I felt so overwhelmed by emotion watching this video. Your loving and caring words about dolls, and the doll collecting community always fills me with such joy. Talking about how hard everything is and how little some others have, i too often feel guilty when i reflect on my life, and my ability to buy the dolls i want, have a comfortable house, and plenty of room to display and enjoy them. I just sit in my doll room, and look around, and just feel so grateful for this life and the wonderful people in the doll collecting community. Your candid reflections and willingness to share parts of yourself and your family is so comforting. Thank-you again, for everything you do.

I think we should feel great about or love for dolls. No one every knows when we will pull a sorry card ,if it is someone else's sorry, that is natural because it always happens somewhere. .I love that others have beautiful dolls to share on these doll channels.i would never see so much if others didn't share. I smile so much watching. I do feel that they are so lucky. I do have some collections .modest. But, I continue looking and get what dolls I can afford. It's fun for me and maybe my dolls too ,lol, to sit in each others company. Taking pictures and playing.

You have to dwell on sometime positive and happy or life can destroy us soooo easily..So, lets all pull each other along until that sunshine is bright again.😊☕💜

Hi, I just want to say that I am 50, and I started doll collecting again 3 years ago after happening upon a story that the Barbie Fashion Model Collection (Silkstones) line was ending after 20 years. I got a couple of the last ones, and I was off from there. Sadly, I had to get rid of my childhood dolls because they were stored in mouldy conditions, but I have a large collection now of other great dolls. The Barbie Rewind line especially hit the spot for me. I have other hobbies, but doll collecting is the closest to my heart. I’m glad it brings you joy too.

I am in the camp of very little in my childhood, I would guess. As a child, I survived a house fire. Everyone was save, but seemingly in an instant, I had nothing. I had a few dolls before the fire. I had no dolls after, and for a long while after that. But I really think it is learning about dolls that has me try to collect them. I have a very small collection, but I feel most relaxed when I make dolls, or make clothes/accories for my dolls.

When I was about 8 years old, my mother gave me a doll for Christmas. She was a large doll, vinyl and dressed as a Spanish senorita. She wore a ruffled red dress and she had jet black hair. I thought she was the most beautiful doll I had ever seen. I remember sitting there by the Christmas tree staring at her, transfixed, not believing she was mine. I still have this doll, she has aged, her vinyl has darkened and the dress has faded but I still love her. I always had a special place in my room for my dolls and took care of them. I would give them all different voices when I played with them. My mom thought I had other children in the room with me. Doll collecting has been a part of my life and always will be. Audie

I just l🩷VE you Rachel - my sister is actually scared of my dolls- hehe. I collect antique French dolls- oh heck, I collect any antique doll that I ‘must have’. They ‘speak’ to us, you know all about that. I’m currently older - well in my 50’s and not well at the moment and I’m so glad that I have my collect to look at. I have to say this- be sure to take your dolls out every once in a blue moon and just look at them. I did this when moving them and it was like Christmas! I forgot all of the many things about my dolls that were behind them, underneath them like their petticoats, their shoes and their details. So take them out every once in a while and have a tea party. 💕

What a heartwarming comment, thank you! Dolls really do have a way of 'speaking' to us, don't they? I couldn't agree more about taking time to truly appreciate each doll and their unique details. Fantastic clip Rachel. I think the ' don't get attached to the outcome ' was most helpful to me as i tend to freeze a bit when it comes to de boxing my dolls. Suddenly I'm filled with guilt about ruining their 'value'. As an adult, I tend to be very 'in the closet' about collecting as not many people get it, but it makes me happy and that's the most Important thing. I think you get to a stage in life where you no longer care much what others think. I also grapple with the thought of what will become of my collection after my life ends as I have no family, kids or relatives to hand anything down to. Was glad you touched on this topic. Think ill watch this video over and over...really made me feel better😊. Thank you.

I collect to escape and to give me comfort. I have had one of those lives that people just can't believe and not in a good way. I had a cousin that said I should write a book because... "no one would believe all the things you have gone through". The one consistent is my dolls, mostly Barbie, although I have many others from the 60's and 70's that give me the good feels as well. I like to hear stories of other peoples doll collecting and yes the majority of "doll people" are good and kind. I loved all of the reasons that you cited to love and collect dolls, but the one that really resonated with me was that its like being at a spa, in a way. I used to be a busy Nurse Manager with 82 patients and 55 Nursing staff of the 3 shifts. My days were long and spent "putting out fires" taking care of the people that i cared for. I had a large first collection and would spend 15 minutes every morning in my largest doll room. Seeing all of those wonderful faces each morning, with my cup of coffee prepared me for the day ahead. They were so beautiful and calming that I could face the day with a smile on my face. When I became very ill and could no longer work as a nurse, they literally saved me. I had to sell my wonde4ful first collection and thought that I may never collect again, when a dear friend sent me her very first doll as a gift. That opened my heart up again to collecting the dolls that I love. With the help of some very long layaways from dear friends, I now have a 2nd blessed collection that makes me smile. Thank you sweer Rachel for all that you do for the doll world. Love, kimmee ❤

Dolls bring me serenity, peace, and joy just being there. The space they occupy in my home is sacred and accessible. My go to place when the pain and suffering of innocents overwhelms me. My dolls will always be the comfort and the reminder that they are survivors, just like your beloved Volland Andy you shared with us. Their energy flows into me when I fell hopeless and guilty that I have much when others don't . They energize me at almost 80 that you are never too old to love, cherish, and preserve the culture and the history that gave these dolls their existence. Rachel, Hi 👋. My story - brief version at least I’ll try. But will probably fail miserably. As a little girl, I lost my mom to a car accident at 6. That trauma has colored my whole life (I’m 69 now). I loved dolls when I was little, but the adults in my life didn’t think I did because I wanted to keep them pristine and admire them. I didn’t play “hard” with them and drag them around, or cut their hair, or change their clothes or sleep with them. Only my grandma “got it “. So when I was 8 I REALLY wanted a Patty Playpal for Christmas, but I didn’t get it. 😢 I was very disappointed. But the next year, my grandma got her for me JOY!! I still have her. She has been with me in dozens of moves. She’s showing her age. Her hair and face are like new, but the plastic she’s made of is brittle and very fragile. Her original pinafore dress is also fragile. She needs to be restrung I don’t know what restoration can be done for her, but she’s in my closet under a cotton sheet and I still love her. Another thing I have done in the 70’s, when the ceramic classes were such a “thing”. The lady who’s ceramic class I went to got into porcelain and reproduction dolls, and I got into making them, too. It was magical and I learned a lot about how those old dolls were made. I also have my first Barbie and Ken. (Brunette ponytail Barbie in her black and white swim suit and blond, flocked hair Ken) My doll collection is small but meaningful. Thank you for listening. Thank you for your videos and for sharing your knowledge. Thank you for valuing you mom’s legacy and my condolences for your loss of her. 💔 35:04

So Rachel you have discovered my age ha!!!! I am thank goodness a very young soul trapped in an older skin. Collecting dolls has no bounds for age from the young to me. !!! At 11 years old I received a doll and was made fun of being called a baby for wanting a doll. I felt so ashamed so kept my dolls under wraps. Until I realized I could become so created designing clothes that lead onto me making my own clothes, and becoming so informative on this lovely hobby. Over the years I have organized my mind to certain dolls but Antique dolls being my first for collecting will always be my No 1. The doll room is so lovely to be in. picking up a certain doll and marvel its over a hundred years and perfect. I think its up to our generation to encourage and teach our children for the future to love dolls .Thank you Rachel for another inspiring video. Sending best wishes from London xxx

Having dolls gives us moments of pure play and solace from the chaos in the world. Dolls can ground us and make us feel safe. When I was little, my house was a very scary place to live. My mom screamed at us, threw tantrums and slapped and beat us. My step father beat and kicked and yelled at me all the time. But, at church we were all dressed nice n clean and nobody had any idea. Once I snuck one of my dolls into church and she saw it and pinched my leg and made it bleed and took it away. So, I know why dolls bring a bit of hope and happiness to me. I have no shame in the beautiful dolls I have because I know what they mean to me. I love them all. I've enjoyed being a mother and love my wonderful children who I have brought up in love and respect. And my kids are great about my hobby. Thank you for all you do for us in the world of dolls, Rachel! You're a bright light for us all.❤

Thank you for this video! So much resonated with me as a collector. I started my doll collection with porcelain dolls as a child, though my favorites have always been American Girl dolls. I learned so much about history through the stories and the dolls themselves. I started collecting American Girl as an adult, as they were far too expensive for my family, and they not only ignited my interest in historic dress but also in sewing and garment construction. Recently I started my Ellowyne collection, which has just been a joy to style and pose. It really is a calming, fulfilling hobby. There are days where my husband tells me to go play with my dolls because I need to destress. 😊

I'm delighted to hear how your doll collecting journey has evolved! From porcelain dolls to American Girl and now Ellowyne, it's wonderful how each type has enriched your life in different ways. Your husband sounds incredibly supportive! Thank you for sharing your lovely experience.

🙋♀️❤️. I'm 68. I have dolls, no specific type. I remember standing in a department store line at Christmas time. A beautiful doll in a case with her own wardrobe on hangers, caught my eye. I knew instinctively that she was not to be mine, but I pretended. Most of my dolls got in the sandbox the first day, or lost an arm when I tried to take off her dress and give her a bath...with me. Other dolls I used crayon on , for lipstick....or to decorate on general. The bride doll I wanted for Christmas, was a prayer doll instead. No white gown, no hair either. Her eyes were closed, and if you turn the crank in her back, she said a prayer. The one that talks about "if I die before I wake"😮 I cut Tressy's tresses the first day I got her, because her hair " grows and grows" magically! I gave her a Mohawk. There was one doll I loved as a toddler. But her rubbery.. neck was ripped. She had stretchy skin and was a joy to cuddle. I saved her from the trash can often, but one day, she was evicted permanently. 😢 I am not a mother, which, considering all of this, is probably a relief to all concerned! However, I'm a fantastic Aunt, and one Mother's day, my husband brought me home a doll. Not expensive...just A beautiful doll. Then another time he bought me another beautiful doll, and a few more. Then I bought one for myself. I don't have or need many dolls, but I enjoy them, and I enjoy their history. Fixing them up, and I enjoy your company!❤ I am a watercolor painter, and an art lover.

I started many years ago collecting action figures of various sizes, WWE figures, superheroes, etc., lately some barbies from the 2000s that belonged to my niece, then I bought others at flea markets, but I am focusing on Ken, the first one I I bought was Mr. Spock from Barbie, which is a character that I have admired since I was a child, then the vintage cowboy Ken, and some others, also some Bob Mackie Holiday Barbies that I bought on eBay and Amazon, the last one was a Carol Burnett doll from Barbie, also designed by Mackie, of which I also have his perfume, because I also collect perfumes. My last addition to my doll collection is a doll for my mother from the Elizabeth Dolls playline that was produced here in Mexico in the 80s, to replace a doll that she had. She bought it for Christmas when I was a child and my brothers and I left the doll bald some yeaes later and after keeping it for years to repair it, it was lost in a small fire, so I bought the same doll online for her a few weeks ago and she is so happy with her doll that she keeps in her bed by her side. A hug and thanks for your videos.

I think ultimately dolls are symbolic, and some of us can make connections with them that evoke memories and emotions, and some can’t. This varies even among doll collectors. For example, I honestly probably would have tossed the Raggedy Andy because I never even really liked my Ann as a kid, and I know very little about the history of the dolls. I also have a personal history with a moldy apartment and sensitivity to mold, so seeing something that might be moldy genuinely triggers me. It’s quite different for Rachel with her background, and once I heard the letter, then the doll took on a new symbolism for me, and I could better appreciate it. When someone likes something I don’t, I try to remember that they have a different frame of reference, and I might be the one missing something. I wish other people would do that with doll collectors.

Rachel, NEVER feel guilty about what you have or what you do for the Doll and Teddy Bear Community because you bring people like me so much joy😃😃💖💖💖💖💖!!! I so agree with everything you said about Doll Collecting💜💜💜💜💜!! In September, I bought a Polish Doll😃😃❤🤍❤🤍!! I am not Polish, but my Boyfriend is Polish. Like you said, "Cultural awareness", my Polish Doll whom I named Karolina which means "Womanly" or "Beautiful" is wearing red beads❤❤ which today are made of plastic or wood, but in the olden days were made from coral in which the women of Poland showed off their talents in jewelry making to their husband or fiances!! However, I have no idea where they got the coral🤔? And my Doll, Karolina also has blue eyes💙💙, plated blonde hair, a floral crown, and traditional clothing❤💚💛💙!! And I so agree with you about nostalgia because dolls💖💖 and teddy bears💜💜🧸🐻 make me feel happy😃😃🤗🤗!! The Dolls remind me of the magical feeling I would get as a Child from playing with my Dolls with my Childhood Friends, my Late Dad and Late Grandfather giving me Dolls as well as how beautiful or cute they are🤗🤗💖💖💖💖💖!!! I have kept my Holly Hobbie Doll, Raggedy Andy Doll, Strawberry Shortcake Dolls, some of my Barbie Dolls, and a life sized Uneeda Doll. I still have my Raggedy Andy Doll, but he needs to be repaired❤❤❤❤❤ and I so LOVE my Raggedy Andy Doll ❤❤that my Late Dad gave him to me, so I just can not part with him❤❤❤❤❤!!!! My Uneeda doll was made before I was born in 1967 and my Late Grandfather loved antiques as well as anything vintage. I do not remember exactly when my Late Grandfather gave me this Uneeda Doll and she has the most beautiful green eyes, but she has a hole in her head, so I put a scarf that I tie dyed over hear head and she looks awesome😃😃. I just can not part with my Uneeda Doll💚💚💚💚💚!! And I so agree that Doll and Teddy Bear collecting are comforting!! I got more into Teddy Bears🧸🐻 as an Adult and they are very comforting to me, especially because I have health issues with pain and I pray I will not need surgery for a hernia. And I so LOVE that Volland Raggedy Andy Doll ❤❤❤as much as that adorable Teddy Bear🧸🐻❤❤❤!!! Alexandra sounds like a very nice person and it is really beautiful to remember her family in this way. And Rachel, I too so understand there is so much agony in our world with the wars abroad and more, but Dolls and Teddy Bears🐻🧸 express what is still innocent and good in our world🐻🧸💜💜💜💜💜!! And I also agree with you that Dolls are a form of art work🤗🤗💖💖💖💖💖, have so much history💜💜, fashion💖💜, and give us all a sense of love💜💜💜💜💜!! So, Rachel, keep on making videos on Dolls because you are bring us all a lot of happiness😃😃 and I have learned a lot about antique Dolls, vintage Dolls, and Robert Tonner Dolls from your videos too🤗🤗💜💜💜💜💜!!

I love dolls a lot. Honestly I only have a doll from my childhood, the other dollies I have I've gotten them over time. But as much as I love antique dolls, I can't buy them because they're not exactly cheap and shipping is expensive, so I've started to make my own with air dry clay that replicate the original ones. Composition looking dolls, bisque looking ones, cloth dolls, I even have a corn husk doll that reminds me of my grandma (she never had dolls growing up, so she played with corn husk dolls) and they may look kinda wonky but I like to think that each one of them is unique and there aren't 2 that look the same out there. Thanks for this video, I like it because some people bully me because I'm an adult and I love dolls but what you say is true. Sometimes they're my only getaway from all the stress

I think the patronising people in this world truly believe that their hobby or interest is the only acceptable one. The problem, if there is one, is theirs not ours. Few people have commented on an unkind way to me. I just now I am a rare creature here as there are few, if any others in this part of Wales. One comment I DID receive was from a neighbour who said doll collecting was in the same category as cat ladies, two "problems" of lonely older women.....she has 9 small dogs, lives alone and complains her adult children rarely visit......go figure! My reasons for too collecting - I like them, I like sewing for them, I use them to stimulate creative writing in schools, you can have a collection even in a small home, the online doll community is filled with great people.

You bring up some great points! People can be quick to judge what they don't understand, but at the end of the day, what really matters is what brings you joy. Doll collecting offers so many unique benefits, from the creative aspects like sewing to even educational uses like stimulating creative writing. And you're absolutely right-the online doll community is a wonderful space filled with supportive and like-minded individuals. So keep doing what makes you happy; your reasons for collecting are both diverse and meaningful!

I love that comparison! Creating a personal sanctuary filled with dolls really can feel like stepping into a magical space where the worries of the world melt away. Thank you for putting it so beautifully! 🌟

It's fantastic that you've embraced your passion for doll collecting, and what an impressive collection you're building with vintage Liv dolls and BJDs! Each doll is truly a work of art with its own character and charm. It's so important to celebrate the things that bring us joy, regardless of outdated stereotypes. I'm glad you've found the space to appreciate the beauty and detail of each unique piece in your collection. Keep on collecting and enjoying your dolls - they are a testament to the diversity and acceptance that we cherish in our community. Happy collecting!
