Our biases greatly impact the way we think and perceive things.

I believe it boils down to ones personality type. How were are wired plays a huge role on how we perceive and judge the world around us. For example: The title of the video caught my attention, and out of curiosity, I couldn't help but click to find out what the lady on the video thumbnail has to say about critical thinking. I believe I acted that way coz am a thinker and love intellectual topics. To others on the contrary, the topic is not worth a second thought. I'll conclude by saying, we all have our God given duty, whether it's spending countless hours in the lab or traveling the world as an Evangelist, we should strive to seek it out and be faithful in it.

actually critical thinking is something which is seen as a necessity. It is seen as a trait associated with higher level of intellect so the general population when they see a video like this, they can't help but click on it just so they can confirm that they indeed possess this trait or not. Now, if they actually do or not is a different story. You might be a thinker and love intellectual topics but to base that opinion on this video doesn't make much sense. This video is actually a very good example of confirmation bias. How many people come out of curiosity and how many people just come here to stroke their pride eh?

@@katiebennett1360 I see your perspective, but I don’t believe the general public would watch a video merely to confirm their intellectual prowess or critical thinking trait. I still stand by the personality driven viewpoint. Let me elaborate, personally I abhor small talk whereas for some it’s their comfort zone. Similarly, there are individuals particularly women, often switch off during intellectual conversations. Now, regarding the video, it grabbed my attention because it stimulated the neural pathways tied to my interests, while for others, it may have triggered pathways linked to disinterest or even aversion. That said, I get the sense from your comment that you’re more inclined to approach matters from a logical standpoint rather than an emotional one😊

Everything is biased, the world is biased. This is why its important to ACT and THINK for yourself. Critical thinking is more than just logical, it's personal awareness combined with a deeper level of understanding. You can't critically think about something if you are unable to see the flaws and the good in one thing. Critically thinking can almost make you spiral because you realise how GREY things really are rather than Black and White.

Hey! Thanks for the kind wishes! 😊 Here are 4 great books on critical thinking that I recommend: Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman - This one breaks down how we think, from quick, intuitive decisions to slower, more deliberate reasoning. The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli - A fantastic guide to recognizing and avoiding the cognitive biases that mess with our judgment. A Field Guide to Lies by Daniel J. Levitin - A really practical read on how to evaluate information and spot misinformation (although it can get a bit dry in some parts, but still super valuable if you manage to work through!). Critical Thinking Skills by Stella Cottrell - A solid resource for strengthening analytical skills, building arguments, and evaluating evidence. Hope these help! 📚 Happy reading, and best wishes to you too!

Adding to Marina's list (to make five): "Calling Bullshit: The Art of Skepticism in a Data-Driven World" by Bergstrom and West - How data is manufactured to mislead.

Most people operate on emotion rather than logic and thats part of why there are lots of issues in the world A lot think feelings = fact, especially with feminism Critical thinking is important, its helped me to achieve a state of bliss, i am also able to detect scams pretty quickly, i mean wtf would some random stranger want to give me free $$ or why would the IRS want to be paid with gift cards

I agree. Critical Thinking is essential, but Appeal to Authority is a logical fallacy, one of most critical mistakes. My religious upbringing had me excited to find evidence to disprove it, however when it came back around things got even more complicated - blind trust in authority is bad. One of my biggest hang ups being a superior thinker (always the lead on all tech projects) was when I saw what I was doing could literally be applied in my reality (was never a fan of the Space Magic story of BBT - probability eliminates the possibility of water falling out of space once upon a time to encompass a globe). Then Elon Musk starts with his "simulation" talk and it's like, ugh. Conspiracy is a nightmare to navigate, but the very reason we have critical thinking skills is to survive the deceptive nature of the world. It's when we start with a false foundation that the world is not literally out to get us despite the vast amount of evidence to the contrary that we fall into trouble. The popularization of the term gaslighting from a movie where a man tried to get his wife to think she's crazy by questioning reality so he could steal her inheritance would seemingly be a coincidence by most people. But then I can point out the most critical overlapping truth in reality: the Sun is a gas light. Worth the ponder.

If you start acting today, in 10 years you might start thinking (enough) critically... You need a lot of knowledge in several fields of science (hundreds of books) and to develop a "scientific mind" (in the area of these sciences) and you also need talents and DNA (minimum scientific IQ
