I don't know, it still seems like a big gamble. If the power unit is key and Williams are able to be near the sharp end again, they'll need to prevent themselves falling back like they did after 2014. On the other hand, if Mercedes get the power unit wrong, they'll still be stuck. And do we really want a repeat of 2014 in which one power unit had a big advantage over the rest most of the time? If that happens it'll be like we're all going round in circles.

As an American I’m actually very proud that Logan represented us in F1. He handled all the ups and downs with absolute grace. It’s unfortunate that he was driving for a team 20 years behind the times, put all its stock in one driver and doesn’t have a great car. The embarrassment is on Williams and how they let themselves decay so badly.

Ultimately, a company is only worth what someone is actually willing to pay for it. Sure, Williams may be worth $1B or so, but is there anyone out there willing to pay it? Andretti's arguably the most serious about wanting in to F1, and they aren't willing to pay it. Waiting for the balloon to pop.
@LawVS5 ай бұрын
That's very true. Their values does not equate a transaction.
@marksutherlandjr.21215 ай бұрын
@@LawVS I would argue that it DOES lend credibility to the point being made though. That the team is on a trajectory that isn't usual for a team that was just bought by a private investment firm. They have clearly turned a corner snd are of more value today than they were when they were purchased. As a new racing Fan I'm not privy to the storied history of Williams. I know what I've read, but I'm curious why so many people would upvote a comment about waiting for a team's balloon to pop, instead of championing their success and wishing for the best for them. Is their an angle I'm missing as a new Fan? Just seems pessimistic.
@MatheusC17295 ай бұрын
Depends. That's always the case for any stock listed in the market. Is anyone willing to pay $3.2T for Microsoft? Nope. But arguably Williams could raise a minority investment near this valuation. Renault raised from some Hollywood starts a couple of years ago at a $750M pre-money.
@frankbieser5 ай бұрын
@@MatheusC1729 Yeah, and proving to be a poor investment. ;-) Yes, the valuation could help to bring in a lot of money from minority investors, and they can use that to help borrow money for cash flow purposes (though I'm not sure F-1 teams operate that way). But those who bought teams as an investment will never see a return until the team is sold. As soon as F1 exits it's current "fad" phase, those valuations will plummet. DTS has seen a consistent drop in viewers for 2 years, and given FOM's determination to keep Andretti out, and the declining global GDP, those who would buy in at today's prices will lose money.

currently Bottas' problems are the car and Sauber's strategy. He has qualified ahead of Zhou in all normal qualis and once in the 2 sprint qualis. He also qualified 0.5s ahead of Zhou in Monaco, but due to the car's performance it was still only P19. In some of the races he would have finished at least near the points, but unfortunately the lap 1 turn 1 crash in Bahrain, the Strategy in Australia and Japan and the engine blowing up in China means he's behind Zhou in the WDC. In Australia, Japan and China without those problems he would have most likely finished in the points and based on Zhou's p11 in Bahrain, Bottas could have probably been in the fight for points. So it's not Bottas' fault that his performances are bad, he just can't show it in the car he's in.

Bingo again on the analysis. I have been saying since the beginning of this silly season of driver roulette that familiarity will be the key to the future. Personality clashes do no one any good, especially when trying to sort out a car…thus no Sainz to Red Bull, and the whole Gasly/Ocon mess. So from that standpoint, Max/Checo works; Yuki/Daniel works; and I think Alex/Valterri works as well. No noise is good. As to Logan, he’s a nice guy, but he really doesn’t handle pressure well…when he gets behind he over compensates and wrecks. So he goes away, but maybe he winds up at Haas, as he is American, and Gene might like that. And he will be cheap, which Gene also likes. 👍 I’m going to support Williams now, and hoping that they wind up with Bottas. I’m a Mercedes guy, but I like an underdog story as well. Vowels has been super transparent in all of his statements, and that’s a big deal…shows how he must be with his team as well. Good on him, and good luck to Williams!!!😁🤙

I'd suspect that Audi might be looking to snap up either Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, maybe George Russell or Alex Albon when either of them becomes available by 2027. And if he chooses them, Sainz might fall in the same situation he was in twice - first in Renault when he got replaced by Daniel Ricciardo and now with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. If he signs with Audi, there's no guarantee that they won't dump him if a driver like Norris, Piastri, Russell, Albon or as a wildcard Alonso (at both Renault and Ferrari Sainz gets replaced by an older driver - imagine if he gets ousted by the much much older Señor El Plan) becomes available on the market in 2027.

Well, i've become a CS fan , i see the guy trying and he has very good qualities and yes he could even challenge for a title if the car is fitting him (yes... this is major thing in F1, you don't exactly need the best car... you need the best car for you). However, by the current status quo... he is not a priority , he won't be a priority for any big team because they already have their hands full. Williams is a good option though. I have a feeling that after the new regulations they will go up a lot. RB is about to fall .... mostly depends on Newey and if Newey goes anywhere else (like Williams) you have a winner team right there....he is just that good. Ferrari did a TRAGIC mistake leaving him out...And i'm a Ferrari fan for as long as i remember myself . Not saying that LH suddenly forgot how to drive and he will be bad in Ferrari etc , but let's be honest... LH won't work without a strong car. What i've seen in his times of dominance is... that is he is the guy to make the top car...topper!! he really can find things ...past their limit and he is unique in that department. BUT... if he doesn't have the tool... he just won't bother...And let's be honest, he has nothing to prove, he is already in history books...and as much as i'm not his fan at all...we have to respect that. On the other hand Carlos has the hunger, he IS IN the team , he WANTS to be in , he loves what he does, he gives solutions, he works like a maniac , he is a team player (LH is not). LH has a year or 2 (practically is either he gets the title or he goes) and CS could really be there...forever.

I don’t get the criticism in the press and on social media… James Vowles has been very clear and transparent regarding his plans for Williams in the near future. Flashback to a year ago when he discussed these plans, he was heralded as a genius. Now those plans are being executed, with results on par with expectations set by Vowles. Sure, Williams started with only two chassis, but they certainly weren’t the only one. But suddenly he’s a bad team principal and probably axed at the end of the year? Give me a break. Seriously, this kind of criticism starts to irritate me, because it not only shows a lack of knowledge of how organizations are run but also of Formula One proper. The way I see it, Williams has a good chance to be where McLaren is now in the 2026 season - and that would be an impressive achievement! Audi… I wish them all the best, but I have serious Toyota and BMW vibes with that operation. The difference is passion… Vowles is an inspiring leader (go and listen to the Beyond the Grid and High Performance podcasts, heck; watch the vlogs Williams releases every race). Audi is corporate and Formula One success can’t be bought outright because of the cost cap, contrary to their Le Mans entries where they were literally a class of their own (just like Toyota in the years after they left). The Sainz family knows Audi. The fact that Carlos hasn’t been announced at Audi speaks volumes to me. As for his next step… Ideally McLaren, but those seats are filled (I hope those couple of victories at Ferrari were worth it). Mercedes has learned from losing Verstappen, so that’s Antonelli replacing Lewis from ‘25 onwards. That leaves Williams and I agree, that’s not at bad option with Mercedes power. We’ll know in ‘27 if Carlos made the right decision.

A crazy idea for the bookies. Bottas to Mercedes for a last ride. An unfinished business if you may. If he only has one tranfer left in him, why not to Mercedes, to prove that he could have been more than the wingman had anyone other than Hamilton was in that other car?
