In my mind, Dexter has always been the mascot of Cartoon Network. CN's website had him as its icon in the 90s/early 00s. And Dexter's angular design along with his white lab coat and black shoes matched CN's original logo really well, which was black and white and rectangular. Even long after the channel stopped airing Dexter's Laboratory, I still considered him the mascot. I mean, Disney doesn't have to make more Mickey Mouse cartoons, or air Mickey Mouse on Disney Channel for you to know that Mickey is the mascot of Disney Channel. Like Mickey, Dexter came and made his mark, and the CN logo will always echo Dexter for me, just like how the mouse-head silhouette from Disney will always echo Mickey.

My guess is that CN didn't want to bother having one after a few attempts and rather let the characters and shows speak for themselves...... Disney Channel is part of the larger Disney fold, hence Mickey was bound to represent the channel in some way or form while Nickelodeon homegrown pretty much everything and naturally let the decision fall onto how things fold out.... CN however is interesting as even before Moxie, they had that Jester character that appeared in certain promotional materials and bumps but never caught on.

For Adult Swim's mascot, it often jumbles between Shake, Space Ghost or Rick. For Shake, there were a handful of AS bumpers that involved him bickering about what's on his mind. (What Would I Do For Cash, Shake's Perfect Day, and Love Song are three that come to mind.) He also had a walk around costume seen in bumpers and also appeared at the Colon Movie premiere, so I'd say he's the closest. Space Ghost was the first AS show and practically the godfather of the block, plus made a few appearances in other AS shows. (ATHF, Brak Show, Perfect Hair Forever) It would make sense for him to be the block's mascot, but the one thing halting this is because the show is actually very niche. For Rick, he's a definite answer since R&M is the most popular show on the block. He's the first character that comes to mind when you think AS, and has enough merchandise to fill the masses.

In my heart it will always be the Cartoon Cartoons, even if they aren't the big thing now. But not exactly just one of them, more of a hierarchy or protagonist lineup of sorts, like how Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, the bumpers, and FusionFall did it. Dexter, Dee Dee, and the PowerPuff Girls are at the very front, even if it's not _just_ them like I said. They're endearingly adorable, badass heroes, as well as funny and relatable when it comes to who they are as people. Not to mention, the two are already canonically in the same universe, so it makes sense that they're tied-for-first. Ed Edd and Eddy(my personal favorites alongside Dexter) are the outsiders, who aren't really heroes at all, but aren't villains either. They kind of serve the same purpose they do in their own show, only in crossovers and the mascot lineup, they aren't ostracized and aren't constantly getting karmic misfortunes thrashed upon them. Eddy in particular acts as the channel's big anti-hero; Fitting that Ed and Edd also act as his brawn-and-brains henchmen/sidekick duo role-wise, though they're more even and mutual with him than other examples of the trope. Johnny Bravo is the all-rounder wild-card type. Besides the whole incel thing, the other major part of his show's whole appeal is that he can be in any situation and he'll still act like himself, which I'd say is part of what makes a mascot work. Though, I find it odd how he's usually the only one from his show who's ever featured, even more than Courage is. Like, at least include Bunny, Carl, Pops or Suzy _sometimes,_ come on! Courage is the heart, underdog, and the literal dog. While he also does exceptional heroic things, of course, he doesn't solve those issues like superheroes do; he often just has to save his owners, not the whole world, and obviously he's often scared of what he's up against(he's brave, just not fearless; those are really two vastly different attributes). In particular, I've always appreciated how he almost never kills or otherwise 'defeats' anything that threatens him, and tries to instead be constructive and pacifist whenever he can, like outsmarting them, beating them at a competition or sorting out any deep-rooted issues that caused them to act the way they did. He's just a good guy, and also an adorable anthropomorphic dog, it's great. Grim, Billy and Mandy are kind of like the CC equivalent to Ashley in WarioWare, or Invader Zim in Nickelodeon's lineup. The show that has horror elements, but isn't horror like Courage is. That awesome, spooky, I guess "Tumblr/Hot Topic aesthetic" style. Cynical and snarky, in that likeable way. Except for Billy, he's just... Billy. Samurai Jack is the serious, no-nonsense one. Quiet, calculated, and gets things done. Also may or may not be Professor Utonium's alternate universe counterpart with a sword. Also Cow, Chicken, Weasel, and I.R. Baboon are there, too, I guess. I like Weasel, at least, especially his voice and attitude. But I'll still say I think they're pretty overhated in terms of general fan feedback, I'd say. (Plus, don't kill me, but I actually like them more than Ren & Stimpy. And hey, least _their_ creator isn't a creepy, horrible bastard!) I even like the less popular ones of the lineup, like Time Squad, Mike Lu & Og, and Sheep in the Big City. I think they're underrated gems. The real practical mascot is really Gumball, Finn and Jake, C & N, the Noods/Toonix, or PowerPuffs and Dexter alone though, regardless of my own preference. I just wanted an excuse to talk about how much I love the Cartoon Cartoons as a lineup ensemble, really.

This was genuinely one of my favorite comments I’ve read on the channel. There’s so much to unpack, you descriptions for the role you think every character played in being the driving force of the network perfectly explains the essence of the network. Every cartoon had a major play in the networks popularity, while not every cartoon was the most popular, they were all important and anyone could make solid cases for any one of them to be the mascot. But I think Cartoon Network and its characters as a community are the heart of the network, all of them together make Cartoon Network what it is. Unlike SpongeBob for Nickelodeon. I actually recently made a video for cartoon cartoon Fridays I recommend checking out, but there’s something about every cartoon cartoon lifting each other up that makes Cartoon Network itself so special. Great comment!

I actually like the idea of having each decade era of CN having its own mascot. For 90s, I think The Powerpuff Girls would be a good fit. For the 2000s (as a whole), I would choose Ben 10, for the 2010s, I would pick Adventure Time, and for the 2020s I would choose Craig of the Creek.

@@Childishju me too. And while the show came out in 2018, I’d argue that it really started to boost in popularity and honestly carried CN throughout most of the 2020/current decade. I know Teen Titans Go is a popular show on the network but I argue that it fits more in line with it being the mascot of DC/WB animation since teen titans (in general) is a dc property not a CN original.

8:50 Honestly, it would have been better if Warner Media (owners of Cartoon Network and The CW) dumped the "CN Real" stuff to The CW 4Kids so Cartoon Network wouldn't have its purpose defeated and continue doing its own thing to be unique from the other cable networks. I mean, Kids' WB and The CW 4Kids didn't have enough live-action programming to begin with, but if that happened, these Warner Media-owned programming blocks would have a bigger and better variety. Even Bobb'e Says is perfect E/I material since it's like AFV, but with an educational twist.
