Why Delhi's sub-city Narela is a ghost town despite investment of '1000s of crores'

I am a resident of Narela DDA. The main problem here are: 1) Connectivity (Nearest Metro station is jahangirpuri which is 20Km away from here) 2.) Employment issue: There is no employment opportunities here. Due to this residents need to travel to main delhi for job opportunities. Which is very time consuming & exhausting. I have to travel 100km daily. 3.) Safety & Security: As many slum people have been shifted by govt. To narela. The overall safety & security are very less here.

I actually like this new multistorey building format that DDA is using. No scope for illegal extension/expansion by the owners. Look at these Vasant Kunj societies, all crorepatis trying to cover every inch of land they can.

Area is good but the main narela DDA housing scheme is far from main narela and situated in completely dark and abandoned area no one wants to go because roads are not built street lights are not there parks are not there no shops if anyone wants something to buy they have to go to the main narela city and the flats are so tiny no connectivity is there of public transport now they are building roads there flats were built 7-8 years ago and roads are now building and till now no street lights are there how can you expect someone to live there in dark places like these only drunken people go there to drink because it's a best place for them

get out of your dreamland, Delhi is not a huge slum, just parts of it are less developed because Delhi is a very old city. This is the problem every old city in India is facing, new development is built upto the modern standards, but old settlements are facing difficulties in improving or upgrading their infrastructure even within the same cities.

This is just mindless planning. 3-D satellite terrain imagery could be used to identify low lying pockets, elevated areas and natural flow of water to decide upon where to build housings and roads (elevated areas), where to drain storm water and pumping stations (swamps and low lying pockets), where to build sewage treatment plants and how much the gradients of sweages would be at any particular location. Once that basic problem of waterlogging and sewage blocking could be addressed, better paving of roads, proper illumination with streetlighting, betterment of connectivity with launch of new bus services and metro routes won't be much of a headache. The authoritiies that built up this area without proper pragmatism or planning, are both unprifessional, incompetent and might even be corrupt. Their sheer magnitude of negligence points towards their corruption more than anything else; they might have received commission from the contract developers in exchange of rushing through for awarding tenders to them without due heed paid on design and planning required for core goal of the project that is sustenace of habitability for those seeking a livelihood there.
