I think there is something fascinating about the potential for Cricket in the US - Each nation has somewhat of a typical style of bowling, which relates to the climate. I could see different states doing something similar, so maybe Texas ends up with spinners like India, somewhere like Maine could have English style seam and swing bowlers... If that happens, how formidable would a US team be if it could have a bowling attack for any situation? There is also something interesting for people who love to follow a sport being broken down for the nuances as there are a lot of subtle details for those fans to obsess about and argue over! "He should be coming around the wicket to the left hander..."

@@sunilpokhrel8904 I'm not convinced, though for different reasons than I think will hold the US back in soccer.The US sports calendar is already crowded, and they already have baseball in the same niche as Cricket. The truth is, there is almost no objective way to say one sport is better than another, just that you prefer one, and what sports are important in the culture around you will be an influence in how you see them. I can see cricket maybe getting a foothold in a small group of communities where there is a strong presence of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi heritage, but I'm not so sure it'll spread too much further. We'll have a an idea after the World Cup in 24 when we'll see what kind of market penetration they get. I wouldn't be surprised if MLB tried to counterprogram though

Yawn! Where woud the IPL be without Kerry Packers World Series Cricket in the late 1970's. He changed Cricket for the better, the short form was seen as the way forward as far back as the first one day match played at the MCG between Australia and England in 1971. The powers in the cricket world back then, the MCC and ACB knew something had to be done to rejuvenate the game but it took too long to implement it, hence Kerry Packers Circus in 1977. IPL may have plenty of money involved in the game but it owes its success to those that came before it and no doubt the superstars from other countries that play in it.

People underestimate how good TEST CRICKET is. Have watched Test cricket since I was a kid. Unpopular opinion but Test is the best form of Cricket , you get quality players battling it out for 5 days straight. As a sports fan , would u shy away from quality game, with top class players play for 5 days, everything will be tested and players are challenged, brusied even. Its a unique experience.

Room for both, the history of the game will mean many players will want to play in the pinnacle which is Test Cricket, however it may see some teams sadly fall away like West Indies, Sri Lanka due to the emphasis they are placing on the short form of the game. Actually Baseball is more similar to the slower rythms of Test Cricket than to T20. They have best of 7 games in Baseball. One day of Test Cricket can be similar to one game of a 7 game series in Baseball. T20 is purely a cricket invention carrying on from the limited over cricket revolution started in the 1960s. T20 was never invented with American market in mind. It was crickets way of getting Cricket more financially viable and bring more people to the cricket in cricket playing nations which limited overs cricket had successfully done. Because in the 1960s cricket administrators in England realised. Test Cricket though great was not paying the bills and less and less people in 1960s England were watching cricket at the ground after a mini post war boom in the 1950s. So limited overs cricket was invented in the early 1960s. Latest and most popular version being T20 cricket. People have the mistaken belief of T20 being invented to spread cricket to non playing countries. It was invented to make Cricket as a whole financially viable and it has successfully done so. WIth the Packer revolution in Australia Benson and Hedges in the 1980s and BBL and IPL in India bringing billions of dollars into the game and tv sponsorship.

Baseball has 4 bases and up to 4 runners. Great infield play. Cricket had 2 bases and 2 runners, but is played in 360 degrees, so great outfielding. Flat bat is more efficient than a round one. Love both.

Test cricket isn't boring to those who like a contest of mental and physical stamina. There's more quality action in a day of Test cricket than there is in one game of baseball. In any case, a day of Test cricket is broken into 3 x 2 hr sessions (weather permitting), with breaks in between the sessions. Don't forget that baseball, basketball and ice hockey teams have up to 4 games per week. It's no different than test cricket.

My comparisons in regards to the other sports are purely on the basis of people viewing it regularly each week. There's a reason as to why baseball is only seen professionally in two countries, and considered a favourite sport in maybe 4 countries. The only reason it's survived is due to the populations of the USA and Japan. It is a niche sport, and it also can't adapt. Cricket adapted in the 70's, and again within the past two decades.

If you like Test Cricket chances are you will enjoy Baseball major league if you can master baseball's confusing American rules and American terminalogy. For women if you are a softball player as Softball is popular with women you will like Cricket too. All three of these three popular bat and ball sports share similar things. How would America turn cricket into a baseball style game? If anything it’s been turning more and more into a baseball format by itself. The advent of t20 turned multi day or full day matches into ones that took only a couple hours. That’s the way baseball has been operating since the late 1800s. Domestic leagues with large followings and city based franchises have just recently popped up (relatively speaking) and the IPL is super new. However baseball has had the MLB and the franchise model for well over a century now. Cricket is turning more into baseball voluntarily because it has to to survive. What’s your knowledge of baseball btw? What’s your issue with it? Or are you just hating because in your mind “America = Bad”.

@@aalokjoshi6839 Its nothing like Baseball other than the hitting of a ball with a bat and that you can be caught or run out. I have played both although have played cricket for much longer periods (40 + years). There is room for both, here in Australia Baseball is played at a relative high level as well as Cricket where we have dominated for the best part of 150 years. If you play cricket in a different season as Baseball it will work out fine but you will need a lot more large cricket grounds and its not as though the US is lacking space.

Cricket is the second most popular sports by default, but cricket would actually be the 2nd most popular sports on a soccer level, if I(b)CC(i) (cricket fans will get this) didn't consistently do things to prevent the game from growing. Only 12 countries in the world play the 5 day test cricket. It's the hardest format, like the Le Mans of cricket. Your country has to consistently perform, have a local test competition, have very high quality players and have a long history to even start to play test cricket and even takes multiple generations to start winning test matches consistently. It's a not for everyone. T20 is more open and accessible hence most countries opt to play it. I've watched every MLC game so far and they've been great. Lovely to see the stands with a mix of people watching. As a 'cricket tragic' (according to my hubby!) I hope that the MLC finds its footing and can create a niche in the US sporting world. The USA team is vying for a place in the next ICC world cup as well.

The skills are translatable from Baseball, here in Australia i used to play a bit of baseball in the winter and cricket in the summer. Baseball helped my fielding and throwing and its hard to hit a round ball with a round bat so helped with finding the middle of the bat as well. I think there is room for both so long as they play at different times of the year.

What’s really happened is that international cricket (test matches) is a 30 hour game a bit like a golf major over four days. In the early 70s a “one day game” was dropped (one day International). This form of the sport was never the answer because it was a duration of 7 1/2 hours. In the early 21st century, English clubs introduced a 3 hour game as a trial (T-20). Finally, cricket had game of similar duration to other mainstream sports. It is this short duration game which has created the opportunity for cricket to be played in countries that were NOT once English colonies. Cricket’s global footprint is quite weak with little or no presence in the Americas, mainland Europe and East Asia. Having said all of this, the T20 format is a spectacular sport and a lot of fun for kids to play. So it should succeed as a niche sport in the USA.

It's a bit hard to finish one T20 innings in 70 minutes. On average, I would say it might take around 90 minutes to finish one innings and 4 hours would be enough to complete one T20 cricket match.

I grew up in India watching players from West Indies dominate Cricket. Players like Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards were household names. Then there were the fast bowlers Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Goel Garner etc etc Today, I do not know what is wrong with W.Indies cricket but it is not producing the same class of cricketers.

Cricket is a great sport. There are different versions, the 5 day matches are known as tests and in my opinion the best form of cricket however OD day cricket and 20/20 cricket are also great.
