my theory: Travis was an orphan growing up. He said in the movie that loneliness has followed him his entire life. my theory is that he doesn't have any parents or friends growing up because he was and is a strange person. That's how he's so akwerd on his date with betsy. Because he never learned how to socialize. But, he always wanted parents. That's why he has imaginary parents and why he "can't remember his parents anniversary". And the reason he wanted to "clean the city" was to "make his parents proud". Once he got the letter from the parents of Iris his satisfaction was completed. He felt like he was approved by parental figures. And I think that that stoped his homocidal feelings as well.

I’m lost in life and somehow have a gf. I can tell you that it’s about how you look at life and what you live by that has an outlook and effect on people. Especially me being a nihilist. Last year I was an extremely pessimistic person because of it. I got to a point where I literally didn’t care about anything. I don’t want to hurt people and I don’t want to be hurt. So I though the simplest way to get by was to hurt myself until I made a firm decision to end it all. I know life is random. One day in my negative life I was just tired of how shitty I felt all the time. I got some help. I got a new hobby. And despite where I was in life I realized life isn’t a race. Even if you put years into something and feel like it was all a waist. That’s just the gamble of life. You just gotta look at it in a positive way. You have to love yourself and be okay with the mistakes you make. When I started thinking that way I didn’t realize I was communicating differently with people where they were drawn to me. I eventually got a gf. But that’s not the point of life. I still know that someday they might leave or they might die, anything can happen. I don’t want to be in a position where I feel like another person makes me feel whole in life. That’s not the point of it. You just have to love yourself no matter what happens. You have to be okay with how random life can be.
