The trick here, I believe, is based on the very sound /t/, which on its own part consists of two sound: the glottal stop /ʔ/ and the aspirational /t/ (that spitting sound). The second follows the first, but as well as may follow not. That's why the "total /t/" is much easier to pronounce than the voiced /d/. The /d/ asks for a bit of more time to get ready. Now, that preparatory pausing before /d/ makes the /ɪ/ in /eɪ/sound a wee bit longer. Here we meet the effect of so called 'linking comprehension', when of our ear and/or mind understand a pause as the continue of the real sound before it. The long sound may not exist, but it may be a game of the mind, which makes understand it as long. For my opinion, the theory here serves as a help to focus our attention on what may be happening there.

Thank you. I've been watching your videos since I move to the UK. As a non-native English speaker who learned English by watching American movies, I can say learning British accent is not easy at all. Beside watching your videos, which actor do you suggest to follow his movies/accent ? Do you suggest practices such as shadowing at all ?
