Had the pleasure of meeting both Chris and Sharla at last summer's book signing in Leeds. It was really nice just to talk to them briefly and share a bit about how I came to be a fan. Totally agree that you've gotta cherish the moment sometimes. Yes the picture is cool and all but you can't just bypass introductions and holding an actual conversation for it - imo that's just rude.

Same! I've met Sharla in Tokyo (close to the cat temple), and we talked, but I didn't want to bother her with a picture. Just having the honor of personally thanking her for her work was more than enough. She was very kind and sweet :)

Some people seem to think because they support someone that they're owed something. You got something out of the relationship....you got content! If it's an event for taking photos, fine. But people on their own time shouldn't have to worry about being accosted while out and about.
@kick81756 ай бұрын
Chris, if I ever meet you in person, I'll ask you (in a Japanese accent): Are you youtuber?? and plant a camera in the background. But seriously, if I do get the good fortune of meeting you, it'll be to express gratitude that you got me interested in travelling to Japan.

Chris you have every right to say NO. You are not supposed to be available 24/7 365 days . Used to work for a very elite hotel company and the policy was to leave the well known guests alone,not to draw attention to them nor speak to them unless of course they talk to you ,then you could converse with them.

I'm curious what Chris's ideal encounter with a fan would look like. I would have so much anxiety asking for something like that, so would just stare side-eye like a stalker and just awkwardly pretend I wasn't staring so...I don't know that's much better than just asking for a picture 😅 but also you don't want to waste your time, so i think it would be helpful to know :)

Don’t waste your talent on doing shorts. Those people that enjoy shorts with the short attention span won’t understand what you’re presenting to them anyways. They’re not deep thinkers. You don’t need followers and viewers like that. Because you’re right I’ve seen channels blow up from shorts, but then they’re daily videos 10,000 maybe 30,000 views. It’s not good for your analytics either

I haven't seen your instagram reels because that app just feeds me the most insane garbage and regarding youtube shorts I think I've seen one from Connor about the onigiri and that's everything. If I ever saw Chris I would probably be too shy (worried about sounding like a complete twat) to say hello based on past experience. Many years ago in Paris I watched Mad Max 2 on tv and the next day visited the Musee Carnivalet. While there I heard a very distinctive Australian voice next to me, I turned around and standing there was Bruce Spence! I chickened out saying anything, especially as all I was really star struck.

I don't have much interest in short form content. I rarely watch KZbin shorts and TikTok just does not appeal to me. I much prefer longform content. I'll also often be doing something else at the same time if it doesn't have visuals that I need to constantly be paying attention to.

Chris, there's a great video on the topic of shorts: Did TikTok Ruin KZbin? by @ZackarySmigel and the gist is, yes, you are correct - the viewers that watch shorts are not interested in long-form content, so while there's an influx of subs, they dont become active subs, and in fact, the shorts doing good can harm your channel because your long-form content will get less recommended. Its wierd, and also, apparently really hard to monetize properly.

Its true regarding youtube shorts, I watched shorts but don't watch the long videos of a youtuber if he posts more shorts than long videos. I follow them for shorts not for their long videos. They have lots of subscribers not for their long videos but for their shorts content. If you check their long videos it doesn't match the shorts, so weird.

the etiquette fails for some people is terrible. Certainly, at Show Conventions (Trek, WHO etc) the obligations of attendees and the guests is very well defined. No random selfies with the guests and just be polite. A simple "hello, how are you?" is nice. but never never interrupt people when they are dining or at the Spa etc, it's just plain rude.
