Vatican’s directive to follow a uniform procedure for offering Mass has triggered a fresh row in Kerala. Ernakulam Archbishop Antony Kariyil has been asked to step down as he had failed to follow the directive. Here's how the controversy erupted.

It's our culture that what we're.. liturgy is entirely different from culture.. who has the right to alter the liturgy of the Holy Church? Syro-Malabar Church has its own Liturgical Commission along with the Eastern Catholic committee of Rome. They've the sole right to add or remove the order of Worship with reference to the Historical evidences. Some rebellious activities won't affect the Church and rebellions can't even influence the Holy Synod.

Times Now is misinterpreting. The Syro malabar church want to go back to its tradition under the current Cardinal(a pro RSS). The Portuguese tradition was followed by Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese. The synod of Syro malabar wanted complete control of the church for introducing the revivalist policies. Vatican don't have control on syro-malabar church except unless suggested by synod council of bishops. Stop misinterpreting and stop calling Kerala ..Kerel...karela..or madrassies

Its registered as a trust and auditing also done by law of the land. If you don't know things like this, then it's your fault. Temples and mosques are came into govt considering bcoz govt got it from Muslim and hindu rulers when their states annexed to Indian union. Any one who know the history of Syro Malabar Church know the difference in rituals is due to one group following East Syria Rite and other group following West Syriac Rite. Pope has been trying to bring both groups in the shadow of Latin Church rituals but with some autonomous rituals since last century. As you know before Syro Malabar church was established there was only Latin Church in Kerala until 1896. Pope failed to bring St Thomas Christians into full Latin Church. Finally Pope agreed for two autonomous rites in Kerala with communion with Catholic Church. Afterwards Pope tried to bring as many rebel St Thomas Christians back to the above newly formed Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara rites. Some rebels from Angamaly and Ernakulam agreed with Pope and came back to Syro Malabar Church. Difference between Eastern Syrian rite and Western Syriac rite remained in Syro Malabar Church which has ties to fight between Western Rome and Eastern Rome in Constanipole Turkey

Not true. East syriac and West Syriac are dialects of aramaic. The chaldean Rite follows East syriac while antiochean Rite follows West Syriac. Three are two catholic and many non catholic branches of these two rites followed in Kerala. Syro malabar follows east syriac and Syro malankara follows West Syriac are the two catholic branches. Syro malabar was formed as major hierarchy after failing to latinise St Thomas Christians who followed the pope during reconciliation after Coonan cross oath by the Goan padroados. Syro Malankara is formed when a section of indian Orthodox churches aligned with the Pope under Mar Ivannios. The rebels form a group which consists of people who want an indian Rite, who want to Hinduvise the mass, who followed Second Vatican council's novus ordo for the Latin mass and incorporated it into syro malabar mass. The current conflict is due to the same Vatican Council's move of delatinising eastern catholic churches whereby a unified standard of giving mass formulated with some compromises to suit all parties.
