I like all the latex masks, except for helen. They could have prevented the melting by having plastic support on the under the latex to hold it up.

They could also have also made them from silicone. The plastic inner shells and the silicone mask would hold up very nicely for many years as proven by Studio C

its really a shame. i’ve always preferred the latex masks. they look so much more animated and hold more character, and the movement is much smoother. I always assumed they stopped using the latex masks to better differentiate them from the showbiz characters but I’m sure cost has a lot to do with it.

They stopped using them because latex would rip and get worn out where plastic holds up better

1996 was when the final version of them was released and plastic masks came out in 1999

Latex rotting is indeed a factor, as I've lost a few latex Halloween masks that way, before I improved my care methods for them. (Vinyl and silicone rubber masks last a lot longer.) Though to me, the Concept Unification Chuck E. Cheese's latex mask looked a little weird. The plastic one is more on-model, but it does make the robot look more like a larger Studio C animatronic. Helen Henny's latex mask looks REALLY weird and freakish, while her plastic mask is more on-model. But the latex Mr. Munch, Jasper T. Jowls and Pasqually look good. (With Jasper, it's crazy how his appearance can vary greatly between animatronics, puppets, costumes and promotional artwork.)

I feel like the plastic masks would also damage the mechs themselves since they were built with latex in mind. Think I saw a Jasper mech that had its head frame purposefully bent to support the plastic mask.
