My take : 1. Sports has less importance here. Studies and getting a job is much more important here. Competition is nasty here. 2. Lack of financial support [From family/government/sponsors] 3. Lack of emotional support [Very little encouragement is given to athletes in Indian families, exceptions are always there though] 4. Lack of Training facility 5. Lack of legit coaches. 6. Lack of market. 7. Overall less popularity. [Don't know -> don't care] 8. No money income. 9. Cricket overshadows all sports. [People tend to go there]

1. Only cricket ( one of the most boring sport excluding T20). 2. No proper nutrition, Dal roti and sabji is not gonna give edge in such a brutal sport. 3. Only and only academics. Either doctor or engineer. 4. Politics and racism. 5. Lack of training facilities and high end coaches. 6. Genetically disadvantage except the north easterns and few haryanvis. 7. No family and emotional support. 8. People doesn't understand any sport other than cricket. Cricket is used as a carrot to make a fool of us by the Britishers. We even gave up on the sport of Lawn tennis because it is hard and needs a lot physical labour. I'm a Hindu myself but only Christianity produces the greatest athlete in the world.

Very informative. If you don't mind kindly make a video on conditioning of Sanda (MMA as well). How many days of bag and pad work required in a week. The importance of sparring and safety requirements during sparring session. Earlier when we were in our 20's safety gears like shin guards and chest guards were not available. Most of the coaches encouraged (missguided??) us to fight without the safety gears to become tough. It is a good sign that people of our generation who now became coach are have atleast more knowledge and awareness in comparison with our previous generation. Now no sand filled heavy bags( which were really bad for the joints) are found in martial arts clubs. They have good quality heavy bags and pads for training. However still most of them are lacking at sparring because there is always a danger of getting hurt. So, a proper tutorial and guidance on sparring will be very helpful.

Really good analysis. India really has potential. The worlds greatest wrestler in history was Indian, and Pehlwani/Kushti is a very popular sport and having a wrestling background is one of the best specializations in MMA. Look at Khabib Nurmagomedov, he spent most of his life training in wrestling and only started to add striking and ground game only some months before his MMA debut in Russia. He got better as he progressed in MMA and yet he mainly used his wrestling for most of his matches. Cain Velasquez, GSP, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Cormier all are fighters with wrestling backgrounds. Although boxing is not as culturally intertwined as wrestling is in India, Indians have proven time and time again that they can meet the competition in that field as well. With so much potential Indians can definitely compete in the UFC if real practical combat based martial arts are facilitated and promoted.

Well Indian fighters do need to step up to the challenge because there are good wrestler and fighters like Sushil Kumar and others. But it won’t be that easy as I do see them getting knocked out first then they will learn from it and get better. The Russian and South American fighters can be tough challenge

There are Indian combat sport athletes who are pretty good, but MMA's popularity in India is relatively new, so even if there are some high level athletes, they might not be at the absolute top level yet because of lack of training time. Then like you mentioned, sports are barely promoted in India, over academics, so even if a child is athletically gifted, they don't have that support and hence don't have that advantage of having athletic training since they were very young, and another factor is popularity of other sports that overshadow combat sports. However, I would disagree with Indian viewers not being interested in something with such amount of violence and brutality because of how popular pro wrestling is in India (even if the combat there is fake).

Common public doesn't understand the basics of fight science. They actually think someone can beat 10 ppl just coz he learns martial arts, they take defense techniques by Bollywood actors seriously. They don't understand fight sports is cognitive based learning that involved skills, endurance and instincts. Besides, the kind of training fighters in UFC undergoes is seems far in India so far.

Only if he posted more action videos rather than talking. This is fight channel, not talk show. He should show more sparring, fighting, training instead. Wear open hand gloves, not boxing gloves with thumbs sticking out with all fingers wrapped. There's no Indian in UFC mainly because they didn't participate in international match and qualify. There are few fighters in lower ranking competition such as OneFC & that's it. They didn't fight in British, Russia, China, Korea organised MMA matches

@@struggleisstrength9856 there aren't many fighting competition in India. Sanda, Karate, Taekwondo or local kalari payattu, silambam competition. There's hardly any kickboxing with sanda being the closest. Unless he gets to fight in China KLF (Kunlun Fight) or WLF (Wulin Feng), Korea Road FC or Singapore OneFC which not easy for him. The only way for Shakil to gain global attention is to start controversial fight against other martial arts schools like Xu Xiao Dong. Xu Xiao Dong himself is a fraud but he pulled it well where fight organiser paid him higher than WLF & KLF top fighters for single match due to very high numbers of viewers.

its not just market, its talent also, if UFC gets the right talent theyll promote the crap out of it, but according to their business model, they need the right product/regional talent before entering into a market. Now there was alot of hype when bharat Khandare made his debut against Song Yadong, we all knew that this would be the guy who could carry the indian flag in the UFC but he utterly failed unfortunately. Even Arjan Bhullar who was doing well decided to go for the easier path with ONE FC. Honestly its just a huge market to tap into for the UFC and it will take some time. But I remember Dana saying 4-5 years ago that hes gonna make sure Russia & China become major UFC markets and he held his word. At some point the Indian subcontinent will become UFCs next major target
