I've had my Canon R since 2019, and each time I consider upgrading, I choose not to. Simply put, it's a great camera. I choose to spend the money on glass as Amanda advises. One item, that has completely blown my mind. "Durability" It once dropped from my backpack and landed on a hard surface. The lens hood and battery flew off. I believed it to be a goner. Surprisingly, only the lens hood was damaged.

Glad to hear it. I've had the EOS R for a year and a half and it's the best camera for me. Rather than buying an R5, it is better to invest in RF lenses. I myself own RF 15-35 f2.8, RF 70-200 f4 and my favorite RF 24-105 F4.
@markburns993 Жыл бұрын
I too have the R but haven't bought an RF lens yet. The EF lenses work great on the R and my EF-RF control ring adapter. I prefer the control ring closer to the body on the adapter and use it for either ISO or EV adjustment in manual mode. I use the EF 24-70/4L-IS and the Tamron 35-150/2.8-4-VC as my favorite lenses along with the EF 100-400IIL/4.5-5.6-IS for backyard birds. I share the 100-400 with my APSC 90D for most wildlife. I do plan to add the R7 later. But the EF lenses are such a bargain now!

So tempting for a FF. We would use a lot in video and somewhat torn given the significant crop. Lots of folks say the 1080 is so good that you can simply upgrade it to 4K with good results. Thanks for the video!

Great video, I've just traded a medium format 2021 Fujifilm GFX 50sii camera and lenses for the Canon R , put £4000 back in my bank and returned to the Canon full frame set up! Loving it's versatility and it gives me a warm feeling inside knowing the depreciation is so low compared to the MF system.

Good evening, Does it make much difference in image quality between them for studio photography?
@antoniobalonio8442 Жыл бұрын
@@felipecastro8668 Most of my photography is outdoors so I am probably not the best person to advise on that. The MF files are large and very detailed so my feeling would be that the studio set up would produce amazingly sharp and detailed images that would out perform pretty much any full frame camera. Where you benefit with MF is file sizes are big. But most photographers can happily produce great quality images for a lifetime using FF cameras. The R is a great quality FF camera at an excellent price point and I am sure would hold its own in any studio with the right lens attached. And of course you get the unrivalled Canon colours!

I see the lack of IBIS as a feature. I do not want the camera making incorrect stabilisation decisions while I am moving the frame. The R6 used to do this to me and destroyed gigs of footage. I don’t want to even think about changing modes because the action changes. IBIS is great for getting a locked off look when hand held or when pointing the camera at yourself. But it’s been a shocker for me when I want to grab and record. I had people leap 6 feet in one frame because the camera decided they should be in the centre while panning. I have stabilised lenses but you can’t switch off the IBIS and just use the lens stabilisation. Stabilisation in the edit is really amazing these days. I sold the R6. So no IBIS? Bonus!
@jeffmsc16 күн бұрын
Right on, I really dont trust IBIS. I bought the R because it doesn't have IBIS.
@inSurfersParadise16 күн бұрын
@@jeffmsc I'm sure the super tech in these cameras is helping some filmmakers do incredible things. The tech is amazing. But I am not interested in 5 minute takes of a dog running in a yard. 99% of what I shoot does not require hero camera moves. Just keep it steady and react to the frame. Shoot in bursts. Build scenes from different view points. Edit with the camera. I might be off trend here, but like you, I'm hunting for zero IBIS.

Interesting video. I've had an R for three years and it has been great. I use it mostly for photography (landscapes, people and general 'stuff'). It is not an action camera. 1080p output is great, as is the 4K timelapse mode. Just a question of understanding strengths and weaknesses and fitting in with your requirements.

I;m still using the trusted EOS 5D iii is it worthwhile to switch to EOS R ?
@thirstyvagabond329 Жыл бұрын
I did. To have a second camera to match C300ii because of the 4k and video DPAF autofocus which is very good. For that purpose the R is way better than 5D. The touch screen is very useful, especially for focus pulls and as it's mirrorless, no more 'chimping' if you use viewfinder which is also excellent. I use Atomos for 10bit 422 which matches the C300 nicely and the crop 4k is close to the S35 C300. A friend borrowed the R for a pro photo shoot (he used to borrow my 5Diii) and said it's way better for photography too, using my EF lenses and his Zeiss primes. I sold the 5D so paid in $500. Well worth it.

Love the camera but unfortunately found the weather sealing unreliable. When I took it out in a moderate rain (with an L lens), somehow water seeped into the flap for the grip. I don't use grips nor had I opened that cover. Canon told me the warranty was voided and estimated $1200 cad.. ouch!. So the moral of the tale is....great camera that needs protection. I had been spoiled by other camera's weather sealing. Glad it has served you well.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I just grabbed an EOS R for 1,070 USD! It was a cancelled special order that's been sitting in the store room since 2018. I was going to hire an R5C for a job, but this purchase didn't cost too much more than the rental fee. What SD cards do you use? I've found that Lexar V60, 1800, UHS-II have been massively discounted recently. I'll mostly likely shoot in 1080 most of the time, but I'd like to get the best 4k onto the card, when I do use it. Are V60 cards to the challenge or V90 UHS-II cards critical? Is the difference between 8 bit and 10 bit dramatic, or is it something that you notice only when really analysing the output? I'm originally from Baltimore and it's always funny to me when I hear the same pronunciation as my way of saying the letter "O, from aaaall the way in the FNA (Far North America). Cheers!

IBIS is severely overrated. They ditched it in the R5C. It’s not in the BMPCC cameras. It was a big negative in the R6 I owned and sold. I'm happy the R doesn’t have it. Keep the sensor solidly mounted, use stabilised lenses, steady the camera and do the last bit in software. Having the sensor moving around caused me more gotchas than I thought possible. The R6 didn't allow me to just go with the lens stabilisation. I sold it. Its why I'm here looking at this video. Thanks for the great info.

I would say the sony a7 III is a better choice across the board in that price range. Better dynamic range, low light perfomance, ibs, and great for video too. I personally also prefer the e mount ecosystem over the rf ecosystem because the price hikes from ef to rf are silly and canon insists on keeping out third parties.

I agree with you; except for the fragile construction of the A7III. The Canon EOS R is very well built. I didn't have the courage to buy the A7III for fear of breaking it and in Brazil there is no Sony technical assistance. Here Canon is sovereign. 99% use Canon.
