My story is similar to yours, seeing dayz for the first time was magical. And everything about it was magical. I used to play on my XBOX 360 everyday but once I got a PC to play DAYZ I neglected my friends on the xbox and barely touched because DayZ was that good. I am 100% sure no game will ever give me that feeling that Arma 2 Dayz did around 2012. Im not sad that I will never experience anything like it ever again, I am happy that I got to experience it.

Didn't really realize at the time the influence that Arma ll Dayz Mod had in the gaming industry. I started playing Dayz Mod right when FrankieonPC posted the second chapter of his series. I fell in love with that game right when I saw it. After that I played Epoch, Overpoch specially in Taviana and Panthera maps. I stopped playing after 1000 hours put in Arma 2 and then tried all the rest, WarZ, H1z1, Rust PUBG, etc. I think it was 2014 that DayZ SA was released and the first months were absolutely insane. There was a shit ton of bugs which could be frustrating but we still managed to have fun. With 0.62 version it improved a lot and now I can't believe all the progress that the game has made. I've got over 5000 hours in DayZ Standalone and I don't imagine stop playing it anytime soon. The game of my life 💘 Thanks Dean Hall, thanks Bohemia and DayZ Devs for this master piece!

DayZ inspired two games of Roblox - Apocalypse Rising and Deadzone (the latter being more WarZ inspired really). Nelson Sexton, the creator of Deadzone, then went on to create his own game in the Unity engine because an exploiter on Roblox stole his game and Roblox moderation did nothing. The game was called Unturned and it became one of the most popular free-to-play games on Steam! I have great memories of playing these games because my PC was too 💩 to run ArmA II. In fact, I obtained a copy of the original Deadzone (at that point Deadzone clones were their own subgenre on Roblox) and decided to make my own map for it, add new weapons, etc. This led me to meet somebody else who was also doing the exact same thing and we really hit it off. 11 years later, we’ve all largely kept in-touch (first Skype, then Discord) into adulthood. The guy I mentioned used what he learned from making Deadzone clones to become a game dev and is able to financially support his elderly parents and put his younger sister through university. All because of DayZ.

I didn't play much of the original ISS, but watching streamers like Summit and Dakotaz play it was a lot of fun. Yeah the game was janky and goofy and we cannot deny it had a shady background, but the PVP experience really made up for it and I think that's why it had the cult following. I did play quite a lot of the emulated version called The NewZ, which I know is way inferior to the original, but I can't lie, the game was really fun. I personally find Caliwood and it's exaggerated wind very nostalgic and the games skill gap with snipers was a lot of fun. The VSS was no joke in ISS 😆
@scalz4204 ай бұрын
@@snzr newz was garbage. When i bought warz it was called ISS. But it was for sale for $3 on steam. I bought it just to see how bad it was. The fps was good. The online hitreg was good.. The servers never needed restart.. They didnt need to download mods.. I was walking around collecting guns/rifles putting them into a safebox that actually kept my stuff safe. And i got it for free because i gave someone a sniper rifle in a trade server (then sergey later made it so you could buy ALL cash shop things with zombie dropped cash) That allowed me to purchase and play as all like 8 different player models. When i played the pistols were very accurate and i could headshot like 40 zombies in just a few seconds. It was amazing. There was nothing wrong with it. In fact there were no hackers for about 1 whole entire year after they implemented punkbuster. Then sergey titov opened up SEA servers which are expensive as fk.. All while the game had no sub fee and only cost $3 for me. They shot themselves in the foot by calling it warz tho. I too assumed it was a dayz ripoff. But nowadays i think dayz would have to keep its head down if it was standing inside the same room as warz. Dayz did nothing compared to warz.

Don't forget about extraction shooters as well! ☝️🤓 Tarkov's logo is literally straight reference to DayZ logo. When Tarkov was in early stages of development, before it became popular in the West, it was treated by russian gamers as "session based DayZ". DayZ Mod (as well as Origins, Namalsk and Epoch) was very popular in ex-Soviet countries back in day! I remember watching Frankie as kid... I understood almost nothing what he was saying (didn't know English properly at the time), but the way he was presenting those stories was so good, that i still pretty much understood what was going on) He's videos are really motivated me to learn english, and i really thankful him for that! @snzr4 ай бұрын
I also kind of agree with that. Half Life pushed the FPS genre to extreme heights and it birthed in my opinion the greatest FPS ever made, which is CS. But I think DayZ pushed PC gaming to an extreme level. In my opinion, it was thee game that inspired millions of people to finally make the jump to PC, and it was also the game that really kickstarted long form gameplay content that inspired millions of people to start KZbin. And lastly, DayZ went onto to birth new games and genres like Rust and the Battle royale mode. DayZ did so much for the PC industry.

I'm sorry but I think this title belongs to the ARMA series. Afterall, Day-Z was an ARMA 2 mod, so was PUB-G.
@snzr4 ай бұрын
Partly true. However I have to kind of disagree. Yes there is an argument to be made that DayZ would not exist if it wasn't for Arma 2. But no one really cared for Arma 2 until DayZ came out. DayZ itself pushed the Arma franchise to insane levels I'm sure the original dev team were not expecting. Yes DayZ ran on the Arma 2 engine, but they were completely different games, so I think comparing them isn't fair. In my opinion DayZ mod was it's own game. And if it wasn't for DayZ, all the games that I mentioned in the video probably would not exist. Brendan Green loved Arma 2, but it wasn't Arma 2 that made him want to make his own Battle Royale mode, it was DayZ. Brendan loved DayZ's concept, but he wanted the games PVP to be more streamlined, that's why he made the Battle Royale mode.

@@snzrI agree that DayZ actually brought the concepts...but Arma 2 mechanics were key to the success of both DayZ and Frankie and that would have never worked on the Source Engine for example. Why? At that time no game on foot took realism so seriously...ballistics, lethality, distances, penetration, vehicles, big landscapes with weather changes obligating players think of s route, orient themselves, decide how to react... Many things and scenarios that would not be possible with other engines of that time.

DayZ Was for sure influential, but I'm not sure if I would say the most influential game ever. And I wanted to add that it's weird you didn't mention Standalone for the most part, and especially modern Standalone like at all. You don't have to like it, maybe you're that type of DayZ player which only played Mod and liked only it, but it's just weird to leave it out fully in a video about... Well... History of DayZ, and it's influence especially since it grew quite a lot. It's one of the most popular games on steam, daily.

This wasn't a DayZ history video though, more of a short story on what the game did for KZbin and the industry. The video focused on the influence that the DayZ mod had on gaming and on gamers. All the games I mentioned in the video stemmed from that one mod. I have played both versions of DayZ extensively and the current version of DayZ is probably the best version we have ever had, but obviously my nostalgia for the mod influenced me to make this video 😄. And to be honest, I rarely play DayZ now, but I really appreciated my time with it and what it did for KZbin and the gaming industry.

NGL the end made DayZ look more a curse than a blessing ... cashgrab battleroyals that only secure shitty games with cut stories for a BR mode and a dozend more examples how it turned games for the worse ...

Yeah I kinda got sick of the Battle Royale games coming out left and right, but thankfully it has calmed down a little bit😬
