At my local hardware store, the garbage bins had small roaches, I once pour Clorox and saw all of them crawling out at the same time. A few days later, I tried a roach killer with boric acid, it took three days for all of them to die, but now I haven't seen a single one again. Maybe the war against roaches is unwinnable, but we need to keep fighting them!

Scary roach story.....One time, I was sitting in my living room when I noticed a HUGE roach on the wall....I was PETRIFIED. I could not get to the door (I was going to go outside until my husband got home) I have a bad fear of roaches. I decided to make my move. I dashed past it, and it reacted by unfolding these paper like wings and FLEW right at me. It was as if he KNEW I was scared and was trying to terrorize me. I ran down the hallway and toward the bathroom (thinking a turn into another room would throw him off)....OH no....This monster followed me, still flying and made a hard turn into the bathroom!!!! I jumped in the shower and closed the curtain....and this thing started flying into the shower curtain over and over. Just crashing into it, he wanted to get on me so badly. I stayed in the shower for over an hour in a fetal position, until my husband came home. We searched the whole house but he was hiding. I could not sleep for nights!!! It was really traumatizing! TRUE STORY.

My landlord tried to convince me they were beetles. I told her that I wasn't comfortable having beetles showing up in my kitchen and living room late at night. Pest control comes by every 4 months to spray the property. I will never forget the joy and disgust after that first visit. I lived for a few years in a college dorm that was seriously infested with cockroaches. It was manageable during most of the year but before vacations when most other guys would go home earlier, all the cockroaches would migrate towards the few rooms that still had human inhabitants. I had to get used to feel them crawling on my face while in bed, it's a slightly cold feeling. A funny event with them was when a colleague used my microwave but didn't care to clean it or at least close the lid and two days later the same guy decided to use it again to heat his soup. He saw some weird smelling smoke when opening the lid and said that his soup tasted like that smoke a bit but was good. He threw up when he saw the burnt cockroaches in the oven. The most funny was when we found some poison that actually worked against them, some neurotoxin. The second day after applying it, hundreds of roaches with lost sense of direction and no fear would walk all over the room in broad daylight, it scared one of my roommates badly to wake up with that sight, which woke me up, it was a weird sight. Third day they were all gone and it took a year until I saw another cockroach in that room and even that one probably got lost somehow.

Well... we had cockroaches for 6 month or more. Like 10 to 20 sightings a day. Finally learned how to keep clean enough.. virtually gone now.. Advice is.. don’t use traditional garbage, never leave a wrapper or used coffee cup, or crumbs, or the slightest bit of grease on a pan. I put wrappers and stuff in the fridge

I wish this had gone into more details about evolution. We get that these are the genes that currently help it survive, but why were those genes selected for in this insect rather than others? What were the factors of its original environment that pushed it to evolve such incredible adaptations, and what originally kept it contained when it evolved such incredible adaptations? Most cockroaches are naturally found in caves or leaf litter, but don't have nearly as many chemical receptors as this species, so why this species in particular? It's like only half the story is here 🙄
