You already have a version 1 Tube Driver! The square Tube Overdrive “badge” was placed OVER the words Tube Driver, likely as the result of an S&D letter from the other pedal company. This allowed them to use up existing stock without repainting the cases. So if you remove the foot switch, the badge should come off and you’ll have the original Tube Driver version. BOOM! The first pedal i ever modded on my own that was more than just swapping diodes, or adding a 9v adapter to a big muff was a delta lab metal overdrive. got it as a floor model on clearance for like $15 . Ive still got it but so much has been done im not sure if it still counts. now its more of a a self oscillating glitchy octave fuzz. And if you dime out all the knobs it kinda goes into ring mod territory. These gave me confidence to work on top mount electronics. Deffinatly cool as stock pedals, but also good practice to mod " modern " units, and they were sturdy enough to actually be used, unlike the other cheap pedals that are all plastic, and arent really worth the effort unless your going to rehouse them while your at it. Like i said, mine might be a far cry from its factory form, but its survived quite a bit of abuse; from the inside when i was tinkering with it, as well as being kicked, dropped, stood on , stepped on, dog/ humans peeing on and everything else that goes on as a member of a local band that plays dive bars.

Dude u sound like a wizard :O
@earlycuyler22953 жыл бұрын
@@boimesa8190 lol. Thanks... I guess... I mean... Dont thinkme some kind of pedal guru or anything. Im just guy that had a lot of time on his hands, a multimeter, and the ability to stick with a decision; even if its not a great one to begin with. There was a TON of trial and error, and id be lying if i said it ended up as something i was trying to accomplish. I really just wanted to mess around with the guts of a cheap pedal and see what i could make it do. There were even a few times i was sure that i bricked it, only to have reversed the polarity, or shorted power to the compression chip . One of the " mods" that adds the " glitching" effect( it sort of studders, goes " phase-y, loses a bit of volume and pins the gain oscillation to 11 when you hold the foot switch down) legitimately All started as me trying to fix a connection pin i snapped of the gain control and replaced with a staple and noticing the spike it caused bypassing... Idk. Something. And feeding back into the signal after the gain stage. i kinda know how it works after the fact, and i manipulated it a bit to get it to where it is. But it really just stated out as a Funky crackle with a bit of " wooosh" to it from the full sweep of the "tone circuit" chip. This was 100% just experimenting. I looked at it as a no risk, if it still works at the end of the day its a win situation. it was under $20 and was just a generic ocd distortion so at the absolute worst case scenario it would make an interesting paperweight. The whole project was really more experimental circuit bending than a pedal mod. Most of the parts used wete scrapped from the little dano pedals that id destroyed trying the same thing. Internally it looks like a 3 way cross between a rats nest, an ls swapped import tuner car, and a junk drawer of random bits of wire thst go from something to something else. I kinda want to do this with a delay pedal, just to see what happens, but ive got terrible luck with delays, you kinda have to know what your doing before you start, and i happen To like my delay pedals how they are. If i found a cheap delay that was just " meh" id go for it. But they tend to be eother great or awful, and i guess ive gotten lazy over the years.

Ill see if i can do a quick demo of the pedal this weekend( no promises, but i will try). I dont know if i really want to show the guts, or go over EVERYTHING ive done to it. No doubt, the Tube Driver TD-1 was capitalizing off the Chandler Tube Driver as Scott said. I suppose the OD-1 badge on the second edition was placed over the original TD-1 label to salvage Guitar Center's existing inventory that was already made. Awesome episode! Crazy how I just bought an old promo delta labs display/demo board on a pedestal....with 5 pedals and their mini effects processor...AND YES it has 2 different POWER SUPPLIES... the one you showed with the pedals and the seperate one for effects processor.... looked up the history before this episode ...which made the purchase extra cool.... and I got it all for $150.00.. the guy had it sitting in his basement for 10 years and quit playing...but bought it from his guitar instructor that worked at a Guitar Center . Again very cool episode. Thanks!

I was very very satisfied with the mistery solving at the end, just incredible. and seeing Josh revealing it and showing everything like a kid showing his christmass gifts just gave me life haha. This is my first comment ever on any of your videos. I watch the show regularly and I learned a lot about pedals from you all. Not only their function, construction and history, but I also learned to love them for what they are. Hopefully I can catch one of yours soon :) Keep the channel going, I have become a really big fan

The Delta Lab Chorus is still on my board to this day. I love it. You will never separate me from it. It sits next to a JHS Panther cub and they love each other.

I have a DeltaLab Effectron II rack mount delay that I bought used in 1988. It is wonderful--everything you would want in a vintage one-second digital delay. And it still works!

I am surprised you didn’t mention how it looks so much like the DOD Stereo Chorus! The colors and font are exact!

The square or badge around the button makes the graphic on the face of the pedal POP!!!

Love these pedals. Got three of em. Got my start using boss, delta labs, and ehx. The delay and chorus by deltaLab are fantastic!

And I have the one with the square too 😁

And the delay time maxed out, is a wonderfully comforting thing.

Use what works for you. I have thirty dollar second hand boss pedals sitting next to $500 boutique pedals on my board because I put what gets the job done on there regardless of brand or cost. . All the Instagram/KZbin guitarists that have boards full of strymons and boutique pedals who turn their noses up at anything that doesn’t cost at least $300 has sort of jumped the shark tbh.

@@softlightsymphonyband Totally! I love all my pedals and still find new great uses for them. I'm convinced you can make anything sound good to your own ears and chances are others will agree. My favorite pedal is still a ds1 with my custom secret knob settings, it can pretty much do anything 😏.

Nick does a great Motörhead-esque beat. I love it when you guys decide to drop the hammer down and just rawk!

That tone you were getting with that Rock Distortion was so wicked, I might need to get one.. It sure had an edge to it.
