My name is Silvério Kist and this is the Kist channel in Europe, if you like the content consider subscribing to the channel, it helps a lot in the work we are doing.
In this video you will learn more about the location, climate, gastronomy, education, structure, job market and at the end I will show you the full cost to live in the county and you will have an idea if the county is ideal for you or not.
Population
It has 40,729 inhabitants, double the number it had in the early 1990s, its population has grown by 8.2% in the last decade - above the 3.7% growth observed globally in the Algarve and different from the downward trend observed in the country.
Localization
Albufeira is located in the Algarve region, in the south of Portugal, it is part of the District of Faro.
It is one of the oldest cities in the Algarve. The name is of Arabic origin and means 'castle of the sea'.
The municipality is limited to the west by Silves, to the east by Loulé and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean.
How to get
The county is currently served by train and buses.
A good option is to take the train from Oriente station in Lisbon to Albufeira for €26.75 first class and €20 second class, the journey takes an average of 3 hours.
By car, the journey takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes (256 km).
If you prefer, you can take a plane to Faro, by car the journey from the airport to Albufeira is 38 minutes (46.5 km).
what is it like to live
Living in the Algarve is a real privilege. Whether to take advantage of retirement, raise a family, study or start a business, the southern region of Portugal is a small paradise that has been rediscovered in recent years.
Climate
Unlike the climate of northern Portugal, Albufeira remains dry for most of the year, with only around 70 days of rain a year.
The warm, arid summer with an almost cloudless sky; winters are cool, windy, and partly cloudy. Throughout the year, the temperature generally ranges from 8 °C to 29 °C and is rarely below 4 °C or above 33 °C.
In general, there is sunshine throughout the year and relatively good temperatures in winter, compared to other European countries.
Job market
Tourism is the main area of work in the region, in the summer there is a lot of work, restaurants and hotels import people.
In winter there are no tourists, so Albufeira rests and jobs are extinguished until the following summer. As you can imagine, many Albufeiras save the money they earn in the summer to support themselves in the winter. So, if you are going to work or undertake, prepare yourself for this area.
An important question: As most of the clients of these businesses are foreigners, knowing how to speak English is very important to enter the job market.
Health
In the public health service, there is a Health Center in the center of Albufeira with a Basic Emergency Service. To complement the municipality, there are also Health Extensions in Guia, Paderne, Ferreiras and Olhos de Água. The closest public hospitals are in Faro and Portimão.
In the private health service, there is a large private hospital in Albufeira belonging to the Lusíadas group.
School Network
The municipality has 25 public schools, divided between kindergartens and primary, basic and secondary education. Fortunately, the public education system in Portugal is recognized for its quality. Furthermore, every child residing in the country can be enrolled in public schools, regardless of nationality or legal status.
