Why would Christa Miller leave her role as Kate O'Brien on the Drew Carey Show? When the Drew Carey Show first aired in 1995, I thought it was hilarious! In this video, I discuss the show and Christa Miller's decision to leave at the beginning of the 8th season. #TheDrewCareyShow #ChristaMiller #90sTVshows

@Stephen Sundstrom Still love the Carey show but, Seasons 7 & 8 were good but, like all shows the beginning is awsome and you don't know what to expect. As for Miller, she played the role of the pretty girl that was humble and funny and that the guys liked but.......knew not to push it!

The only problem I had with The Drew Carey Show Wasn't the cast, writing or the sitcom itself. It was that the last couple of seasons ABC kept moving the show around to different schedules. I never knew when it was going to come on next.

It's a traditional way for a network to do a "soft kill" of a show. Move it around to different time slots so people stop watching, then cancel it because of low ratings.

One of my all time favorite shows. Like Married With Children, I always considered his show as a cartoon with live players. Oswald and Lewis were great as a comedy team! I loved how many girl friends Drew went thru. They were a steady flow of talented, sexy, famous women. My biggest complaint was that they changed nite and times, and went on an extended hiatus. Not a way to end an iconic show.

I'm a big fan of the show. I have zero problems with the last two seasons- still enjoyable and a lot of laughs. They were different. Characters being written out, mainly because the actors were doing other things. We see a lot less of Ryan Styles in season 9, even though he was still on the show. As for Christa, while I've never heard anyone say anything, I've always suspected there was some animosity about her leaving. Kate is never mentioned after the character marries and moves to Guam. The only reference to her is in the finale, when a flashback from the first episode is in the final scene. I miss TV shows this fun........

I loved The Drew Carey Show from the very beginning!!! Loved how you only heard the voice of Mr. Bell all season long, but any fan of stand up comedy knew who it was. Then the big reveal in the season 1 finale! 😂😂😂 Then Craig Ferguson joined the show as Mr. Wick and became such a wonderful addition to the cast! Another awesome stand up comedian. Through the first 5 seasons I watched the show faithfully...but then Mimi got to be way too much!... I LOVED the rivalry and prank wars between Drew and Mimi (The first episode of season 2 and the China episodes are classics!!! But then it got to the point where Mimi's attacks on Drew went from pranks to crazy pranks to psychopathic maneuvers. And she never really got in trouble for it. Drew would make her troll doll squirt ink at her and Mimi would almost get Drew fired then when everything calmed down Drew would just shrug it off and go back to business as usual. It was funny up to a point but then it just got mean. When Mimi married Drew's brother, sabotaged his relationship, and then got Drew committed into an insane asylum, that's when I stopped watching. A little while later when reruns of the show were running in syndication I noticed in some episodes Kate wasn't in them and the actress who played Erin on Titus was. I wondered what happened to Kate and how this new person got into the gang so fast but I didn't care all that much at that point.

Doug, thank you so much for subscribing! I totally agree, Cleveland DOES rock! While live in and am from Utah, I’ve been to Cleveland a few times and have been to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame twice, and the NFL Hall Of Fame once. It’s a great town, and a great song by Ian Hunter, although the TV show used the Presidents Of The United States version of the song.

From what I’ve also heard. For the series finale they really wanted her to come back for the series finale. The idea was that she was going to appear in a dream sequence telling Drew to move on. However ABC rejected it since she was appearing on Scrubs at the time and they didn’t wanna advertise an NBC show. The ironic thing is that Scrubs moved to ABC later on. This may not be 100% true but it wouldn’t surprise me.

If they knew Krista Miller wanted to leave, they should’ve ended the show with her and Drew getting married. It was dumb to build a relationship up and then completely drop it for one year after I love that show so much put it out stayed its welcome. TV shows need definitive beginnings and endings. It’s a shame when something gets canceled and it just feels like it never truly ended its storyline and character arc.

Hey guys I was looking for this show forever because I loved it as a teen and wanted to rewatch it but couldn't find it anywhere. Only season 1 is on DVD and there's no streaming sites that carry it. Only $20 per season on Amazon and whatnot. Anyways, I actually found a website that carries the whole show. All 223 episodes or whatever it was. Quality isn't the best but it's also a 90's show so what do you expect lol. Anyways I'll drop the link if anyone is interested. Best of all there's no ads, subscriptions, or anything like that. Heck you don't even have to create an account you can just start watching instantly which is awesome in my opinion! It works anywhere you can get internet. Personally I use my Xbox so I can watch it on my TV but it also works on phones and laptops and whatnot. Hope you enjoy and they don't ever take it down lol. Back then if you missed an episode, you were kinda SOL, so I'm really not sure how much of the show I actually saw. But I did watch it fairly regularly with my family, and I did watch a LOT of reruns, so I probably saw the majority of it, but it's been so long that I don't remember a lot of it. I hate that it's not available to stream anywhere or even buy, because from what I have seen in recent years, I feel like I would appreciate this show SO MUCH MORE as an adult (and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it a lot as a kid too), and the random episodes I have found to watch and clips are absolutely hilarious, and I could easily see it being one of my all-time favorite shows. As for Christa Miller leaving, I believe the main reason she left is that she wanted to settle down, have kids, etc. She was doing both The Drew Carey Show and Scrubs, and her character on Scrubs was a recurring character, not a regular. Plus it was her husband's show, so she had a lot more control over her schedule and how much they wrote her character into the show. So if she wanted some time to focus on family, but still work, it was a no brainer which show she'd stick with.

He felt being upper management was Selling Out he talked about it countless times. You don't get the humor of the show. The store shutting down was Hilarious. @@stephensundstrom6379 The store shutting down was Hilarious. That storyline perfectly fit the show. Drew was the loveable loser. To change that would have ruined the show. Drew was Not satisfied with his career but he also feared he would be fired if he ever got the big promotion. Drew talked about this a lot. He enjoyed the job he had, even though he wished he could be more successful. It is a weird funny, realistic dichotomy. People get good at a job, would love to Do bigger and better things, but inside they really don't want to leave the job they were very successful at. Fear of new challenges is a very real thing. The drew Carey show was great but when the last season aired if felt all over the place cause if felt like they didn’t care about airing the episodes in order cause in one episode Mimi’s house had already burned down then the next episode or the one after that it was just burnt down showing it felt out of order like they only did the season cause they had another season left in the contract

Christa Miller definitely left the show before it "jumped the shark". The last two seasons of the show were just a repetition of the sad sack life of Drew Carey. We were supposed to feel sorry for him because he had to make sacrifices for the benefit of others. In the end, Drew Carey became a martyr figure.

Ahoy again S.S.! You know Steve, modern shows just don't have good theme songs anymore! The Drew Carey show had two!! Cleveland Rocks is probably everyone's favorite, and it is GREAT! But I LOVE 5 O'Clock⏳World 🌎 by The Vogues! And I was so happy to see it kinda rediscovered! I thought Ryan Stiles did a great job as Herb Melnick on Two1/2 Men, did you like him in that role?📻📺🎶🇺🇸

I didn’t watch many episodes of 2 1/2 Men. I totally know what you mean though about theme songs. I will say though that I quite liked the theme song for The Big Bang Theory which was done by The Bare Naked Ladies. Even that though doesn’t compare against the best theme songs from the 70s and 80s, such as Lavern & Shirley’s theme song.

@@stephensundstrom6379 I'd like to think if you saw Ryan on that show you would think he did a good job. A long time ago, CBS was known as the "tiffany" network. I think that show "tarnished" the tiffany! I think it might be the most filthy show in network television history!! It's funny, but I always thought it should have been on cable. Ironically enough, 2 1/5 men and Big Bang Theory are both Chuck Loree productions! And yes you are absolutely right, The Barenaked Ladies rocked that theme song! Does it have a name?📺🎬👙🙈🎶🇺🇸

First things first. You are right. It just wasn't the same after Kate left. I, along with thousands of fans, always hoped Drew would marry Kate and his Dream would come true. But since it didn't happen that way, I ended up watching episodes here and there for season 8 and 9 but was no longer fully invested in the show. But I am still a big fan and I can't wait to see the episodes I have not seen.

Unpopular opinion and trust me I know I might sound crazy saying this but even though Kate was pretty funny in some aspects for me I never really liked her. I thought she was a terrible person who drinks way too much and kicks Drew down for her own amusement. On top of all that she was way into herself for someone who is average as she is. It was always about her and what she wanted. I'm not taking away the fact she was a good friend to Drew Oswald and Lewis but Drew should have known the kind of woman Kate is with her track record of men and leaving Oswalt at the alter. I especially was annoyed when Nikki came back she didn't take into consideration Nikki made a mistake and might want to be with Drew again. It was all about Kate and what she wanted and she knew Drew was barely getting over his emotional shortcomings and her but decides to ask him to marry her. And although Drew did do wrong by saying yes when he was already married to Nikki Kate took it as an insult that he admitted he was going to leave Nikki for Kate despite the fact Nikki realized her mistake and would have probably treated Drew better. Kate gets so offended she gives Drew the ass-kicking of a lifetime and says she feels a little better. That to me just screams wrapped up around yourself and more into yourself then anything. It's nice to have self-esteem but Kate had too much of it and came off as self-absorbed and self-centered. I know some people probably didn't like Kate's replacement much and it only panned out two more seasons but I like Lisa. Unlike Kate Kelly actually cares about Drew's feelings and what he wants and she was actually much more beautiful than Kate. On top of all of that yeah Kelly does rib Drew a little bit but she wasn't vicious or self-centered and sprinkled in a little bit of how self-confident she has it for herself much like Kate did. I know it wasn't the best replacement for her and most would consider Kate was the backbone of the show I won't dispute that or take anything away from that Kate did make the show fun but I like Kelly better because she's a lot nicer than Kate. She's more beautiful but she's not wrapped up around herself or let's you know she's the shit and you should always treat her better like Kate did.

Well said. I was Not a fan of Kate either. I noticed what you did too . I don't think Kate was essential to the show. In life women come and go. I liked all of Drew's other love interests better than Kate. Kate was interesting for the 1st few seasons but she because extremely annoying after season 3. Kate leaving much sooner would have been better. To be replaced by someone who was actually interested in a Romantic relationship with Drew. This would have made the show better. A happily married Drew Carey in season 4 would have been nice to see. The Drew Carey show starts 12 years or so after Highschool graduation. If a Good romantic relationship with Kate hadn't happened by then realistically it was Never going to happen. I know Drew used a Relationship with Kate as Motivation to become successful and after he became successful he felt he would have a chance with Kate. That rational is very common with men. But Kate had made absolutely Nothing of herself. Drew was always more successful than she was in his professional life. He had No reason to feel inferior to her. Drew's lack of self confidence was his biggest red flag. Most women would either be completely tuned off by it or realize it and work to improve his self confidence. "Drew you are very successful. You have every reason to be confident in yourself..." The right woman can fix a man's self confidence issues. Mimi was the 2nd most important character on the show followed by Lewis and Oswald.

Watched the first 5 seasons then life happened and really didn't watch much t.v. Loved everyone. Even the Mr Wick character had his monuments. Don't get me wrong, think Craig Ferguson is a hilarious actor but wasn't crazy about Mr Wick. Had a huge crush on Christa Miller...ask my wife, glad I stopped watching before I found out she left. Was recently watching the reruns and Drew was right. I'd heard him say in an interview that he wanted the show to last 5 yrs for syndication then he'd call it quit because it's hard for a comedian to stay funny when he's on a successful show that long. Should have rapped it up after five.

I watched the show on occasions and started to watch it again by the 3rd season and onwards, however the 8th and final seasons without Christa were just disappointing including how they ended the show. After the series ended Ferguson did get the gig to host the Late Late Show (until leaving that hosting position in 2016) and Drew went on to host the Price is Right when Bob Barker retired from hosting which were both successful on CBS. I only know that Bader did voiced Batman in Batman: The Brave and The Bold and as well as the Harley Quinn animated series. And of course Ryan went to do the Whose Line revival in the CW. But I still find this sitcom very enjoyable and hilarious still during the early years up to season 7 though, plus the iconic "Cleveland Rocks" was the best opening for the show for season 3 until season 7.

She was a perfect casting. The chemistry of them was so believable it was better than several other highly regarded shows. I enjoyed all the iterations. The neverending store, Mr. Wick,… etc. what a great show. Besides the above, it was refreshing that it didn’t much force the only at work aspect of most shows, it actually showed people who eek a living just wanting companionship away from work. And there was just enough utter ridicoulous ness from the Batmobile, to Panama, to the band tryouts, to the adults running out of work like schoolkids exiting school, to the singalongs and dance,… Show kept it interesting at every stap.
