Most of us have issues with monkeys because they destroy plants and even roofs of houses by jumping on them, but we tolerate it just because they are animals and they don't have a clue what they are doing is disastrous to humans. Killing them or shipping them to an uncertain future is not humain, it's a shame to Sri Lanka as a country. We are a country of proud heritage, we respected the lives of all beings in the history, until the power hungry politicians took control of our country. Animals don't have a voice, that's why humans with compassion needs to make a noise on behalf of them. We have a department called wild life but I wonder whether they are doing their job properly. They are trying to find an easy solution to a complex issue... They could be captured and release to the wild, Sri Lanka is a country rich with many wild life sanctuaries.

I think what needs to follow is Peacocks, Elephants and crocodiles. Elephants and Crocodiles have become rampant killing machines in Sri Lanka now. There's also Monkeys problem in some rural areas of Malaysia. These monkeys come to the village, ate the fruits planted there by villagers, even uprooted the whole papaya tree. They also goes into houses to steal food, onions etc, took away human clothing that were hung out to dry.. Quite a nuissance actually

In a village in Udupi, Karnataka we too having been facing monkey menace for ages, but we have never harmed a single till date, we faced huge losses every day, monkeys without doubt are trouble makers. We have been tolerant as we understand ultimately they r animals, killing them is not an option. You can find other ways to tackle them.

No one is stopping us from inhabiting places where animals had the right to live, we have infiltrated into the deepest of forest, created man made structures etc. We are the superior race and we need to find out ways and means to tackles issues, but it just cannot be BARBARIC at any point. Situation is challenging but need to think of better solutions, giving a freehand to kill animals....just cannot be the right decision. Hope they come up with some better plan.

I am a Chinese, from the comments before me, I can group them into two, generally. The Chinese like to eat monkey so those monkeys will end up in some Chinese's belly. But as a Chinese grow up in China, I never heard of monkey eating. I know people eat monkeys but that is in Africa not China. The monkey brain, the only place that provide as food is Singapore and that is almost 30 years ago, and I don't know whether Singapore banned it or not. China is a very big country with many people. I cannot say not a single monkey was not ended up as food but it is not common. 2, End up in Wuhan lab. I don't know how much people know about this lad. It was built under the France assistance and to the top world standard. Until now there still have a lot of foreign scientists working there. They use monkey for experiments for sure but not any monkey they use. Only one special species. and they don't need that many. From my option, I believe it is for the zoo. With ten monkeys for one zoo, hundreds of thousands is not enough. Since China buy in large number, China may get a good price with this.

i read a few years back that in certain parts of the world, different animals may be used as a food item of certain categories and are a much sought after foods. As it is a rare type of food it is expensive than a normal food and perhaps the reasons can be those. additionally a research and development aspect can also be not ruled out. there can also be other reasons. it becomes a deal between the two independent countries.
