So thankful for this podcast, it is really helping me better understand the true gospel. Growing up in a variety of churches (Wesleyan, Southern Baptist, Independent Baptist, Non-Denominational, Prosperity Gospel) I didn’t know whether I was coming or going. Wherever my divorced parents went, I went as a child. Was God anti-pants or anti-drums? There is so much confusion I’m still sorting through it all praise God for Charles Stanley’s television influence in my life. By God’s grace he (Jesus) found me and I put my faith in Christ but still figuring out what is the true gospel and this was really helpful. Thank you guys!

Great episode, yet again. I love that you guys are willing to push back on each other and end up self correcting during episodes. One thing I'd add is that I think the stories we hear from the mission field and stories from the underground church in China give us a good picture of what a demonstration of power that flows from speaking Jesus's story looks like and how healing and deliverance work as part of the Good News. I said yes to the Gospel at 15 and to a youth group of a church that was cessationist, or at least non or anti-charismatic. I got exposed to God's miracles today by reading missionary biographies as a teen, and believed it! But I still held on to cessationsist thinking because I didn't want to become one of "those charismatics". Then in college a bunch of students started praying every night outside on campus. The spot where we prayed became known as the Place of Prayer. That nightly prayer meeting lasted for several years. I'll just say, it was pretty much impossible to see and experience what God did with folks that were willing to pray every night and still hold on to any cessationist thinking! 🙂

This is one of the most important discussions I've heard about the nature of the gospel, not merely just a proclamation of the finished work of Christ (which is at the very heart of the gospel message) but understanding that the gospel is much broader in its scope being a heralding of the Kings reign and a demonstration of the Kings power. I might even go so far to say that, as the reformation was a rediscovery and re-establishment of the heart of the gospel (justification by faith alone, the finished work of Christ alone), this discussion, to me, signals what could be a second reformation, a building upon the work of the first reformation, expanding the nature of the gospel into a fuller understanding that more closely aligns with how the gospel was understood and proclaimed and demonstrated by Jesus Himself, His apostles and the early church. May this happen in our day.

"For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2). "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time" (1 Corinthians 15:1-8). "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world" (Galatians 6:14).

One of the many difficult positions to bear with this are: how vastly different the gifts displayed at the time of the apostles, to this day. Where we have symbolic apostles and symbolic gifts. But our G_d is not symbolic. His power does not wane. The gifts have, the anointed have. So are they gifts? Are they anointed? What if your only gift is to worship G_d? And in the way you worship, mirror the outpouring of spirit to your own life of worship? Is this satisfying?

The Genesis 1:28 command to subdue the earth is law/command - not Gospel (contrary to the claim made around the 9 minute mark). It’s concerning that this assertion was made without substantiation and there was no pushback, the Gospel is the message “by which you are saved” (1 Cor 15:1)

@ The Remnant Radio Hi again, the last time I wrote to you, you told be I am a long wolf. Even the cessations don't agree with me. Please read what I have to say. 1 Corinthian 12 " 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way." (NKJV) Paul said earnest seek the best gifts of the Holy Spirit. We all agree Paul want us to seek the best gifts. These "and yet" is very important because there is a more excellent way much more effective than the best gifts. The excellent way is for the mature because it come after the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This excellent way will replace the gift of the Holy Spirit. The proclamation of the Gospel by Christ is always accompanied by sings and wonder because the Jews had never reach maturity which would then allow Christ to adopt the more excellent way. Christ is a pioneer of the religion Christianity. You the host of this program had misunderstood the purpose of miracles. It is use to attract the attention of the lost to the Gospels. Once this pioneer Church reaches maturity, they the members must turn to the "more excellent way" to encourage each other. They must do away with these gifts of the Holy Spirit. Please pay attention to this. The gifts of the Holy Spirit is not the same as common miracles. These gifts are given to a particular person. The elders are to pray to their sheep who are sick. If a miracle happen this is not the same as the gifts of the Holy Spirit because the elder who prayed was not given the gift of the Holy Spirit. Even after the Church reaches maturity, the elders have to continuously to pray for the sicks and will have to ask for supernatural healing. Those who received the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is consistence. But the elder who prayed and a miracle happen might no be able to do the same thing again for the rest of his life. 1 Corinthians 13 "1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." (NKJV) The next verses tell us what is the "MORE EXCELLEN WAY". Paul wrote "if you have the gift of tongue but have not love" the gift of tongue this person received do not do anything for Christ when it is practices by him without love. His LOVE is the real working power for Christ. This means the gift of tongue is only use as an attraction to attract the lost. The real power of working in the heart of the lost is the love this person exhibited. In verses 2 and 3 Paul reiterate the same thing again. The sign and wonders profit no one without love. It is our love that is the real power of God. Luke 12 48 "But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more." (NKJV) This verse is for every men including the Christians. Sign and wonders is given to us directly from the Father. The more He gave these wonders gifts the more He will demand for regeneration and sanctification from all men. Love is not directly from us. We had a union with the Holy Spirit, the two had become one. When the love of the Holy Spirit is poring out of us, it is our love not directly from God. 1 King 19 "11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice." (NKJV) Elijah had done so many wonders before the Israelites that it reaches a point where it is no longer working in the Israelites. The Israelite had harden their heart and these wonders are no longer fresh. This is why the verse says God is not in these wonders. The only effective way is the message of the Gospels or the words of God to work in the Israelites. This is the reason for verse 12 "THE STILL SMALL VOICE". All the wonders performed before these Israelites account for nothing because they turned around and try to Elijah. It never affected their heart. 1 Corinthians 13 "4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (NKJV) Paul explains what this love is. 1 Corinthians 13 "8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away." (NKJV) Paul is continuing comparing wonders with love. This is very important because the word perfect in verse 9 used by Paul cannot be Jesus. The name Jesus is not even found in Chapter 13. It has to be love because he just said love never fails. If some thing never fails we can refer it as perfect. It will always do what it meant to do. This love might not be able to achieve the goal of God because the heart of a man belong to him. But love will always do what God want it to do in this man, to affect his heart. Paul wrote in the same verses " But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away." meaning they are all in part and are not perfect. They cannot affect the heart of man but only attract his attention. Paul wrote very clearly "LOVE" is to replace wonders. The word maturity I use here is to indicate when members of a pioneer Church are pouring out the love of the Holy Spirit for each other. When this love is pouring in this pioneer Church, what is in part (signs and wonder) must be done away with. 1 Corinthians 13 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things." (NKJV) When the members of this pioneer Church is young or a child, the elder has to speak like a child because members of this pioneer Church understand the things of God as a child. The Childish things are the signs and wonder because it only attract our attention but cannot affect our heart. When this pioneer Church is a man or when the love of the Holy Spirit are pouring out then they are all ready for the meat in the words of God. The elders of this pioneer Church must stop feeding the members with milk. The more the members received the direct giving of God, the more God will demand for their regeneration. It become harder and harder to have a union with the Holy Spirit. ! Corinthians 13 " 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known." (NKJV) Paul said for now we see in a coper mirror which is not very clear. He reassure the Corinthians that after this life we will enter into the Third Heaven and see the Father face to face. The we will know Him like we know our fallow human beings. 1 Corinthians 13 "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (NKJV) He is telling the Corinthians, they are at the moment of reading his letter to abide in faith, hope and love only. They are all to done away with signs and wonders. These three "faith, hope and love begin in us by hearing and reading the words of God". They all begin in us by the words of God. Paul is telling them to stop the childish way because they are ready to be a man. Preach the words of God and don't sit and wait for the working of the Holy Spirit during your session in the Church. After the Corinthians are sanctified by Christ, more love will pour out of them. Our Love is the most powerful way God could use to affect other members of the Church and the lost of the world. Colossians 1 " 24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church" (NKJV) Our continuation with Christ during our suffering or infliction are our love to the Father. Paul said his suffering some where far away is for the Colossians. The affliction of Christ is complete in our salvation. But to affect the heart of the lost or young converts or our breathers He needs us to love Him, our breathers and the lost. Because He is pure love, all the love He could give to human, He gave during the creation or Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Any more love He gives to humans He needs us to love Him first. So that He can give His love to human because of a genuine relationship.

A comment on 1 Corinthians 2:4-5. What does Paul say is a demonstration of the Spirit and of power? His speech and his preaching. He's not contrasting speech and miracles; he's contrasting the content of the speech - the testimony of God against the wisdom of men. This goes toward a tendency I see among some charismatics to not count the proclamation of the word as power. They define power ONLY as signs and wonders. I don't know what they do with Hebrews 4:12, or 1 Cor. 1:18 or Romans 1:16. The word, the gospel, the good news, IS power.

I would be interested in your thoughts on the Blake Healy books, like "the veil" and others about angels and his seer gift. Trying to discern if this book is profitable or should have any merit...? Because in one sense it feel like it is stretching a bit toward the wacky charismatic heaven visitations and the like but on the other it really exults christ's love and work in impactful ways and as we've seen, prophets and the spiritual workings are often just weird, be it in the bible or in recent proven words like from the Kansas city prophets series you did. And I don't know if I would quite qualify it as an unholy fascination of the supernatural because he does seem to make every effort to only unclose the minimum about the workings to show what god is doing and how his love is affecting and moving toward us in the natural. Is his book going too far? Do you even believe that they are true visions from God? How do you test them?

I think you guys made some good points about the importance of including signs and wonders in the proclamation of the Gospel. That being said, I think Jesus and the apostles' message was primarily future-focused -- prepare for the kingdom that is coming. (Anyway most of our living will be after this 70 year life.) So Jesus and the apostles stress rewards, doing anything to get into heaven (as you guys mentioned), etc. They wanted people to eagerly wait for that day in the future when the new age would start. Eagerly waiting changes our life now. One really tricky thing is that it is easy to fall into a social justice gospel if one ignores the future-thrust of the New Testament. Social justice warriors would claim you guys are proclaiming a truncated Gospel because you don't include voting for leftist causes as part of your proclamation. Really love your work though and have grown in my understanding of theology and the gifts through you guys' ministry.

The kingdom of God is of power, if you are denying the power, you are denying him. When he came on earth he operated in power and he left a legacy that still operates in power.

In 1 corinthians 15 Paul pretty much lays out what in his opinion is the gospel. he says of most importance is that Christ died for our sins(atonement), and actually the account of what the thrust of the gospel is for Paul in 1 Cor 15 doesn't include the ascension or pentecost. So I don't think we can say preaching atonement is a truncated gospel at it's essential core. The "kingdom gospel" people rely more heavily on the gospel accounts, the "atonement gospel" people probably lean more heavy on the epistles. I could be wrong but I don't think Paul ever used the term "gospel of the kingdom". 1 Cor 15 is my go to for the "gospel". But I agree with everything you said about the need for power and miracles.

15:48 For sure it’s not one and done. Jesus’ work was to bring salvation but while simultaneously demonstrate the Kingdom. What is the purpose for demonstration? The purpose is for it to be modeled and repeated. And then notice he tells his disciples to do what he did and then teach their future followers everything they have taught them. That’s the whole point of discipleship. To do exactly what the master does. Look how in Acts 19:1-7. You got people that “believe” through faith but because they were not direct disciples meaning they weren’t actually taught what Jesus told them, Apostle Paul anoints them by laying of hands and having a manifestation of power. They spoke in tongues and prophesied. This shows the difference between a self-proclaimed believer, vs a person who has been under the apostolic authority or influence. Imagine if the disciples in 19:1 says “Paul you don’t know what you’re talking about, the gifts are done away with” This is what I’m seeing with cessationists but with the factor of time after 2000 years of the cross.

The prophetic word is clear guys. The gospel of the kingdom will be preached as a testimony to the current kingdom of darkness. The kingdom of God has come near ,with power. But not yet established. Gods Kingdom is not of this world. We are not waiting to go to heaven as you guys have rightly pointed out. But we are waiting for Gods Kingdom to be established at the return of Christ. God has always been the King over heaven and earth but has given the authority to Christ for a season. To make all his enemies his footstool. After which he will hand back all authority back to the Fathers when he has ended all rule and authority. But first there will come a removing of created things namely the current earth and also heavens . The residence of wicked forces in heavenly places. Referencing 2 Peter 3 and 1 Corinthians 15

In my experience, the good Charismatics are Gospel-centered, but by no means all. The Spirit becomes a substitute for the Son, in ways which aren't perfectly clear to anyone. But the Spirit should always testify to the Son and never to Himself. Even worse is the conflation of the written "word," the scripture, with the "word of God," something far less tangible. But this heresy is a product of Sola Scriptura tradition, and is found in all Bible centered belief as a paradoxical pitfall. So here "Word of Faith" Pentecostalism tended to reverse course on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts thereof to a talismanic sort of empowerment in the written words themselves, applied by faith to the believer. It's subtle sometimes. However, in Reformed Non-Charismatic belief the Gospel itself is often lost, for similar reasons. For one, the law tends to be affirmed along with the Gospel, thus diluting it, even rendering it moot. Also, the resistance to the work of the Holy Spirit beyond the mere revelation of the written text is a profound blockage to the grace that they believe themselves to be affirming. So you need both, and you need them in right measure and order. There's a fellowship in the Gospel and a fellowship in the Spirit. There's also a fellowship in His sufferings, but that's for another time.

When he preached the Gospel and people trusted Christ as Savior. 😁

Michael, I agree with you on gifts, only if used according to truth of God’s Word. But I disagree with you with your view that the Gospel is or must or should be proclaimed and accompanied by signs and wonders. The signs and wonders displayed by Christ and his Apostles were to reveal - prove - establish that The Kingdom of God was not only at hand, but had arrived. The fulfilment of the Old Testament promise of the coming Messiah. Christ and The Apostles did all this. It is documented, recorded, witnessed. Historical facts. Now, there is no command or need to perform any signs and wonders - these do not save anyone. We are to proclaim the Good News. People need to be made aware that they are rotten and in desperate need of salvation through repentance, turning away from sin and relying on Christ. Then we are commanded to preach The Gospel of The Coming Kingdom where Christ returns to rule for His Father,

@JOSEPH I did not say I do not believe in signs and wonders. I said there is no command or need to perform any signs and wonders along side proclaiming the good news / True Gospel. if you want a benchmark example on preaching The Gospel to the lost? Refer to the ministry of John the baptizer. He warned people to repent and to turn away from their sins and he proclaimed that the King is Coming. That's an exact blueprint on what we are called to do. 1 Corinthians 15:1 -58 - People are saved by the truth of The Gospel - not through signs and wonders. True signs and wonders will only be genuine when The Holy Spirit wills. The generations that place high importance on and seek signs and wonders will be consumed by them and given over to satanic deception and a false gospel. You just have to look at the vast western Christianity right now to see they preach another "jesus" and a false gospel. Now what is our calling / our great commission / the work of the Lord? To proclaim him, His Gospel and to win the lost sinners for His Kingdom! 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Carrying it with signs and wonders and manifestations of power... and when Todd White is doing exactly that he's ripped apart by people that claim to be loving and serving the same God.

Todd white is a disgrace!! His promotion by NAR leaders was my first clue about all of them! I started to question everything in my charismatic church . Too much to get into here but charismatic non theology has removed me from my church after years of struggle to stay. Once I left in June I finally have a clear head space and the confusion has lifted. The ise of the passion translation and bethel and 7 Mt had thrown my head into a whirl wind of unbiblical doctrine and now I'm finally free from the craziness

What I am noticing is that everyone’s favorite add-on becomes an essential part of the gospel. Together For The Gospel thinks that determinism is the gospel. For Pentecostals, tongues is part of the gospel. I don’t hear you guys claim a label, but it sounds like 3rd Wave people think signs and wonders are an important part of the gospel. I am a dispensationist, but I don’t think that is part of the gospel at all. And while I am on the topic, you guys make it sound like Covenantalism is a foundation stone of charismatic theology. I don’t think it is. Maybe you could reconsider some of your arguments that depend on that. Work on sort of a Mere Continuationism.

Did Jack Deere give up his theology for Continuationism? Is he now Covenantal?

The implication being, if someone gives you something of value, you don’t examine it to see if it’s worth receiving? Am I understanding that one right?
