 1v9'ing feels great.

it's true that the cool and fun moments are always more memorable than the 0/10 losses. my favorite moment in my time playing league was my very first pentakill. i was queueing up with friends and i was going to play adc but the enemy team picked my champ before me, so i traded with my friend for jgl and went kayn instead. secured the quadra at enemy nexus and their garen respawned just in time for me to be able to get that penta. my friends said they had never heard anybody scream so high pitched before LOL i havent been active in the game anymore ever since vanguard but i did manage to pick up hwei and get to m7 with him before the mastery changes. im not sure if league will ever be as active in my life anymore as it used to be since im aware it ate up so many of my days and so much time i couldve spent doing other things but i will never deny i truly do love it and i know i will come back every few months because there's just always that part of my brain that gets the league itch randomly

Being honest, I stopped playing League right before the launch of the vanguard system and I've never looked back. Played the game since S3 and have never felt rewarded from it in any way, shape or form. All the memories of fun games are overruled by the complete and utter anger and frustration felt a majority of the time. There are so many games that value your time, and your enjoyment. League isn't one of them, I'll stick to watching

The best moment I had playing league was either simply when I play with friends (it's always way more fun) or it's this morning when I had to go at 8:40AM and launched a game at 7:50AM, and that game was the longest and more intense I've ever had. 54.34 minutes. And we won. I could have thrown the game so many times to not be late but I didn't and it was so worth it. It's for games like these I play league, it's to play my favorite champions, it's to have fun with friends. And the one game I get autofilled toplane and have to face a Quinn (or Renekton (I hate Renekton)) will not discourage me from playing. (Cause yes you can get autofilled top (if you're queuing for jungle))

I play league because some of the champions are just incredibly fun to pilot (camille, bard, kindred, zac, Lilia, Janna...) Because it feels good to just be smarter than another human, because it's cathartic, because of those special moments when you are just perfectly in-sinc with another team-mate. There are so many layers to this game that are just satisfying. I don't play much anymore, only a couple of games every few weeks, but it's always a consideration. Favourite moments would be those games when your adc picks Draven, you go Leona, and it's just a perfect vibe and you go 15/2 in lane. At some point you are just in the zone and feel unstoppable. also: that one time I totally outplayed a Samira while playing Vayne by doing a perfectly timed q->flash->e to stun her against the corner of a narrow wall, one frame after her w ran out. extremely satisfying.

Chapter 1 REALLY, REALLY makes us happy as well. And the tethering on display in Deft v Viper's 1v1 is truly eye-candy. The only thing that really ends up getting close to stuff like that in our eyes is fighting games. And fighting games carry a similar novelty... and a similar sentiment and frustration from people who've been around for over a decade and have watched the game(s) change. And what you leave everyone off with is one of the main ways you don't lose your mind. Just try and enjoy the journey no matter the form it takes. And if you can't, that's alright too. New journeys will come up after all.

To be honest, I liked the game. I hated it sometimes when enemy plays broken champions or when my is team kinda bad, but I like to see how I can try to handle those situations and bring out the best outcome. But I stopped playng, because a friend of mine is super toxic and I was actually worried for him if we kept playng the game. So I quitted and he ended up quitting too, since he wouldn't play the game alone. Now he is toxic on PvE games, but at least less toxic than before.

I'll be real, small outplays based around vision and things are some of my favorite type of outplays in mobas as well, and wanting the game to be more structured around those types of plays is what resulted in me going back to play more dota. Trees and variable elevations give so many options for outplaying people with vision, and teleport scrolls give frequent opportunity for any character to utilise these advantages. Add that to the fact that dota abilities feel WAY more impactful and less connected to each other (a lot more characters in league want to use 2-3 of their abilities all at once in the exact same way every game) and i've just been flittering back to dota way more lately.

I personally got fed up with the game as well. I lost the ability to have fun with it. And only played aram for the last 2 and a half years, only playing anything else with friends. I couldn't otherwise. But then aram too became "elite", and so the fun gradually dissappeared there too. I only played whenever my friends did from then on. And finnaly, the last nail in the coffin, the introduction to vanguard. I kind of realized that the best option was to quit then and there. And so I did. One part of me is sad, and that's because I know I will never return, and yet they still wait for me. The other part is happy. I've never realized that the days can be so long when I have nothing to do.

Love this Poly ❤❤❤❤ As a long-running League player myself, there's just nothing compared to League in gameplay & novelty immediately now. DotA? - no dedicated servers Battle Royale? - people care about farming bot accounts over playing the game itself Tactical FPS(CS2, R6 and even VALORANT) - "Try hard" players who refuse to learn tools the game's given Cozy game, Story game, Hi-end Games - The Box price itself is the problem, and I wouldn't want to re-learn pirating games League sits neatly between both the most affordable and the most populated game - regardless of actual playerbase distribution of skill ceilings. Although, it's getting strange - I'm in no way a sweaty High MMR, but my queue times have been Simi to top 5% of the leaderboard players. So, I'm going on a healthy hiatus until that's fixed.

Technically speaking, ranked ladders don't reward skill in isolation. You can be the highest skilled player in the world and remain bronze because you got bad luck for the first 10 games before switching back to grinding normals. Conversely, you can also be a high-ranked player who afk farms in jungle but got paired up with 3 hard stomping lanes every game. As people play more and more games, luck becomes less and less of a factor. But then something else kicks in: time. You only need to win 51 % of your games to climb, as long as you win enough of them. You don't need to be an insane prodigy with 80 % win rate to reach challenger. You just need to play every single day and be slightly better than whatever the matchmaking system throws you against. And that's the weakness. It means you can substitute high win rate with time spent, and people in challenger are almost exclusively people who play league day and night so no one else can compete with their lp gains. This means that, essentially, rank isn't strictly a representation of skill. It's just as much, if not more, a representation of time spent playing. Many people would naturally become better the more they play, but you can play a thousand games and barely improve if you don't want to, and as long as you won 510 of those games, you'd still climb. Just because you become more accustomed to using your keyboard and mouse doesn't mean that'll change your decision making and execution in-game.
@XionTheSylveon
@XionTheSylveon Ай бұрын
Your comment rings pretty damn true. The difference between people who are at the highest ratings like GM - Challenger aren't too massive. There will be things inevitably but the largest factor is the time you put in and the quality of that time. If you wanted to climb all the way to Diamond or even Masters 0 LP, the most important thing you can do is play. If you want to improve in an efficient way, you play a certain number of games regardless of wins or losses each day and take the time to review your games. But just the act of playing is the most important part. And to keep playing.

the reality of ranked is that, the win/lose is the only thing that matters for LP, it does not matter if you win with 0 kill 100 deaths 0 assists or if you lose with 100 kills 0 deaths 100 assists, you still would win or lose roughly the same amount of LP if not exactly the same LP (you can be worse than the average iron in every metric and still gain roughly the same LP). So essentially if you play enough, you would reach higher ranking than you should, if your win rate is slightly higher than 50/50, even if every single game you feed your ass off. Which is the main reason why I hate playing league, especially ranked league. There is no reason for people to try harder if they think that there is no way they'll win cause you are not going to get rewarded for playing well.

I guess my favorite moment in League was when Yone just came out. He was so broken, so powerful... I loved that first game in normal ping after spamming him on the PBE. I even got him to M7 there, so when the time for an actual game came, I just steamrolled EVERYTHING. That feeling of power, that high is unmatched

I love league characters and gameplay, Playing against people I hate in this game, because for every funny dance partner you get, you get a hard inting teemo top who embodies most of the league toxicity sterotypes, oh right and the constant expectation from my friends that the only reason to play is to not only win but for some of them to be the best player in the lobby

I'm honestly not a fan of the way the game evolved over the past few years, but my god I adore the champs I've played for several hundred/thousand hours. I stopped playing this January because I wasn't having fun with the game for an extended amount of time but I really miss playing my champs. Also Bramble Blast slaps

I played thousands of game, now I don't play more than 10 hours per week. I don't find league as toxic just repetitive.. so instead of try harding. I play now for fun, do my best to be in the best form. And avoid chatting unless for info, it made my progress much better, even if I have a bad day I just lose 1 game and call it a day. Reached gm without even trying to be serious. While my peak was platinium when I was spamming league.. I'm so happy to see ppl who r taking league for fun have audience . Such as you pollypuff. Ppl with no clickbait or toxic mentality. I like ratirl in the way he doesn't take the game seriously (or I get that impression from him). But in a way it's just a game. If u make money out of it. It becomes a hobby not a job.

6:22 I've got my adc massively head before 15 minutes. (10-0-2). We killed their bot on repeat and once killed their jug and mid (was always a 2v2 fight as both jug and mid came late and we just cleaned up their 3rd party behavior) BUT of course this is League of Legends, so my top got camped and decided they were going to die to every gank, Jug got invaded top side every time their jug came up and would die 2v1 / 3v2 because top or mid did not rotate. A loss that should have been a win. Now I could have roamed up to help, leaving my adc to fight a 2v1, which when i did one time the enemy adc got the shutdown. So lose lose game.

What i learnt for yself is, that league is as toxic sa you make it yourself. Ofc there are gonan be inters,idiots and etc, but wy would they affect you when you came here to have fun in the game you like? DO your best, or not,have fun and go. If you not having fun, change your mentality about the game or just quit.

i have promised myself to never played it. and i have failed the promise some times, because i made some new friends who play and they dragged me into the internet cafe with them. since we stopped going this january i haven't played. and honestly i don't plan to. however i can't stop watching the game. i have gained such innate understanding of league due to the many many hours of watching that stream highlights and proffesional plays are still cool to me. so yeah straight up i still watch to see rekkles and faker play the game. also chovy is giving a masterclass with the entire geng roster so there is that too. honestly i know that i will not completely give up on league. maybe i will never play again, but that is fine. i have played enough. the game is so interesting that even watching others playing it in high enough elo is great fun.

Sometimes I miss Playing league but its easier to do something else when the game is no longer installed. I stopped playing right before leaving on vacation and when I comeback I was no longer in the grind mindset and just stopped playing. That and prime capsules has stopped and the Vandguard thing which are two more roadblocks for me. And my friends who keeps saying to stop playing xD

Honestly I think we’re drawn back to the game by the chance of randomness and funny interactions from unexpected chaos. Maybe high elo looks like inting because everyone is so skilled they’re all actively trying to 5-head one another. **edit** end result is that everyone just limit testing which looks like inting..

I don't think League is an "un-quittable" game at all. For me the only times I've ever rebounded to League is when I have absolutely nothing else to play and I want something that is engaging and not just a chill game. I love chill games but I also want something that challenges me. Lately I havent been playing League and instead playing a game called Cyber Hook which is like a speedrunning game you want to get the fastest time in each map. As long as I have some game that is engaging and challenging and fills that itch I have zero desire to play league. It used to be SC2 for me but after playing that game for 8~ years I lost my interest after getting low GM.
This skin is amazing
