Why Chongyun is Way Too Underrated (Gameplay & Character Analysis/Discussion)

Chongyun has been my day 1 boy since I started playing Genshin back in September, but I've always felt he was a bit underrated. So in this video I look into why that is, and why he deserves some more attention! I do this through analyzing and discussing elements of both his gameplay and character.

Fun Fact! The knot and charm on Chongyun and Xingqui’s visions are gifts from each other. Xingqui had given Chongyun the knot first, and after almost bursting into tears, he returned a few days later with the charm that he made himself.

it actually isn't just a shirt, the localisation team is not always accurate. Instead it's a traditional Chinese clothing called 单衣 (dān yī). It covers your whole body and is very breathable.

After staying in the lake for half a day, he finally caught a glimpse of his target. However, after pursuing it down the mountainside, he discovered it was only a snow rabbit that had been frightened off by his flying swords and floating charms. @@yurriibee Seeing as I have both in my team, I can 100% confirm they have massive synergy. I run Keqing as my main DPS but if things get hairy I switch into Xingqiu, ult, then go ham with Chongyun. Constant Hydro + Constant Cryo means I can keep Chongyun relatively safe and drop just about any non hydro/cryo boss to 1/2 health by the time the cool downs are over, even if I’m somewhat underleveled. Switch into Keqing to finish ‘em off or a shielder to wait for the cool down, repeat.

Among all the claymore users, his final attack swing and his E are just really satisfying to look at, the way he jumps and swings with forceful impact but looks skilled at it too, like a graceful martial artist. It's up there with Beidou's sword kick and Hu Tao's 5th attack flourish on my tier list for attack animations.

YES. He has the best outfit. How it combine traditional and modern elements. He's a genuine and sincere guy and that's why he's underrated. The only thing people think of him is how he got pushed around by Xingqiu and Xiangling. He shows great restrain and self-control dealing with his condition, while his "friends" are more than happy to abuse for their own amusement despite the fact that he can actually fell ill because of it.

I unlocked Chongyun's story quest almost immediately after the update went live. Still is my favorite hangout event out of the 4. The ending with the kids absolutely melted my heart, we do not deserve Chongyun 😭

I’d love to see a video talking about why xingqiu is a great character and severely underrated....most people only like him cause he’s an awesome support or has nice legs (neither is wrong tho) but very few people seem to understand the depth of his personality and story which is what got me to fall in love with him :( they see a cute looking boy who loves books and think he’s some kind of quiet geeky nerd which is exactly what xingqiu PRETENDS to show to people he’s not close with to maintain his high reputation and it hurts to see no one try to understand him (and other characters in general) which makes me love him and chongyun’s relationship even more since xingqiu acts his true eccentric self around chongyun while chongyun’s unstable personality is completely accepted by xingqiu in return

Tbh, it’s the fandom that makes him underrated. Look at Noelle, Mihoyo literally favored her since day 1 but none of the community makes a noise about her. She’s the main focus in KFC. She’s also featured in the banner where everyone will pull (klee, ganyu and now venti).

Lol idk how you have missed appreciation posts, artwork (especially Noelle as Nier automata), the videos people made of her, Jinx & Tuner, other memes etc. I saw people even saying she’s more hardworking than Jean who clearly don’t know any of Jeans backstory and current role lol.. Noelle looks nice and works hard, but she’s still a young teen and doesn’t carry Mondstadt (like Jean Kaeya Diluc and even Amber to an extent in the story) on her back. If she wasn’t the maid cliche nobody would care AS much.

But it’s also stupid to say Noelle gets no love when there’s a LOT of fans for her, mains of her, probably a discord sever and so many artworks. Just because 5 stars are popular and rightfully so, doesn’t mean the rest of the cast are forgotten. Diona is way more underrated yet you don’t see me both complain and deny that there’s anything out there of her lol. It’s just a matter of weebs and what they like most. If you want Noelle content, just search for it, people literally made animation videos of her dude.

@Was Lyre Taken? I’ve never met one either outside of my friend who I play with. But they exist, our co-op experiences don’t change that lol. I am sure there is a discord server for her, especially cus Tuner has so many emotes gifs and artworks as her bc he mains Noelle and makes content about her. I don’t like Ganyu either but if 5 stars weren’t so strong, hyped up AND designed well then it’d be different. Noelle being a starter/freebie didn’t help her image either.

I always loved how Chongyun looked. Hell even after I already built a solid Razor superconduct build I immediately swapped that out for a Chongyun Shatter build when I got Chongyun from the weapon banner. He's just fun to play IMO, but sucks massive pp against enemies resistant to cryo. So having somebody else in your team to deal with Cryo like XiangLing is a definite must have. I had to make a lot of adjustments for him, and I don't regret it one bit.

As someone who used him since the day i got him these videos really warm my heart. He was the first character I ever leveled up till 90 and I haven't regreted it even for a second (unlike Razor interestingly enough). The Chongyun-Benny combo is something I live for and I find it the most fun out off all playstyles (and yes I played a lot with Hu Tao and she is super fun and interesting as well). Overall I love his personality and his abilities and yeah he is just an all around good boi.

In fact Chongyun as a nuke in a Xingqiu-Hu Tao-Chongyun-any pyro with melt amp and good investment does amazing damage. Invest in characters you like, waifus/husbandos >>>> meta. And all characters with good builds do well.

All of your videos are amazing and bring a lot of insight to various topics, and I'm very glad to see that it's being done about one of the most arguably underrated characters in the game. I love Chongyun, he was the first character I pulled besides my guaranteed Noelle, and he's pretty much the reason why I only use Frozen comps with Cryo, Geo (Albedo was my first 5 star and he's also a huge favourite of mine), and Hydro. I still use him with Kamisato Ayaka, Albedo, and Xingqiu, because I love him that much. EDIT: He's currently Friendship 5, a bit behind Albedo's Friendship 6.

bennett + chongyun feels great honestly. Combining him with chars that can consistently apply pyro (outside of autos) can make him such a useful resource to output huge damage. I 100% agree with him being underrated. Edit: Main combo for bennett + chongyun is bennett elemental burst -> chongyun elemental burst. Massive damage.

Like, *HANGOUT AND CHARACTER STORY SPOILER ALERT* . . . you can see the results of giving Chongyun spicy food or something which messes up with his condition... He literally falls to the ground or can't move much. How is Xingqiu doing that to Chongyun only "teasing"? Not to mention the financial aspect of their friendship. Xingqiu keeps giving Chongyun false hints and suggestions on demons whereabouts, Yun goes to check them out, usually spends all his savings, and then Xingqiu plays a hero when he manages to get the money back - and Chongyun is too innocent to notice how twisted Xingqiu's actions towards him are... Even when you suggest that in the hangout event, Yun jumps to Xingqiu's defense... Like, Xingqiu is nice and kind to EVERYBODY except Chongyun? How is that funny? What kind of friendship is that?

With him, you really have to use a proper team and that gameplay is waaay more fun than selfish dps gameplay! He is very good in melt comps and I love his personality!
