Btw 1 cuc=25 cup, almost every video about the cuban economy is made using cuc to simplify things and avoid the confusion that comes with buying and selling 2 kinds of currency at different rates within the country. But this boost is only short term, after a whle the economy dwindles which ultimately led to the fall of communism. But after that boost it all went downhill from there.
@beojack45929 жыл бұрын
your right, the Soviet higher education system was fabulously well funded and Russian state schools are still of an exceptionally high quality, but food production was less impressive, more mundane, and so not as heavily invested in. a well educated person who is starving to death person is less useful to an economy than a well fed idiot. and yes there was the first man in space, but there was also crumbling roads and little emphasis on things like consumer goods. centralized planning might produce wonderful things but such governments often focused on the grand, not the practical. the organic and natural development of an economy with minimal government domination ultimately wins out over one controlled by centralized state planners.
@beojack45929 жыл бұрын
as for why they survived for so long, violent suppression, complex effective propaganda machines, and a state run system of slave camps and re-education centers (gulags) might not save a state from its economically suicidal policies in the long run but it does stave off the inevitable for quite awhile.
@easysnake2059 жыл бұрын
+Сергей Некрасов It depends on what you are comparing it to. "When in university I open textbooks, soviet ones often have superior quality." the soviet union collapsed 24 years ago, so if soviet textbooks (at least 24 years old) are superior, i question the quality of your education. Further its about priorities. The USSR prioritized education and research. doctors trained in the soviet era are still often the best doctors for example. What doesnt get talked about is all of the areas that the state didnt value, turned to shit. In a state controlled economy its all about what the government prioritizes. For the record cuban doctors are of decent quality, its just they make 40 dollars a month.

They're not avoiding it. It simply isn't an issue for them. It's illegal for them to even do the most basic of trades. They're more focused on what's actually causing their issues. They don't have the luxury of beingIndoctrinated because they saw a couple titles of articles

Cuba is allowed to trade with any other country of the world besides the USA how is it the US fault for choosing not to do business with them?

The UK should bring over some of the doctors and nurses as we have a shortage and they would get paid over 10 times more, its a win win for the UK and their hospital workers.

ummmm…. UK can import doctors from India. There are millions of doctors who would love to emigrate to the UK and take low pay, but your immigration policy is closed to anyone Non-European. Get ride of that Europe first. Indians and Pakistanis are flooding the world with population.

@Mathieu LevertWrong. Look at America. It is totally opposite. So many CEOs in Sillicon Valley from India , man. The CEO of Google is Indian for a reason!!! And Wall Street these days is more representative by Indians than the Jews. Indians are richer than Jews in America. Something is wrong with UK. It seems there is racism in the UK. Otherwise brown Asians would have come up better. It is a shame.

halfvolley11 indians are not as well prepared as european doctors and european doctors are not prepared as americans. It all goes to nation investment in education, technology and development.

@Mathieu LevertIt proves Americans are rational and Europeans and British people are racist.

3:48 "thanks to that dark market" - Welcome to Capitalism and the private sector. Btw what I'm trying to say is that the "black market" as it's called in Cuba is the one who saves people. I'm not against Capitalism, I support it !!

Wow nice one! Can you name me some socialist countries right now that are on par of western countries tho?
@miguelrum77594 жыл бұрын
@@omgmico I was not saying Capitalism is bad, I was trying to say the opposite. In Cuba the "dark market" that saves the population is Capitalism, thanks to it, people can survive the failure of socialism ! I'm not a socialist thank god ! 😂

My mom made SUBSTANTIALLY more renting our two bedroom apartment in Vedado to Europeans than she ever did being a family practitioner in the mid 90s. It was a sad situation and still is.

One question lingers in my mind which I think you (Vox) could have addressed for the viewers. What is the cost of living for the average Cuban? I see that they get rations for certain items (which I assume they don't pay for, do they?) but do they pay for rent etc? What's the pricing of that like? I find it odd that the government would set wages but not regulate the cost of items & things like rent without considering the average salary. If they do regulate, is it then that Cubans want the increased amount of money for other things? Did you find out any info on that? Would be nice to know, thanks!

Well, considering that the people in the interviews are living in houses, and don't look severely malnourished, I'd say that $20 a month goes a lot further in Cuba than in the US.
