I still believe Palpatine killed Plagueis far too early. But it was probably the only time Palpatine could have killed him, as more knowledge over the midichlorians would have extended Plagueis's life-span. Palpatine lost potential Sith knowledge for the gain of power and rank of master like many other Sith before him. If Plagueis was alive for longer, the Sith may of had full control over the midichlorians.

Plagueis and Maul died nearly the same time. With Sidious believing his time as master was at hand, but as you stated he jumped the gun way too soon. I sort of wonder if Plagueis would’ve survived had he properly defended himself even if he was inebriated.
@DaleLambo
@DaleLambo 11 ай бұрын
@@InfiniteNaos Yes, Plagueis taught Palpatine about controlling the midichlorians in a practical sense but not in a physical sense. Hence why we have the scene in Revenge of the Sith (Anakin becomes Vader) where Palpatine states 'To cheat death, the power only one has achieved (that being Plagueis) but if we work together I know we can discover the secret'. So yes Palpatine did jump the gun, If Plagueis was still alive this physical knowledge would have been taught to Palpatine but like many Sith before Palpatine - the greed, temptation, lust for power and rank meant a lot of these skills/knowledge where lost. One of the drawbacks of the Sith Rule-Of-Two that Darth Bane didn't properly think about during his era.
@InfiniteNaos
@InfiniteNaos 11 ай бұрын
@@DaleLambo Bane saw that there were too many Sith at one time for them to be so weak compared to the Old Republic Sith and in the Sith Golden Age. As a direct opposite to Luke’s philosophy of the force. Luke believed the force was a flame that can be spread to others and help grow as a unit while Bane believed the force was like a venom, the most potent in one while spread it diluted the potency. Going off of this you have to see it by Bane’s point of view. He grew up during the BrotherHood of Evil during Lord Khan’s reign where he actively objected to using the knowledge of the old Sith believing they were to proud for their own good and tried to adopt a similar Order to the Jedi based on numbers rather than having a select few with the most potent skill. Bane sought to remove this system and recreate it with the Rule of Two. On the surface it looks detrimental compared to the older Sith Order, but it got the Sith where it need to be to usurp the Jedi once it was Sidious’s time. On the idea of not having too much knowledge well by this point in the Banite Era the older Sith knowledge was either lost to the millennia’s of in fighting and fighting the Republic. In fact, Bane had the holocron of Darth Revan, one of the most precious sources of Sith knowledge at that point in time. Now going all the way up to Plagueis, similar to Bane, he was interested in the knowledge from the Sith of old. He was considered a book worm even a Sith version of a Jedi Consular if there was such a thing. He wasn’t stupid, but due to the Sith nature of greed, pride, blindness to their own ambitions, and most importantly over confidence you can clearly see that Plagueis was very mistaken that he himself was above the Banite System. On another note the Banite System began to unravel once Darth Tenebrous changed his allegiance from the Banite philosophy and tried to find his own way of immortality, a combination of both Sith knowledge and Bith science, hence why he was bad at Sith sorcery as he was more of a scientist. Plagueis adopted the idea of the force being more of a tool than an extension of one’s self and thus also had his own ambitions of immortality using the living force “he could influence the midiclorians to create…..life.” also having both himself and Sidious being more of equals rather than just master and apprentice in a system. Sidious resumed the ideals of the Banite System after killing his master, but he too failed at the system because of the over-confidence, using the force only as a tool, and had decided to remain emperor forever when he deemed Vader as a failure of an apprentice.

@@InfiniteNaos If Palpatine could use the dark-side of the force to manipulate the midichlorians like Plagueis then why would he state to Anakin that together they could uncover the secrets to cheat death that only Plagueis achieved during this time. It was because Palpatine knew it was possible from Plageuis’s research and seeing Plagueis do it himself, but believed in time (and with help) he could do it too (i.e. jumping the gun). Bane created the Rule Of Two to ensure the Sith would always grow stronger 'A master to embody the power and an apprentice to crave it'. But Bane also believed it should be displayed in the terms of power, strength and skill. Hence why Bane was worried about Darth Zannah as he believed she was waiting for him to grow old and weak (not in his prime form) before overthrowing him. This is an act of Deception which is a Sith negative emotion along with other emotions like Manipulation, Greed, Lust, Fear and Anger. Deception & Manipulation were literally the key to ensuring that the Sith stayed undercover from the Jedi for millennia, so it makes perfect sense that the Sith would use these attributes most for overthrowing their masters in later generations too. For example let’s look at how Plagueis and Palpatine killed their masters. Plagueis saw an opportunity to kill Tenebrous by collapsing a ceiling on him and Palpatine also saw an opportunity to kill Plagueis after getting him drunk (from alcohol) and killing him in his sleep after Plagueis hadn’t slept in years. The Sith over generations grew in their deception & manipulation dark-side abilities but ultimately it’s hard to say whether they surpassed theirs masters (compared to the brotherhood-order era and etc) in terms of strength, power and skill because deception was widely used in their masters demise and not 1-on-1 death battles. Plagueis himself outlined this - “If one accepted the tales handed down in accounts and holocrons, the ancient Sith had known how to accomplish this. But had Sith like Naga Sadow and Exar Kun genuinely been more powerful, or had they benefited from the fact that the dark side had been more prominent in those bygone eras?” Based on Bane’s ideals for the Rule Of Two, the Sith should have been extremely more powerful than anyone during the era of overthrowing the Jedi (Order 66). However, even Palpatine himself struggled against Yoda and Mace Windu and even relied on Anakin too. Greed also plays a key part in this, as without the Sith craving and greed of wanting to become the master. Physically abilities/skills like Plagueis’s control over the midichlorians or even Tenebrous’s knowledge in Bith/Sith science could have been greatly developed and done a lot quicker. However, this gets overlooked as the apprentice believes they can do this themselves (jumps the gun) without fully knowing if they can and results with potential knowledge and skills being lost. Over the generations of the Rule Of Two, it shows that this continues to occur and shows there was still issues with the Rule Of Two philosophy. Many Sith believed it was flawed. Tenebrous did - hence why he had raised a backup Darth Venamis. Plagueis did - as he wanted Palpatine to be his equal but also rule alongside in the shadows (aside of the politics) and even Palpatine did - using the Inquisitors (dark-side users).

The tragedy of Darth Plagueis is definitely ironic. So bold, so arrogant he believed he controlled the Dark Side of the Force to do his bidding. He also trained his apprentice in this belief as well. Yet, the Dark Side would have the last laugh. In spite, the Dark Side spoke out to Darth Sideous it was now time to kill Pagueis and become the new Sith master. Irony in it was the Dark Side who actually commanded the Sith to do its bidding, and they had a chosen one to complete its next assassination. Outstanding VOD.

For Plagueis to be considered a Book by Sith standards he truly was foolish to not pursue and try to understand rumors and legends similar to what Sidious did when Emperor. Nearly everything that Plagueis wrote off as either false or story telling was proven when Sidious was Emperor or at least knowledge was found on the different subjects.

Considering Plagueis' meddling was enough to bring about the Chosen One in retaliation, I believe that if he had lived long enough he would have easily become the second Darth Vitiate, using the Force to gain immortal life (perhaps even using Vitiate's ritual of Nathema) and becoming easily the most powerful Sith to ever live. His reign would have likely spanned many decades in which he would subjugate the entire Galaxy until a fully realized Chosen One, much more powerful than the Anakin we see in Revenge of the Sith, would take him down. At that point, only Anakin would have been strong enough to challenge him, and not even Palpatine would be able to kill him anymore.

@@Vyrall-nk2xd That's interesting. I think the comparison still stands though, they were both unhealthily obsessed with immortality and both could have become very powerful if they continued in their studies. I wasn't saying they would be exactly alike, Vitiate never seemed interested in the science of the Force the same way Plagueis did, and Plagueis is more renowned for his scientific prowess than for any Sith sorcery.

In fairness, it's not as if the existence of the Ones was obvious. The Father saw to that, because he knew that those such as the Sith would try to find a way to exploit them. Which would be quite a nuisance and would probably wreck the Balance. Especially if the Son and Daughter managed to take over the Sith and Jedi respectively.

I just finished the Darth Plagueis novel today. It's interesting to see how long he was able to last because of his necessity to execute the Sith Grand Plan, without it it's almost like he was a lost old man who was drunk with his craving for power. What makes Plagueis a special sith lord is that he put into motion the events that ended the 1000 year old Jedi order, all without needing to use his lightsaber. His intelligence mixed with his wisdom of the force made him the most dangerous villain of his time, even Sidious picked up off of the foundation Plageuis built.

Sounds like a bit of jealousy knowing he's clearly inferior to them. Seeing as regardless of the franchise, medium or even in real life it's just about impossible to kill a deity an while about as close as a being can get these probably weren't. Just barely but not. Especially more so seeing as basically nothing likes Plageuis anyways INCLUDING an even Palpatine and the Force thought he was an treated him like a fool. Plageuis is literally the SW version of A Scientologist gone Evil mystic. Him an anything like him LITERALLY has cosmic magical abilities that are only partially understood. Where it's shown FOR SURE Ghosts, as we know it, sometimes appear to people both at will an when asked to do so or summoned. Showing quite a bit of bias too. What'd he think that literal projectors an recordings on them and people just rabidly used them regardless of race, organization an species across the Galaxy?? Seems like just few more reasons the Force didn't like him.

The Ones play a very large role in the Star Wars lore and even after Clone Wars, Rebels, and now Ahsoka there's still much we don't know about them so yeah I do have theories about them I suspect Palpatine somehow came across the Mortis gods in the past whether that was when when he was still Plagieus's apprentice or sometime after he killed him I can't say but Palpatine definitely knows more about the Ones of Mortis than what he is let on and I think the Mortis gods and the world between worlds were intended to play a much more significant role in Sidious vision of the Empire but after Ezra destroyed the entrance the world between worlds those plans never really came to fruition. Anyhow the Mortis gods still play a critical part in the continuing Star Wars storyline and something tells me they will be at the culmination. I would be interested in a novel or even a series released entirely focused on the Mortis gods because they're definitely worthy of it.

It really shows how blind and dumb the high council were during the time under Grandmaster Yoda. They knew of the prophecy of the chosen one and believed that he/she would bring about the destruction of the Sith and bring balance to the Force, in their own words. And yet during the time of Episode 1-3 they denied the existence of the Sith. What Sith would the chosen need to destroy, in their words, if there were no Sith like they wanted to believe. @hsthatzo8063 True, they didn't deny it, but they kept it hush hush so as to not raise concern and worry people. I'm getting to the point of why they didn't prepare for the inevitable outcome that the Sith would return. Yodas' whole mindset during the time that he was grandmaster was a very relaxed care free approach. They didn't train to ever encounter a Sith return but just to be peacekeepers, not warriors. So many died in the clone wars because they were ill prepared and the same with encountering the Sith, they were ill prepared. Dooku and Qui Gon were the only 2 that truly believed the Sith would return and prepared for it. Dooku chose his style of combat because he believed they would return. Yoda got blindsided because he thought, "It couldn't happen," but yet it did. Part of the genius of Sidious is that the jedi became blinded by their own arrogance, which led to their destruction. Doing nothing about an inevitable outcome is a form of denying its existence, among other things.

Plagueis believed the force was something to be commanded, he was so focused on his own view of the force and plans of learning it he disregarded pretty much all other teachings but his own. Where the Jedi believe the force has it's own will, Plageuis believed the force was there to do his will, this eventually led him to the delusions which caused his demise but in his prime era the desire to command the force is what motivated him to reach the heights he did. We need a series to show on screen what he and palpatine were like.
