As you stated, most master data has to be conformed in nature such that the hierarchies, attributes and members are unified across the org. Customer dimension can be slightly more complex to represent as a conformed dimension. Whenever you have a customer dimension with PARENT and CHILD attributes (such as Group company with multiple trading entities) it gets a little more challenging to maintain as a CONFORMED dimension. Customer dimensions are also frequently mastered/re-mastered in a Fiscal year cycle.

Hi, I have two questions. 1) In the given example, as we need Budget year and Calendar year and both are in different format, then how can we create a Conformed dimension in this scenario. 2) @2.29 you saying we can have two separate conformed dimensions one as Budget Year and the other as Calendar year. But theoretically, there should be only one Time dimension. then how the explanation is valid here? I'm unclear so please help me to understand.

1) The original data can be transformed as a part of ETL and can be made into one conformed dimension. Budget Year and Calendar year according to the video maintain a different "week cycle" but the days of the week are the same in both the dimensions. Conformed Dimensions according to definitions can be built if the contents of the two dimensions are same or one is the subset of the other. As far as the formats are concerned, you can bring the staged data to a common format during transformation and finally load them on to one Conformed Dimension. 2) I think he mentions about having copies of the same Conformed Dimension for different marts. Copying as in having an object that references to the main table. I am not quite sure about this one.

A Conformed Dimension which used in more than One Fact table.A Role playing Dimension that can be joined to same fact table to multiple columns,multiple times for multiple purposes.
